Something I really wanted you to know. I am not sure if you even care but I want you to know that cooking in aluminum isn't good for you and you should avoid doing it frequently like making tomato sauce in the aluminum foil cup you make by shaping it around the canteen cup studies show it leeches into your food and can lead to stuff like Alzheimer's and who knows what else probably best to stick with steel or titanium if you can help it.

Hi Blackie. We have similar microwave ready rice here in England but ours comes in pouches which are easier to stow in a pack. I’ve been using fish with rice for a few years now and a favourite of mine is smoked kippers (vacuum packed) fried in a little butter and placed on the pre-heated rice. This works well with a Trangia 27 as the fish needs a frying pan. Thanks for another great video and greetings from Norfolk, England. Regards Broadlander 🇺🇸 🏴

I eat this type stuff often (except that i have only had the precooked bags of flavored rice or i have my own home cooked 'leftover' rice). There are so many flavors of rice and pastas, so many different types and flavors of meats, and canned vegetables are great to mix in too. Canned tomatoes okra and onions, mixed with a bag af precooked Spanish rice, and topped with a can of lemon pepper flavor tuna in olive oil is a damn good meal. It's always good to have some shelf stable foods. I've always ended up eating the tuna before I have tried this; but, I've got the idea in my mind... I've seen a video of a man puncture and insert a wick into the top of a can of tuna in oil; he boiled water and heated noodles from the tuna oil fuel, then added in the also warm tuna meat.🤯

You can even kind of toast the tortilla on that Tranio or a different alcohol stove and getting it just a little bit crispy. It really makes the tortilla pop a little bit and you know maybe putting a slice of cheese on it too or something I’ve been doing a lot of the canteen cup, partly and due to, getting inspiration from your videos I really really like your cooking videos. I think I really enjoy it and thank you for sharing the stuff you’ve learned over the years and in a thoughtful way that you do. I appreciate it, buddy.

I am really enjoying this series of canteen cup cooking! When this video started and fish was mentioned my thoughts went to fishing in the north country and the predators there. It would be great to see you talk about this style cooking and camp safety and some of the problems involved taking the predators into account. Are the containers smell proof? Are you inviting a predator to lunch or dinner? I am learning new ideas from your cooking series. I guess I was stuck in a very limited choice meals mind set. Thank You for this series!

Substitute "meat" (yes, fish is not meat, but close enough, so is cheese often enough). Add a piece of fruit and some veggie and that is the basis of what we fed refugees when I was in Panama in the 90s.
@worm_vaqueroКүн бұрын
@kamaeq no, fish has the Omega 3 fatty acids that "meat" does not

Thanks for posting Blackie! I am really enjoying this series as a learning camper and outdoorsman. I do want to know more about the stoves. I see you almost exclusively use that little alcohol stove, but wouldn’t that be a pain to transport and store for long times? What about leaks? I would like to learn what you know about other kinds of stoves. All I have is a tablet stove, and I actually have never used it.

From experience I can say make sure when using fish that your cook set is stainless and not aluminum. Once upon a time I used my German 3 piece canteen set (aluminum) to cook rice in a bag and added canned fish. My cup smelled like fish afterwards..

Hey Blackie, might want to consider doing a canteen cup video on using them them. Tuna packets them them chicken flavors tuna packets with some nor rice or some of that rice like you say I’ve been doing a lot of that lately and I think your viewers might like it’s you using the packets in the water for immersion and putting it on a tortilla orputting it in the cup immersion heating and then using the water to put that to make up with the rice or the chicken Alfredo and putting it on a tortilla

Really like the canteen cup cooking series. The only problem I see is that processed meat or canned meat has so much salt. 10 years ago I started a journey to get control of type II diabetes, with one step being to lower my salt intake... it worked and I was able to quit all meds and have been able to go 8 years now. Just saying this so people will think about the choices. With that being said, that combo is one that I would use , but not too many times in a row.
