@lolad60833 жыл бұрын
@Doppelganger D I used to feel that way then I realized the double standards. A white girl described it to me as if someone touches Afro hair in that way it’s like they are petting an animal. It’s most definitely an insult because subconsciously that person is viewing you as the equivalent to an animal and also not showing normal HUMAN boundaries. Black hair styling or hair isn’t even taught to receive a beautician/ hair stylist certifications. Other poc are not interested they look at it as gross, intimidating, etc. I’m glad you’ve put your rose coloured glass on for your experience but there are open dialogues on this subject.

@Doppelganger D I think it definitely is a compliment, mostly I think it's just curiosity and appreciation. I'm white with blond wavy hair down to my waist, people always touch my hair, generally they say something nice about it or just comment that it's really long. I always take it as a compliment. I've travelled in Asia a lot, and so many people would touch my hair, they'd point at it and talk to all their friends about it. They also find the little blonde hairs on my arms fascinating as they generally don't have much hair there. I've had my arms stroked many times, and had groups of women pointing at them and giggling to each other about it. I always find that really sweet. I'll admit that I am curious about black hair, though I would never personally touch a strangers. It is so beautiful and so different to mine, I just really haven't seen it much in real life, I live in an area that is 98% white.

Back in 2005, I was on active duty in the Marine Corps. We had a training exercise in South Korea. On my free time off I decided to get my hair braided. The salon on the Army Base was owned by South Koreans. I got micro-braids. It was AMAZING. Too bad I never took a picture or video taped it. Such wonderful memories.

Thank you. I've been telling people this for years. And yes, Marnie B, human hair is human hair and at it's core still requires the same treatment...clean healthy hair. Of course, different textures mean some differences in styling but the same principles apply. For years black people get told that only black people can do their hair, this video proves that's not so true.

This was not his first rodeo, I was wondering if he was the one who had already braided her hair because she had just taken her hair down, and he didn't look shocked or surprised by her hair length. A regular black stylist would have at least commented on her hair length or thickness if it was their first time seeing her hair, but this is a awesome video.

I don’t think they’re saying Koreans are greedy or anything disrespectful, I think they’re saying that they respect and recognize the buying power that the black community represents, which white-run salons tend to ignore (because it takes extra effort to learn how to handle all kinds of hair). Black consumers have traditionally been underserved/under targeted by mainstream companies.

@charlenegraham19234 жыл бұрын
What salons have you been to?!?! Have you ever been to a black salon? Black hair takes work--which is why black hair styles tend to last for many days (or weeks). His work looks good but black beauticians ("stylist" is too shallow) in America deal with black hair all day every day and (hopefully) most would not have cornrowed her hair this tightly (did you see how her skin was puckered along the edge above her ear?)! Maybe he doesn't realize black hair doesn't slip much so her hair will stay that tight until it grows out or FALLS OUT. Many black women who braid their hair constantly eventually end up with bald hairlines if they're not careful. Hair braided this tightly will hasten this eventuality.

Liana Love honey I’m white... I don’t know the difference... to me black Afro hair is African hair... either way this dude did an amazing job with her hair...

Liana Love it’s black hair, it may not be 4c but it’s dense and very textured. Black people originate from Africa, it’s African hair stop getting your panties in a twist 🙄🙄🙄

Sorry to say this, but I grew up getting my hair relaxed and roller set by Asians. Not one stateside stylist has ever come close to the job they did.

My mouth dropped when he let down your hair. Absolutely gorgeous. I’m so jealous. I hop you keep growing it out. It’s so beautiful.

Ok so I legitimately did not know people didn’t wash their hair like this until like two days ago. I’ve been blown away since I’ve asked my siblings how they wash their hair. The only time I’ve ever wash from scalp to end is if I’m washing color out.
@frederickox4 жыл бұрын
Carl John it’s not that I’m avoiding the ends. I focus on cleaning the scalp to remove dead skin and stuff. Shampoo strips the oils from your hair. Your hair is basically protein pushing out of your skin. It doesn’t produce oil on its own. The oil from your scalp runs down the shaft of the hair. So the hair and the ends typically receive no oils or other moisturizers (unless you put it there yourself). So unless the ends of your hair are extremely nasty (got food in it, for example) there is no reason so scrub with shampoo like you do the scalp. Conditioner, on the other hand, is the opposite. I don’t have a dry scalp so I avoid conditioners and oils above mid-shaft. That’s reserved for about neck length down.

Also, as someone with curly hair (3b/ 3a), I definitely do not wash my hair everyday. Curly hair tends to get dryer easily and my hair will break more. Therefore, I do it once a week (if that). Everyday I add water and some light afro hair products though, just to define and revitalise the curls.
