@@MattLarkin-d2r is this Evans 🔥 burner?
@Ceasefirestories1776

As a former heroin and fentanyl addict I can confirm Evans hypothesis. The over prescription of addictive opioids and then the subsequent corrections of not prescribing nearly as much created a void In the drug market that the cartels took advantage of which led us to the fentanyl crisis. I started with pills then I couldn't find those and had to move to street drugs. Burned bridges with my family then started living on the streets of Detroit (close to the drugs) the story was the same with nearly all other homless addicts around me. I'm 26 years old. 2.5 years clean
@JR-wo3sn
@JR-wo3sn Жыл бұрын
There's also the option of having the discipline to stop taking the pills. I was on them for four years from the VA. They suddenly stopped giving them. So I just stopped taking them. It was a month of feeling like shit, but never did it cross my mind to bang fetanyl or heroin. Made an adult decision to deal with the withdrawals. Everyone can point fingers all they want, at the end of the day, it's choice. Glad you're clean, however it's all about choice.
@Ceasefirestories1776
@Ceasefirestories1776 Жыл бұрын
@@JR-wo3sn yeah well there are a lot of factors that go into something like that. I was a young kid that was swayed into turning to the heroin when I was 17. The first time I got sick from the pills I didn't even know what was happening to me. I was young and scared not fully realizing what I got myself into and I had that herion readily made available to me when they realized I was in a vulnerable spot. Btw I snorted the heroin when I started which is a way more appealing way to a young man and doesn't seem as aggressive. What I'm getting at is that it isn't always as simple for other people like it was for you. I went through hell during my addiction trying to find my footing and get my shit together. At no point did I want to be there

@@Ceasefirestories1776 Good for you hero. If only all those doctors, scientists, addictions specialists, psychologists, and psychiatrists had asked you, they could have kept addiction off of the list of fatal diseases. Shit, just quit. Problem solved. Brilliant. Now if we could just get those damn weak minded bipolar losers, and those ridiculous diabetic assholes to just quit being bipolar and diabetic, the national debt could be solves in a matter of weeks. I struggled with addiction for 25+ years before I finally got a handle on it. How and why I finally got a grip doesn't matter. The fact is that addiction has been proven irrefutably to be a fatal disease. It's hereditary and it's literally beyond the control of people truly afflicted with it. The fact every once in a while some guy comes along and is able to stop using drugs or alcohol through "just choosing" only proves that you don't have the addiction gene or whatever the hell it is. Of the millions and millions of people who all have struggled, and died. Like actually knew they were killing themselves and just could *NOT* stop themselves. But the few people who were able to just walk away from it, to talk about how it's a simple matter of will, is the height of ignorance. It's literally like a person who's never broken their leg telling a guy with a compound fracture to his femur that he just needs to stop being such a pussy and get up and walk. Because you twisted your ankle once and "know what it's like." It's absolutely awesome that you were able to walk away from opioids with minimal issues. But throw such ignorant misinformed bullshit around to people who are dying is beyond irresponsible. It's no different than if I started telling combat veterans that P.T.S.D. is just a matter of forgetting about it and manning up. Because I had a traumatic experience or two and have been able to push through it, in no way gives me the right, the education, or what have you to go telling guys who haven't been able to move past their own trauma that because I did it, they should be able to.

I live in Playa Vista, CA (heart of LA). It will blow your mind what the vagrants/crazy/homeless are allowed to do. I live among this mess and see it. Friends of mine from other countries say that these area are the worst slums in the world. Of course there is upside in CA. My family and I live well above average here in Los Angeles. But, the first break in my professional career we are out of here asap. The mayor of LA and gov of CA spit in the face of the taxpayers here. They spend billions and only increase the homeless population. (of course, they incentivize this behavior). We just recently had a huge fire that caused damage to the I-10 highway. This fire was started by a homeless encampment. There is "homeless" under every over pass in LA. They start fires to stay warm at night, jerry-rig electrical connection to light posts etc.. This fire that will cost CA taxpayers millions is caused by the Ca's refusal to do anything about "homeless". The state of CA is going to do everything possible to hide the fact that this was caused by poor management of the homeless. They say homelessness is a victimless crime. That is crap. The damage to the I-10 if proof. In fact 50% of the fires that spread and get out of control in LA are started by homeless encampments. Before moving here I had never seen any person poo/urinate in a public space, use drugs in public space, have sex in a public space and jump trash in the middle of the streets. Anyone of these actions can be seen seen daily, 365 days a year... I know, just leave. I will eventually. But, for the folks that live in other states beware of any crap CA is exporting to you. What they are saying in this podcast are true and are 100 times worse in person.

I know Mike doesn’t like the saying “People are getting what they voted for.” But, it is exactly the truth. The voters were warned of the negative potentials of Prop 47, Prop 36 and AB109 by every Police Chief and Sheriff in the state. They didn’t listen. Here’s a challenge for people. Did you vote in the last presidential election? Did you vote in your last mid-term election? Did you vote in your last local election? Can you name your mayor or county supervisor? Can you name your state legislative representatives? What is the name of your US congressperson? What is the name of your two US Senators?

Nothing better than having a conversation about current events/politics/world events/etc. and just sharing points of view. Nobody has to win....just kinda turning it over in your head. I miss those from pre-pandemic work and social interaction. The extra time afforded to me because of telework and being online......lots of rabbit holes and things that should be bounced off people with different opinions that are capable of having those conversations. The goal is to use your mind, have fun, be social, maybe have a couple beers or whatever, and still be friends at the end of the night. No hurt feelings!! The other thing that is fun is talk about personal stuff.....how much fun it is to be a dad, how hard it is, how coaching your kids in sports was a hilarious minefield of subterfuge and misdirection! Great job guys. Have a great weekend!

