As a Chinese, I am surprised that all foreigners praise this game from a story and graphics perspective. So hypocritical. Is it literature or art? Is there anything that stands out about the gameplay of this game? Task? map? Career choice? Weapon choice? Skill build? BM Wukong is made with love. People don’t understand, JTTW is embedded in the childhood of all the devs and Monkey King is their “Superman” growing up. They’re devoted to make the best game to not only represent their own Chinese culture, but most importantly to fulfill their own childhood dreams. I am portuguese, but I grew up in Brazil... I remember how I dodged this bullet, right when I was about to start college, it became widespread how brazilian journalists no longer needed a degree to exercise the profession, lol imagine that, the profession is so demoralized and scrapped, they just accept any jondoe who have minimum communication skills. You don't need to study about ethics, credibility, impartiality, fact checking, etc.. none of those things. And when I came back to Portugal a couple of years later, guess what, journalists don't need a degree here either. I'm a feminist as in the actual definition not the crazy way some people weopanized it. I am for equality. With that said I never paid attention to any of the articles about Black Myth Wukong because when I saw the first trailer I knew that was a game I would like to play. I have watched several movies about Wukong and have always enjoyed him as a character and was super excited for this game. The original trailer looked amazing with wonderful graphics and I knew it would be a game I wanted to play. The people who review this game and talk about the lack of diversity or the lack of female characters never made it far into the game. Chapter 4 is basically all female characters, even the secret area is female characters. I play games because I like some element about them, it might be the story, the characters, the graphics, or some game mechanic. What doesn't factor into me picking a game is how woke the game is. I am all for games being diverse but at the same time just let a story be a story. If it isn't actually racist or sexist or whatever then it doesn't matter. These are the same people that said Resident Evil 4/5 were racist because you are shooting people from the actual country you are playing in. People who review games should leave their political views out of it and review the game on the actual content and not their bs. It is what being unbiased is.

I am a Thai-Japanese and i grew in Nara and Bangkok. And i just wanna say that the translation from one language to another can be confused and make no sense. Let's say in Japanese, you wanna ask someone "Do you want to eat ?" or "Have you eaten ?" You only say this "食べる?" If you're translate this to English, it just mean "Eat?" Yeah, that's it. That's literally it. It doesn't make any sense in English. Another example is the past tense of a word "食べる?" and that is 食べた。In a literal translation, it mean "Ate." or "I ate." Ate what ? That doesn't make any sense in English at all. But what it mean is "I already ate." Same goes for Thai language as well. Let's say you want someone to calm down, you say "ใจเย็นๆ" But when this word translate it to English, it mean "Cool heart." It doesn't make any sense in English. It's so wonderful to see, as the rest of us super appreciate seeing such a wonderful telling of the Monkey King put into a game. He's always been a loved and respected figure around the world through so many forms of story telling. It's also been really fun for us internationally to see Chinese people play it and express and educate us more deeply at what is being shown. It's actually motivated me personally, to read the story again so I have a more clear understanding, now that I'm older and will understand it better. 😂❤😊 Things such as this are also why I'm looking forward to Mecha Break and so many gamers internationally really appreciated the company's slogan because games are games. (Also a Chinese company) They are meant to be an enjoyable and fun experience that takes one out of reality and into a world they get to experience. So yeah both those games blew up at the same time. Proving that the wanted enjoyment of both multi-player and Solo games are completely healthy and that it's Western development in the wrong.

The reason Concord is failing isn't because of "DEI", it's because it's a horrible and ugly game. Games with _genuine_ diversity attract a lot of players of all kinds. Hell, BG3 is one of the most inclusive games of all time and it broke so many records. The diversity and representation helped, but ultimately it came down to just being an incredibly well-made game, with lots of love. Concord is a horrible ugly game largely because of DEI. It certainly has next to nothing to do with BG3's success. These 'journalists' don't realize that Black Myth Wukong literally released at the perfect time to gain all the hype in the world. Millions of people were just introduced into souls-like genre through Elden Ring and were starting to finish the DLC and looking for their next souls-like fix. Wukong jumped in to swipe all of these new players up (and existing souls-like players) right as they were about to go play FromSoftware's back catalogue. And it's a good entry into the genre, it deserves the success.

