The problem isn't that she's bringing that up, the problem is that she's bringing it up in relation to him saying "Not all men have power!" Which is true when you take into account other issues like the class system, homosexuality, race, disabilities, several factors that do result in "men not having the power" That phrase is not related to any of those things, it's related directly to sexual assault and gender politics, which he probably wasn't talking about with that phrase (I know before and after he was trying to excuse misogyny but that one line stood out as not being directly related). It's weirdly inaccurate and ignores the somewhat valid yet unrelated point he was bringing up.

The Invisible Man tackled all of the same issues that this movie tackles but does an infinitely better job. It also handles it with much more subtlety, as while it never flat out says that Adrian raped Cecilia (nor does it even overtly mention rape or sexual assault), you get a sense that that is the case when she says that he would hit her "among other things". There's also the fact that she's easy to relate to and identify with, which you can't say for any of the characters in this movie. Most of all, it's actually scary; the scene where Adrian's breath appears behind Cecilia is far more terrifying than anything that happens in this movie. It's ironic, since there's so much insistince that stories like this need to be told by women and The Invisible Man was written and directed by a man.

I often wonder when was the exact point where studios or the writers decided characters in horror movies should be unlikable. 70s and early 80s you LOVED your main characters, Ash from evil dead, Riply from Alien, The Thing, Jaws, etc) you cared about the characters, and liked them. Something happend where characters became more and more unlikeable in horror, and now it's to the point where you mainly hate all characters in horror films. It extremely weird to me because, if you liked or cared about the characters, you would be scared more, you would be invested more, you CARE more. How is that not ridiculously obvious? And the modern horror movies that are successful creativity now. Such as, Get out, Babadook, oculus, they have characters we like and care about. I'm just so confused not only it happened, but that it keeps happening, and why? What was it that started this?

From what I've looked up, it was a big thing the 2000s, coming off of the Plantinum Dunes remakes, Rob Zombie's Halloween movies, Most torture porn movies, Final Destination etc. Where it was the case that the makers of those movies figured that the main stars of those movies were the killers, monsters and/or gore, and decided that their audiences would have a much better time tolerating the characters' demises if filmmakers make them the most despicable people ever, to the point where the audience would be actively routing for the killers/monsters/supernatural forces to kill them off in overtly ellaborate ways, horror movies for that period of time were less concerned with trying to scare people than they were with just wanting to show off their monster/gore effects.
@DuelaDent523 жыл бұрын
I’d say when the monsters became the stars more than the people, so you can watch the crazy and cool kills without feeling too bad. That’s kind of like how tokusatsu monster mashes became less about how horrifying the monster was and more who they’ll square up against next.

I am a woman and I want you to know that something you said in this video was very wrong and bothered me; Jaws didn’t open with a murder. It opened with a mauling. Animal attacks aren’t murder. As for the rest of your review, you were spot on. I clicked on it (HBO Max) thinking it was the Black Christmas movie I’d heard so much about and was so thrown by the bizarre trainwreck I was glued to that I checked the title twice.

I was waiting for the jumpscare and my dog barked and it scared the socks out of me, but then the jumpscare was fine.

I can’t believe this was in theaters, that speech at the end was hilarious.

This movie was made for an audience paying more attention to their phones while this plays in the background.

This is what happens when you have writers and directors putting ideology over everything else. Look at the last Ghostbusters movie. Another perfect example of ideology sucking all the life and entertainment value out of a film.

Amazing review! The way you break it into two separate reviews is genius. Please do a review of The Skulls starring Paul Walker and Joshua Jackson!
