This video is a review of Bob Jones (BJU Press) Distance Learning for 3rd grade. We are in our 8th year of homeschooling, but this is our second year with BJU and we are still in love with this curriculum for all 3 kids. Check it out!

Great video! I will have a 3rd grader this coming year and i wonder how much time this program takes per day as well as whether you feel like the bible is incorporated enough

A full day of curriculum takes a FULL DAY. It was honestly too much for my 3rd grader. It was too much for any 3rd grader in my opinion. We dropped some of the subjects by the end of the year. Bible was first to go. It seemed necessarily difficult. Regular church attendance and occasional family devotions are enough for us. While I loved BJU, feel free to decide what's most important (for us, Math) and not worry as much about some subjects. You could even do Science, History or Bible once a week instead of every day if it becomes overwhelming.

Thanks for this video! We will be using BJU DLO for the first time, I'm curious to know how much time your 3rd grader takes to complete the work for English, Reading, Bible and Spelling. I'm trying to plan our daily/weekly schedule :) Thanks! And also, did you student ever get tired of so much video lesson time? This is something I'm wondering.....for science, we are not using BJU but will be trying Science Shepherd's introductory science, which also has video lessons but short ones.

Each subject takes her anywhere between 15-30 minutes depending on how much she goofs off. :) We usually start around 9am and she is usually finished around 2pm. (including breaks and lunchtime) She loves the video lesson time, but if she ever got tired of it, she could totally take a break from them and I could go over the workbook lesson with her. Th ank you for watching and happy homeschooling!

@@wholetthekidsout1 Hi! Nice video review! Does the 15 to 30 minutes per subject already includes writing on the workbook? Or is that just for watching the videos?

Are the BookLinks required for distance learning? Or is more seat/busy work?
@wholetthekidsout1
@wholetthekidsout1 4 жыл бұрын
They are not required. The Reading lessons take a break from the textbook and you work on the booklinks instead. The books themselves are great reads. We choose to do the workbook if it looks interesting. Sometimes we skip the workbook/worksheet and just discuss the book.

What do you call the organizing system that you use? The one with the rainbow drawers?
@wholetthekidsout1
@wholetthekidsout1 4 жыл бұрын
It's our version of the workbox system. You can find many versions of this system. Some use portable file folders, some use folders hanging on the wall, etc. Happy Homeschooling!

@@wholetthekidsout1 Thank you! I just ordered the same system as you because it really clicked with me. Do you have a video dedicated to that system? I'd love to see exactly how you use it daily. I originally found it in your DITL.

Do you feel bju has a strong phonics/reading program? My daughter is currently doing TGATB level 1 but I want her reading to be more fluent. I am considering changing to abeka or bju in 2nd grade. I really love the sound of bju but I am more familiar with abeka. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Elizabeth, sorry for the delay. Yes, I feel BJU has a strong reading program. Not sure about the early phonics. I am familiar with Abeka, but our family prefers BJU. My 3rd grader became a "bookworm" this year thanks to BJU. She is now reading chapter books on her own. I am not familiar with TGATB, so I can't give you a review of their differences. BJU reading has interesting stories (my kids always want to keep their textbooks to read again later). Also, BJU booklinks are great unit studies. Excellent literature for all grades. Happy Homeschooling!

Bju's 1st grade Phonics and English is a strong phonics program. They go over more phonics in the reading programs and there is phonics review book you can buy.

Does the BJU Bible curriculum do Bible memory? Is it heavy? Is it KJV?
@wholetthekidsout1
@wholetthekidsout1 3 жыл бұрын
HI Charity, sorry for the delay. Yes, BJU does include memory verses. I wouldn't call it "heavy", it's just a component of learning the Bible. You could make it as much or as little of the subject you want. BJU does not use KJV. To be honest, I don't know what version they use. Happy Homeschooling!
