Sure, but you still get the option to shoot narrative on S5ii/x, to me it’s a win, win, win. Bmpcc6k has no optional ibis and autofocus. Braw IQ looks basically the same, the small difference subjectively is the OLPF.

@@roscosart1888 most high-end cinema camera (like ARRI) has OLPF and personally, this is critical for me. The moment you see these weird aliasing and how it could ruin a shot, you'll want a sensor with OLFP. Regarding IBIS, to each his own I guess. I don't mind not having IBIS with the type of work I'm doing (mostly documentary). I don't take the chance to get some warping effect on my shot. Finally, for autofocus, it all depends on the content you are shooting. I prefer shooting with manual lenses and if I ever need autofocus, I can always install a PDMovie Air Smart to get autofocus with my vintage lenses. Best of both world! In the end, the right camera for you is the one that will do the best job for the content you're creating either it's wedding, corporate videos or narrative.

Gyrodata neutralises IBIS (i.e. they are both good features, but gyroflow stabilisation is even better than IBIS though it adds another step to post-production).@@roscosart1888 All camera manufacturers should be recording gyrodata at this point.

This is exactly what I thought you would find. Thanks for the days of work it took to make this. BM should have used a newer sensor with a faster readout and I would have bought one instantly. When the Blackmagic first came out I was torn. It would have been an instant buy if it hadn't been so heavy. I thought it would make a nice studio camera, but then I'm primarily a photographer and usually carry already another camera, so it didn't make sense to spend that much on a camera that's too heavy and isn't all that great for stills. I left it for a while to let it stir a bit in my head, and in the end I decided that the S5 IIx makes more sense for me for all the added photography features and for the IBIS, especially since I don't always need the raw workflow. I can get the video assist further down the line when I really need it. Frankly, what really sold me was the image stabilisation and the photo features. Getting GoPro style stabilisation on a camera with interchangeable lenses is kinda crazy and exactly what I needed in my workflow. Thank you for all the informative image quality comparisons. I don't need raw all the time, but I'll definitely be investing in a video assist further down the line for studio use.

Said it once and I'll say it again. Best channel at the moment for L mount content. Just sold my g1 bmpcc6k and went with the S5iix and 7inch BMVA with a sigma 24-70. Already have the full resolve but have to say gonna miss that rolling shutter fix. Upside of low light, Autofocus, ergonomics, Batteries and options for photography weighs too much towards Panasonic for me but you summed it up perfectly and my main thing was get value for what I have now and move to L mount ASAP. Would've been interesting to hear altogether how much space the three files took up compared. Went with two 256gb sandisk sd's as the main thing I wanted to get away from with blackmagic were wires and externally mounted bits.

Lovely job as always. Not sure why AF isnt in play here in this comparison. Be good to think through a work scenario. Real world set up what would you use and how. Gimbal? Push in on a dolly or slider (AF or trust your focus marks) IV, sports, live speaker event on stage (af?) wedding? Walking down the isle?? (AF?). Any live work where focus is critical. Self filming? Dance video?? In reality i would imagine people are likely to notice something being out of focus and are never really likely to be able to notice image quality at this level. How many times do you need AF? Even the limited AF on the Komodo is incredibly useful. And in the world of client work variable auto exposure as on the the fx6 with variable nd is often a non negotiable. No doubt the bm has a great image but does that make it a great camera. This all makes sense if there is a lidar solution but is there? Thx again.

With the Lumix S5 series, the party ends when a soundguy asks: can I sync the timecode? For a single person run and gun its ok, but when even in a small crew and someone else is responsible for the edit, they are not happy to start syncing the footage by audio. And the producer is not happy, because the editor starts to complain, that they need more time for preping the timeline.

My analogy with cameras has always been, there are Jeeps and there are Ferraris. A Ferrari is fast and nimble and can quickly get you down the freeway but it is awful for getting up an off-road mountain. A Jeep won't get you as quickly down the freeway, but with the proper tires and setup, you can get it up a mountain. Same with cameras, the S5II/S5IIX is great for the quick run and gun stuff, but the BMCC6K is better for production quality projects due to its colours. Right tool for the right job.

I like your comparison, but to be fair, if you want/need autofocus or better focus on BMCC 6K, you have to invest in the cage, rails, follow focus, and maybe some lidar option. And if you want to take decent photos also, you should invest in another photographic body and accessories. Panasonic can take 96 MPix images, which is really handy while product shooting at the studio. So, it is great to have these tools in the L-mount system, which I am getting to like more and more. Having both of these cameras in pairs is a good solution. :)

very informative comparison , perhaps the low light capability on the s5iix is the reason why the images differ. sure the black magic looks nicer when lighting is ample but in terms of value proposition you would have to include the extra lighting needed (and additional costs for a grip..). so for traditional "cinematic" shooting the black magic will give more pleasing results , but for any other kind of shooting the Lumix win imo.

