In response to your very first part of the video : I am a white Italian American woman with an absolute love and adoration for black literature, black authors, and all. Your stories are sophisticated, beautiful , vibrant , and more. I need to read them all! I have been reading a lot of black authors in the past few years and I just want more.

Not sure if you still engage with this post, I came across it down the KZbin rabbit hole searching for black KZbinrs that read. *New Subbie btw* I was taught to read around 5 years old from my sister with V.C.Andrews books. I found my own love of books in my early teens(13 or 14). I picked up a Keisha Ervin book and got a subscription to Triple Crown Publications and never looked back. I was all in, Unfortunately life happened and I stopped reading around 30. During that time, I did feel like authors like Deja’Joy’King, Ashley & Jaquavis, and K’wan began milking series ,urban & street lit started becoming redundant, and Amazon had started letting people release their books online Wattpad style which took away from my interest. Well, 8 years later I started reading again and there’s booktok and booktube fandom that has shadowbanned the black community in both areas. So now we are flooded with indie fantasy, smutty romance,rom-coms and great authors have been pushed to the back. Not saying those shouldn’t be read but it’s disheartening to see Authors like Noire, Zane, Keisha Ervin, Tracy Brown, E.Lynn Harris , Mary Monroe, Diane McKinney Whetstone not being brought up in romance and erotic fiction recs, especially by our black community. We are looked at as “struggle” tropes (ugh.. I hate that word already 😒)People are missing out on some great reads. Keisha Ervin alone has so many beautiful romance novels that will leave you hugging your book and smiling. I have to look in thrift stores to find good historical fiction and literature.Whew… I wrote a lot. I’m so sorry, it’s hard to communicate through social media for me. Thank you for everything you do. ❤

I LOVE this video. I am an avid reader, but I'm mostly in the romance space with some suspense/thriller thrown in for fun. Like you, I ready some Eric Jerome Dickey and E. Lynn Harris because that's what was on the book shelves when I was younger. I delved into some Zane and Street-Lit in high school because who didn't? Because life can be stressful enough, I generally like a book where they may be a lot going on, but in the end it's a happily ever after. I need to branch out and having these recommendations will definitely help when I'm on a reading drough.

Wow, young lady you rock! First time on your channel and I was so very shocked to hear you mention E. Lynn Harris R.I.P you got a lil ole soul in you 😂, There is not many Black Book Channels on here, the ones I’ve watched are mostly into fantasy and older than you but do not mention some legendary black authors like Toni Morrison, E. Lynn Harris, Terri Woods, Eric Jerome Dickey, Sistah Souljah there are so many that paved the way and probably should have been mentioned but everyone has there preference 🙊… and thank you for your Black Literature Video! Subscribed young lady, you rock! Okaaaaaay!!! 💯📚✊🏽

I appreciate you talking about books that people are not usually discussing. And I absolutely loved A Piece Of Cake! I read it years ago and I still recommend it. It was unforgettable to me.

Excellent suggestions! I’m an avid reader and that’s something that my daughter never picked up. I tricked her into reading by allowing her to read Fly Girl and The Coldest Winter Ever because I knew the story line would keep her interested. We took a summer to read Sula by Toni Morrison and she memorized a Maya Angelou poem. She is a senior in college now, but I just had her laughing bcuz she was just never this interested in books like I wanted her to be🤣😂 Still a very intelligent young lady just like you seem to be❤️

First time here. Love the idea of this as a series. Also you mentioned Toni Morrison. I have to ask you to add Exposing Lesser Demons by K. N. Robertson. NO ONE is talking about it.

Thanks for these recommendations! You put some new-to-me authors on my radar (plus reminded me of a few great titles that were previously recommended by others). It’s great when you suggest an author’s whole body of work, because I can check to see what my local library has on its shelves. I’m sure I’ll be re-watching this video throughout the year to keep my “to be read” book pile high!
