I am from the UK I have always been interested in Journey To The West, I saw the TV show as a child. It's so cool to get more detailed information on the story. I found out that Sun Goku from Dragon Ball was inspired by Sun Wukong.
@SuhandiWijaya2 ай бұрын
Akira Toriyama didn't even hide it. Songoku is literal Japanese pronounciation of Sunwukong. You can use google translate between Japanese to Chinese and punch in Sunwukong's Chinese character in Chinese and it will result in Songoku is Japanese. And vise versa.
@mountain.spider2 ай бұрын
Oh yeah, no doubt like the other guy said he never even hid it. Chi Chi, Gokus wife in DB herself is the game as a fox spirit, and they even recreate the story where they need a fan to blow out the fire from the mountain and her father is even there the ox/bull king which also appeared in Dragon Ball. Of course Dragon Ball was based off journey to the West, but there's a lot of reoccurring characters. The transforming pig oolong is in the game too because he was based off that. The one of the game is the original he has the same traits and can transform into anything, but his original form is a pig. You'll see a lot of his character from the Dragon Ball in this one because they were based off each other. Including how he loves the trash, talk, is helpful and supportive, but wek will when it comes to women. The original is more of a fighter versus the Dragon Ball Oolong version. He was cowardly and only jumped in the very last moment to either distract somebody or try to help even if it was a losing battle.
Your knowledge of buddism and Journey to the west story, I feel is beyond that of an average Chinese person. Thank you! I have learned many new things from these videos, and it even increases my interest in the game, and in buddism in general 🌊
@chekim22 ай бұрын
To say "beyond that of an average Chinese person" is huge understatement, the video author/script writer's knowledge of mythology and her ability to choose the right English words to articulate the details is to a level of outerspace, or above the 4th level of heaven to stay within the theme. :-) :-) I have not heard anyone on KZbin explaining this stuff so succintly as here, and I'm not trying to be superlative at all.

Just a quick note on Buddhism and every sentient being being a Buddha, that's specific to Chinese (or, more specifically 'Mahayana') Buddhism. In the OG Buddhism, 'Theravada', there was one Buddha who attained enlightenment, and he's seen as a role-model for people to follow. Also, Bodhisattvas are also specific to Mahayana Buddhism. There are three major schools of Buddhism: Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayana - respectively "Lesser Vehicle", "Greater Vehicle" and "Thunderbolt Vehicle". There are then multiple schools within those three, for example, Zen Buddhism (called Chan in China, and Son in Korea) is a form of Mahayana Buddhism. (Finally, I can use my comparative-religion degree!) Loving this series, listening to it as I play the game 🙂

Yep Nirvana in Fire for an awesome revenge tale with slowly unfolding intrigue and slowly ratcheting tension, Joy of Life for a fun 'hero's journey' type tale. Both great. I also loved Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty (1 and 2) - it's just this really cool stylised 'once upon a time...' set of stories. There are all kinds of genres in c-drama world. If you post what you're interested in, no doubt people will give some good recommendations. There are also good releases that aren't exactly your classic c-drama, like the sci-fi 3-Body Problem (the Mandarin version!) and recent movie Investiture of the Gods (both recommendations of AvenueX I believe).

And I could be wrong (correct me if it's not the case) but i believe even the oldest mosque In China named Huaisheng of Guangzhou built during the Tang Dynasty (619-907) over 1,300 years ago by Sa'd Ibn Abi Waqas (a real life companion of the prophet of Islam) is also scanned and put in the game. Honestly if you would've told me before playing Wukong, or any big budget game in 2024, would have short animated cutscenes instead of full in engine cutscenes (even as a huge anime fan) I would've been disappointed. And ESPECIALLY after seeing that AMAZING opening scene, I would've wanted a lot more of that(I still do though). But man, even though I already LOVE this game Soo much, those animated scenes blew me away!! Soo unbelievably good! The scene with the boar guy, and his backstory, actually got me emotionally, in a SHORT cutscene!! I can't remember the last time, even in Great games like God of War, where a game hit me with real emotions outside of just , this is fun and badass or whatever. That Chapter 3 end one was Sooo good too, Soo deep. And then, chapter 4, was INCREDIBLE. The scene before was very good and more impactful than 99% of games(and basically 100% for me). But the animated short was incredible... Although honestly I don't quite understand what happened, or the timeline of it because the age kept shifting and I wasn't sure if that happened at the beginning of the game in what we saw, or something else. But regardless, incredible, 10/10 game for me. I am definitely disappointed with performance at times, but it's so good, that it blows any downside out. And it's definitely the GOTY for me.

Maybe not as famous as Sun Wukong, but as you point out he's beloved and respected. And showing the traditional Chinese gods persecuting Sun Wukong *after* he's become a Buddha and made such huge contribution by bringing the scriptures to China is such a bad look for them.
