I have an "Eagletone" Metal End (one of the very first batches of this pedal) I bought new for $33 bucks about 11 years ago. This was back before Biyang was known in the U.S. It's still my all time favorite distortion pedal (aside from my Landmine Distortion pedal). The Metal End is definitely the most versatile high gain distribution I've ever owned over the last 35 years. I'll have to get me one of those "King" versions with the upgraded German internal components.

yeah the germanium diodes offers a unique clipping in comparison to the silicon diode of the pro that i love also. Only have one though the king. Should have gotten both.🙂

I like the Pro more.

Metal End Pro is the silicon diode and sounds plexish. MeTaL End King is the germanium diode. i am would not sell these for quadruple the price they costed. They both have a great cut for the mix and work well together for different sounds.

they are identical by looks the king is an amoon board inside a biyang shell cheaper components and sounds more gain ish wich you can get those high gain sounds on the metal end just by changing the nobs whats kool about this pedal is the high gains and distortion together not just a metal pedal but but a grunge and hard rock pedal too had my metal end pedal for nearly 4 years now its built to last still like new one those dimond finds

Ya I picked it up for my pedalboard and to hear how it sounds with my 7 String guitar and Vintage 30's. I tested it out and got it dialed in for my setup... Sounds freaking amazing. Just wish I could post a pic in the comment section here on KZbin showing the settings I found to work best for 7 String Metal Tone. :(

Honestly, I think there are differences between any two manufactured pedals. I had two 5150 overdrives and there was a difference between the two. Not much, and if you didn't have two to compare to each other, you'd never know.
@danieljwillen19933 жыл бұрын
I myself have the king and love it. Try this for a good time. Typical amp on a Crunch/ dirty channel boosted with a pedal up front. You should know exactly what I'm talking about lol THEN, same settings with the amp sim on and the metal end king in the effects loop. Just try it ;)

This is purely a guess, but it's odd to have two products the same in same price slot. It's possible from what I have been learning about China recently (unrelated to this) that the lower priced one could possibly maybe be a stop gap made to China local specs. If it is it will break, turns out China export products have much higher quality control than what they sell locally. I realize that is a sentence no one would expect to see EVER, but it's generally true. I like both, would buy the slightly more expensive one despite being almost exactly the same

Great video and shoot out Robert. The King was definitely my favored of the 2. The King had more clarity and more presence which gave it the edge for me. Not saying that the Metal End sounded bad, it just didn't sound quite as good. Just like you said in the video, if you didn't have them to A/B you wouldn't ever really know the difference.
@mattjones85236 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with your astute observation and analysis of these pedals. There was just a night and day difference between the two.

kick ass video Robert! I've always said guts count and that's why I have lots of boutique pedals - but surprisingly sometime Biyang, TC or Donner comes out with a sleeper like these that are awesome. You can never have too many pedals anyway and just because something is inexpensive doesn't mean that it equals cheap or poor. I like the King better, but would happily shred either.

Nice shootout Robert~! These Biyang pedals are great-sounding products, especially the ones with this type of chrome metal casings. I have had their analog delay for 8+ years, awesome pedal. I would probably choose the ME Pro since I do like a warm/mellow sound. Cheers~!

I've been waiting in this video for a long time, and you've answered my questions. I love my Pro, but my settings are wildly different to yours. I use it as more of a Deftones early albums tone. But it is probably a worthy investment to get a King as well, so I can hear the difference myself! Thanks for steering me away from the hot pile of garbage that is the Metal Muff, and putting me onto these awesome pedals!
@michaelinglis85165 жыл бұрын
Fuck me, I've been trying to get that adrenaline tone forever. Most people hated his tobe but loved the album. I've got a 100watt marshall DSL100HR and an orange cab I even have one of Stephens sig 7 string ltd's but I can't get his early rythem tone just right. I normally don't have this much trouble but Stephens early tone has alluded me. I bought a metal end king today cause my 7 string needs more/different gain than what I'm getting with my DSL and a tube screamer. I just retubed and the amp is 100x better gain wise, with jj's it was muddy as hell. Always sounded good but it is even better now really us an incredible amp. Anyways glad I saw your comment.

How noisy are they? I'm thinking of replacing my current distortion with one of these but my current pedal has a built in noise gate that I've grown used to having, but I can do without it if this pedal isn't crazy noisy.
@RobertWJackson3 жыл бұрын
They’re high-gain distortion pedals, so they’re not going to be dead silent, but I would let some noise stop you from buying one of you like the tone. You can always fix that with a noise gate pedal.
@Ayyem933 жыл бұрын
@@RobertWJackson I know it's going to have some noise, I was asking if it's overbearing to the point where you'd NEED a gate. Guess I can keep my current one in the chain and either just use the gate or have a plethora of distortion sounds. Would it do "tight bass with punchy mids Rust In Peace" type tone well?

Depends on what kind of videos you’re doing, I suppose. I did a ton of research before I bought my Nikon, but there is all kinds of stuff out there across all different price points. I use a Nikon D3300 and a Panasonic LUMIX ZS40 for my secondary shots, and I’ve been happy with both for what I use them for. DO NOT get a cheap GoPro clone from China though. Those blow ass. LOL

Sorry bro, but the quality of your recorded sound is really bad. This pedal (and I have the king version by the way) into o JCM 900 should tear balls but here both sound like through a hundred years old radio. Please take it as a constructive criticism because I really like your videos and I will keep watching. Try maybe different way to record sound, different soundcard or software, because the quality is really crappy. Keep up the good work!!! Cheers from Slovakia.

No computers or a DAW involved in my recordings at all. Just mic’ed up straight into a Tascam 4-track recorder that syncs up with my camera. I do that to preserve what the gear actually sounds like in the room as opposed to doctoring it up in a DAW during post.

Your welcome to that opinion but it's not a debate which is *better* . The king version is made with better components that don't crap out after a year like the pro. But if you think the pro *sounded* better as I said before your welcome to think that.
