Your descriptions and perceptions are always so spot on target, I love it! :) I have come to realize after a couple of reactions to him that your favorite Black Sabbath singer is the great and hugely underrated Tony Martin, which I totally get! :) The part that you couldn't understand what he was saying is that he was introducing the great bass player, Geezer Butler, so was was saying his name. :) This is another one of many great Tony Iommi classic riffs and songs, with a classic Iommi great solo, of course. The song is about reinventing yourself and not being chained to the person past and it's lies growing up have made you into. Apologies for typing this on my cell phone. So this is actually from a very interesting time in Black Sabbath history. In very early 1990s, Black Sabbath (Guitarist Tony Iommi) let Tony Martin and Neil Murray go. Founding member, bassist Geezer Butler returned and they reunited with singer Ronnie James Dio. Tony, Geezer and Dio had released 2 amazing records in early 1980s. So, the trio reunited and were asked to prepare a song for the then forthcoming Wayne's World movie. Time Machine is the song they prepared and that's featured in the movie. Shortly after the movie was released, the trio along with drummer Vinnie Appice released the Black Sabbath record Dehuminizer straight as crunge took over the music world. Without getting into too many details involving Ozzy and Sharon and a retirement tour in 1992, Ronnie ended up leaving Black Sabbath for a second time in 1992. Somehow in 1994, Black Sabbath released their Cross Purposes record marking the return of Tony Martin on vocals. Even more amazing, they recorded and released Cross Purposes Live concert footage which is what you are watching. Why in the world of all the available songs.frpm Cross Purposes and the Sabbath backlog did they choose to perform Time Machine from the I'll fated Ronnie Dio reunion which cost Tony Martin his job initially, I honestly can't say. The conspiracy theorist will say Time Machine was selected as the Cross Purposes set list opener because it featured al short bass solo and that GeeZer and his manager/wife insisted that Geezer be introduced first very early on. Hence yhr bit around the 4 minute mark of your video where Tony screams GeeZer Butler. There's so much more to discuss but just nite that on the Dehuminizer record, there's actually 2 versions of Time Machine. The initial version used on the Wayne's World soundtrack and the final studio version for Dehuminizer. The WW version is 'grittier' with tlonly tiny lyrically differences. The WW is sometimes referred to as a Demo version that WW people just ended up using in the movie and on their soundtrack.

Nice one Randi. Another Sabbath song I'm not familiar with. Tony Martin can sound like Dio at times, in fact, I had to look hard and see that indeed it was Tony and not Ronnie. Now using a magnifying glass to see what I'm up to, and to see who I was hearing. Even though this is a post Dio Sabbath song. Silly me. On a Sabbath theme, Ozzy's days are running out quickly. Gonna be a sad day for rock 'n' roll when we lose him. While not even close to a perfect man, he's still loved by many, me included. This was the April 13, 1994 show. This song is a Dio era song, but despite having a throat infection through much of the Cross Purposes tour, Tony Martin did a great job - just not up to what he did back in his first stint with Sabbath.