I really appreciate of what you did here. I'm not a gamer, but I grew up with the story and characters of Journey to the West. So this game feels really close to heart. I've watched a lot of players' gameplay videos and have a lot of fun from it, and really, not as what the journalist was claiming in her article. And you are very right, she could have spent a lot more time and energy of hers doing something even more meaningful than writting that article. Or, she could have just finished the game first before writing anything. Also, the developers have adapted and interpreted every little detail and character extremely well based on the original story. Game of the year. It's a character action game, not a slow paced relaxing deck builder open world RPG walking sim. Best graphics, even better than Hellblade 2. There is side content, the secret bosses, yes, more bosses. That's the fun, the combat, learning all the moves, just like DMC or MGR:R. Yes! The meditation mechanics were awesome. It tricked my adhd-gamer brain to just take a much needed quick pause and evaluate my next steps. Even on low settings, the landscape was still very beautiful (I play on Steamdeck). And there's so much content to love. I especially love the music videos. I can't wait to finish chapter 4 and see more. The stories in the journal also captivated the heck out of me. We don't get to know the yaoguai's through descriptions/attributes but through folk tales/stories.

Bro they HATE this game, whereas I'm 50 hours in and in love. The combat is fluid and enjoyable, the boss fights are amazingly designed and all feel fair (yes, even yellow rat sage. only took me 4 tries). Hell, they even do dual boss fights WAY better than fromsoftware ever has!!! I believe its non-void that has two flaming pinwheels that attack you, but only ONE after the OTHER? Or the Misty Cloudy/Cloudy Mist boss fight. They take turns, they're never really there at the same time, or if they are its brief moveset that can be dodged!!! This game has, in my opinion, shown how the ARPG genre doesn't have to squeeze the player out with every possible way to make us suffer. We don't lose our experience here, and yet I still feel a level of diffuclty and "oh shit" when i'm walking around the world. I still get frustrated dying, just like I do in dark souls and elden ring. But there's no XP runback, no sense of true loss and yet i STILL love it! And you know what, when elden ring came out and ppl said they wanted to go back to DS3 style of level design I thought that a hallway boss rush would be boring. But this game shows that wrong!!! All six chapters have such depth to them: you can either focus on the main story bosses, or explore and find 2-3x the bosses in EVERY area!!! I love this game, it's in my forever games now

This is my first time playing a game like this. I didn't understand how to "level up" until I realized you can rest and it resets everything. It's a game of skill, progression, and patience. I'm conditioned to the grind from all the other games I play so once I figured that out it starts to make more sense. Chapter 1 is just the introduction to what's to come and if you give up there, you're missing out on a whole lot of other content. You're a monkey on a mission. You as the player and the monkey are both learning as you go so it's not just boss fights, it's difficult challenges along the way.

There is a damn good reason I value small time youtubers discussions on games over any 'real' jounalist. Like Girlfriend Review is a highly respectable if very sparse uploading channel. I did the same.. until I wised up this is not a linear game and took the left path instead from the save spot and killed the much easier fire wolf and getting the spell of transformation which made wander wight actually doable.😂

I don't get all the back and forth about this game? I'm 56 and only took up gaming last year to relax. I platinum SIFU after 200 hours and enjoyed the challenges. Now I'm tackling Wu Kong and so far I'm loving the challenge. I don't understand these people that have such harsh criticism about games. One thing I don’t see people talk about is that Game Science was a studio with 30 or less developers for the longest of times. They broke 100 employees i think in 2022 and today 140 employees. It’s crazy that this game was made by 130 people. Meanwhile many larger western studios have several hundreds to thousands of employees. First Larian and now Game Science showing how small teams can make truly great games.

The point most journalist seem to forget is that games are mostly there to escape the kinda shiddy world around you. Just like movies, themeparks, ect. And still they try to force current real life discussions into games. And we players and players with "voices" like you dont handle all this perfectly either. We tend to talk alot around the problem. We should just point out the obvious and let the discussion dry out. For BM:W as an example: "You beat beasts and creatures with a magic stick, theres no need for diversity." End of discussion. The chapter 3 in this game is a perfect metaphor of this situation in a Buddhism way. It's a pity that the story of the last three chapters of the game did not maintain the level of the first three chapters. The English version does not have such a big gap, because too much content was lost in the translation of the first three chapters.

I love the souls-like feel without it actually being a souls-like. I love that you don't have that fear of losing a ton of progress to a death. This kind of reporting grinds my gears.
