Torque converter gear swap / 12 tooth versus 15 / Juggernaut
Installed a 15 tooth Driven gear on the Baja racer / Doodlebug minibike to see if we could get any more top speed out of the combo. The engine is a 212 Tillotson E with a mod 3 cam, billet rod, VM22 Mikuni carb, and a header pipe.

Does the torque converter work like a variator on a scooter we're two halves open and close and change ratios of acceleration or just a certain amount of gear reduction off of the crankshaft

Try a 60t on the rear, if you get a chance. I have that and a 12t on the driven. I'm working on driven springs at the moment.

What's better for you, red or green? I just got a juggernaut driver but haven't installed it yet. Have a feeling any tuning on the driver will have more effect than the driven. Let us know what you find! Edit: I've got a 12t driven and a 62 split sprocket on rear right now. Went 59 in the 1/8. Keeps going faster and quicker with every 2t drop on the rear split sprocket. I've got at least 4 more sprockets to try until it slows down. Then go back up to it's sweet spot.

With the Juggernaut gearing there's no need for a 7" driven. The 7" driven works well with the stock driver. Better low end and no OD.

Ok, I get the idea here- but I’m looking to go in the opposite direction. I put a 224 Predator on my mini, 30 series torque converter, it has a 10 tooth sprocket up front and I put a 72 tooth on the wheel. Top speed was an unexpected 41mph on 21” tires. I wanna put an 8 tooth up front, I know it’ll knock down my top speed (not looking for speed with this build, I want max torque) what kind of gear ratio would I have here?
@Black66
@Black66 8 ай бұрын
Check out this gear ratio calculator. You plug in the sprocket sizes and the tire height and it will spit out a speed depending on the RPM. www.gokartsupply.com/ratios.htm

I run a wheel adapter and split sprockets. Smallest split sprocket I've found is a 54. With a 15t front sprocket, rears in the range of 60-66 gives a great range for tuning. I do agree that a 50t rear would be a nice option. The smaller the rear sprocket, the lighter it is, even if it's just a tiny bit. The sprocket on the rear is rotating weight which is even more important to reduce if possible.

I’ve been trying to find a type c 15 tooth sprocket for #40 chain but the highest I find in 5/8 bore is 12 tooth I’m running a 10tooth at the moment with a 40 tooth rear and it does pretty good but I’d like a 15 tooth front sprocket. Just rambling here lol