Great video thanks for comparing. I’ve found matching the s5iix and 6K pro very easy, when using the right LUTS on both, seems like where we are at with most cameras these days but I agree with you the highlight roll off is a little better on the Blackmagic cameras though a touch less sharp. But it’s a tricky trade off - each is better at different things- keeping PDAF, the better low light, IBIS, different horses different courses kind of thing

Could the slight differences in sharpness when shooting Braw be due to the optical low pass filter on the BCC6K? Edges have a lot of high-frequency content. @CanditoTrainingHQ Жыл бұрын
I use it on the S5ii and you're right in that it helps a lot. But man, you have to tweak it a LOT, and even when you do, recording in other modes you can see how green the tint is on VLOG compared to it. For example, with tint and white balance corrected, HLG + color transformation looks much nicer than VLOG + color space transform. The issue is color seperation just never looks right on vlog. So even with the strongest correction, I suspect it'd mute some of the opposing colors.

@@OBP_ For sure. Then I guess maybe the FX3 becomes a contender post The Creator hype. BTW I'm not sure if you are applying any film emulations normally on S5ii work or maybe use a low con filter but certainly that old black promist trick used to level up most panasonic 10 bit footage to bm raw look. Out of the box comparisons might not be as real world as you might otherwise use so would be interested to know if you use film nitrate or dehancer or any of the other filter emulations and maybe see what can be achieved with a little bit of post. Keep the good work up. Always a pleasure.

6k higlights looks blue (s5ii has better white balance)

For someone who regularly shoots in low light I’ll stick with the S5ii

For sure. 👌

S5 is better overal. Autofocus and ibis makes it much more usuable for most people and image quality is just as good.

For cinema, nothing beats the way the Blackmagic shoots. For running and gunning, photo etc the S. Oh yes and maybe most importantly if we put money into perspective, it's the Blackmagic alone, let alone you easily find them used for close to nothing.

The green tint and banding in shadows on the S5II is honestly a dealbreaker to me and unlike with the S1H (ghosting, blue and yellow gamut clipping) I don't hear much from Panasonic this time, and there's also the oversharpening and too much NR issue using regular Rec709 profiles. You may want to submit your comparison to an ambassador at Panasonic (such as Sean Robinson or Nick Driftwood) who may be able to forward the issues to engineers at Panasonic. Have to shoot everything, literally everything in external BRAW to avoid it. Thankfully colors can be graded to a less magenta tone easily and the image looks great afterwards. :)

BM phoned it in on this one.

Thanks for doing all these tests. I think I will go for the blackmagic.

Lol of course s5 costs 3500 with monitor and stuff , as much as s3 but you need monitor and co for the sony as well

Great video and I really appreciate the downloadable content! I own the Ursa 12k, Bmcc6k, and s5ii and I've been wanting to compare them because I am on the fence about returning my Bmcc6k. Don't get me wrong, I love it! But I have been questioning if I truly need the 6k.... A few things I've noticed from your clips- 1. I was really surprised by how similar the cameras are in BRAW. Depending on the shot, it can be hard to tell the difference. 2. The 6k seems to have been DR in the shadows to me ( and maybe some in the highlights too ) but in the window shot I can see your face a lot better on the 6k. This was after I've adjust the exposure of the s5ii's clip to match the 6k. 3. Color, like you mentioned, the 6k does seem to have the nicest color straight out of camera. 4. Highlight rolloff, the 6k is smoother for sure. All this to say, I agree that the 6k has a better image but the question is, is it worth it to lose all the features of the s5ii? I'd argue for most people it's not since the s5ii can shoot photo, has pretty good AF, dual card slots, a better dual iso, and better anamorphic desqueeze ratios. However, the 6k DOES have full frame 6k 60p in 2:4:1 which is a big deal for me because I shoot weddings and NEED that 60p lol I feel like the Bmcc6k image is around 20% better at most though and most people probably would never notice outside of a direct comparison. Also, for anyone interested. From my own testing, the Ursa 12k is still better than the Bmcc6k. It's has more DR, nicer colors, and the highlight rolloff better too. I put that out there because I was temped to sell my 12k when I heard about the Bmcc6k because the keynote footage looked so nice. Thanks again for the video!

Amazing insight here. I totally agree with you, it's very complicated and very based on what you are shooting. I am on the search for a 12K with OLPF to compare with the BMCC 6K. Am really interested to see them side by side.

Oyyy so I just got the S5iix and I know the two are close... but the highlight rolloff on this c6k I can't deny. For creating a world on the screen that makes a diff in the immersion so yeah now I'm a bit torn especially with the price point being overlapped. Thank you for the vid.@@OBP_
