I think your ability to see beyond the initial mess is a great strength of yours. Offering the clear out service must incur a lot of extra cost but I'm sure it helps make sellers choose to sell to you rather than anyone else.

Maybe the people who lived there Knew the vents were disconnected and they were not getting air/heat and cut the holes where the "hot/cold" spots were? The rational answer would be to call an HVAC professional or handyman to come to fix it, but maybe they didn't know that was an option.
