What is going on I was baffled at the bear in that location I didn’t even know they had any around there. Good to know ! Can’t wait for the road to open up ! Me and my family really miss driving to Apache down that road !

My father was hired in the early 1960s by the Arizona state highway department, and as a baby, we moved to Government Wells on Highway 88. Dad was a jackhammer driller and explosives man. Between the 1960s and 1967, he widened Highway 88, often hanging from ropes to drill holes and loading the explosive charges.

ADOT posted an update a week or two ago and most of the big boulders should be cleared now. But when I say cleared, they basically blew them up and scattered them along the road. Their only intention right now with opening the road is to make is passable for high clearance 4WD vehicles only. Their target opening is September. Cool encounter with the bear, I would never expect to see one in the desert.

Enjoyed the video and I appreciate seeing the progress that has been made on the road. Much improved indeed! The chance encounter with the bear was amazing. I have seen javalina often once past the bridge at the bottom, but never a bear!

Going eastward down, Fish Creek Hill, after the bridge, the road turns right. Up the road bank in the desert to the right or south was where the Stagecoach Hotel was. There's not much left of it, old nails, glass shards, etc.

Rode down to the Fish Creek bridge, about a month ago in my scooter, I was completely unaware of there being any bears in the area, thanks for the heads up,, nice video!

They need to do some blasting on the cliff ( uphill side ) to widen it. Or maybe that would exceed the budget. Enjoy your videos and hope to drive through there eventually!! Thank you...

Hey Rob, Thanks for the great comment..I hardly believe it myself! I've spent alot of time up in the Pinal mountains, it's a great place to beat the heat in the summer. I was camped up there the day the telegraph fire broke out in Superior. Got some great footage of the fire before it got too far up. Thanks again

Don't hold your breath waiting for the road to open this year. Plus we are heading into the stormy season. More rockslides and flooding can happen.

@@SaveAmerica1-pz2xg It looks like monsoon season is over. Things are going to dry out now. Tucson had a lot of storms. Not very much where I live. Maybe I will go out on the Apache Trail this fall. I have been down that hill many times. You just have to keep the car under control and be looking for people coming the other way.

The closest I’ve seen a bear to Apache lake area is up at Reavis ranch. So odd to see that little guy on fish creek hill. Never would I have believed it had you not got it on video. What are your thoughts on why he’s roaming around the desert like that?
@Colby1684 ай бұрын
Over the last few years the wildlife has returned. Once they open the road I’m sure they will find another place. It’s been very quiet and peaceful down there. I’m probably the only one a little sad they are opening the road back up.

It is a nice walk without the cars. I had a great time with great scenery while shooting these videos. It is a bit sad that cars will be back soon. I'll be out there again in the next 2 weeks to give an update..thanks for watching. Charley