Y'know, as good as I know these podcasts are going to be just by virtue of the trio you three still surprise me, every damned time. As a California native who ended up back here in northern LA county from The Rockies for family reasons (palliative caretaking for my grandmother) I've been trying to parse what the hell is happening in the state, and Mike's LA videos and now this discussion are prooving quite...enlighteningly comforting, I suppose, all be it in a rather grim way. I couldn't believe how bad it was three years ago when I first returned - I'll never forget driving along the 210 at the height of covid, seeing a tent city along the side of the road several miles long that looked and smelled as bad as anything in a third world country, and trying (and failing miserably) to parse it with my memories of LA from the 90s and early 2000s - and it's only getting worse, but in the old "boiling a frog" analogy sense it's hard not miss just how bad it is continuously becoming, especially because of the weird sort of...gaslighting, for lack of a better term...that seems to come from all sides. On the one hand the locals of all stripes and creeds seem to be in a weird, almost trance like denial over how bad it is, just looking the other way while people shoot up or blaze narcotics on the sides of the road and in doorways of businesses or wander the streets in droves muttering and twitching, and the entire atmosphere of the place is growing progressively more and more suffocatingly oppressive. On the other hand people I speak to from outside the state either deny the problem outright or do the "well the idiots get what they voted for" response, depending on their preferred news outlet and political party, which shows a level of respective delusion or callousness that blows my mind. Most of the people I'm around passionately and vocally didn't vote for any of this and, in private moments, will disclose how heartbroken, numb, and increasingly hopeless they feel as they watch their state dissolve into chaos, and yet their lives, businesses, metworks, communities, memories, and all the rest are here so it isn't a matter of simply packing up and moving on, as much as they would increasingly like to. Granted it may very get to that, and rather fast depending on the way the politics goes, but as it stands the disintegration is just slow enough that people can keep their head down, do the grind, and hunker down with their families and communities to keep chugging along and looking the other way as things keep getting worse... All of which is to say I deeply appreciate the compassionate, well articulated, and savvy outside perspective you three are putting down - I haven't heard its equal, and the ratification of my own observations and experiences, as an outsider of sorts stuck in the proverbial mud, of just how bad this dumpster fire is proving to be is...comforting, I suppose. Cold comfort, granted, but beggars can't be choosers so I'll take it gratefully. Thanks a million, and keep it up...

“Skid Row” is a section of Downtown LA. It’s approximately southeastern portion. “Central LA” is just a portion of LA and “Central Division” is just the name of the police station. P.S. so many people don’t bring up the fact that a portion of LA’s homeless are people from out of state. Alaska’s governor literally admitted to almost doing that from advice he received from other governors.

Would be a great time to spend an evening at a small tavern or card table just shootin the shit and consuming an adult beverage or two with all or any of ya. But I’ll bet none of you have the time to enjoy those type of simple pleasures. Too few and far between im guessin.

I wonder if LA's skid row is like Vancouver in that the majority of the "people" are not actually from there but have been exported/moved to the area because it's pretty unlikely they will die from the weather and its a major drug importation point resulting in cheaper prices..I mean for years the RCMP in Alberta was putting people on the bus to Vancouver because at the time our winter was mild enough to not kill people...

My Grandparents use to take us down to skid row (back when it was still only a row not blocks) and told us if you don’t work and do drugs you better find a good shopping cart because this is where you live. It worked needless to say…oh and That mustache is solid…keep it

Politicians should be held to UCMJ standard, if they're potentially making decisions on the military they need to be held to the same standard and if the military doesn't get paid they don't get paid, can't invest in the military industrial complex, etc.

Love you guys. There is a certain 3 letter agency responsible for importing cocaine into this country in the 80s and 90s. And its just known and accepted. There is a direct correlation to this and what has happened to our inner cities and then every town in america. Our own government poisened us to pay for the war in the Contras. Just forgotten. How about poppie production in Afganistan going up 90% after we went there? The Saclers are a blip compared to all of that. Flying right into Mena Arkansas. Its crazy.

I think the problem in general is that government wants us to rely on them for their sustenance. For a majority of people, we are born in a society, raised in a society, sent to school to adapt and learn how to integrate ourselves into society, and feed the machine, and continue to be a cog in the massive machine of society. And government is basically the administrator/orchestrator of this government and over our lives in this society. They teach us what is relevant in our community to be reintroduced back into it into the workforce after getting an education. In lower income communities, the schools might stop at high school since they only need that level of education to have a functional workforce. In other areas, they might need a minimum of a bachelor's, and maybe a masters would be preferred for the types of jobs in that other community, and therefore that's what is focused on the success of that community. The societies we live in don't want us to be independent, to be able to thrive and survive on our own. They want us to be dependent on the machine, so we can continue to make it go around. This all sounds crazy. But we as a society aren't taught any more how to cook, how to hunt, how to shoot, how to do anything, that doesn't benefit them. They want us to shop at grocery stores, buy our foods at restaurants, get our cars fixed at auto shops not know how or be able to fix the cars ourselves, and on and on. This is a new world that is trying to make us more and more dependent on the government and the city. It's an image I can loosely see as Neo when he woke up in the pod and realized we were all slaves to the machine. How ready are we as a society to just walk away from our jobs, grab our bags and our guns, and walk out into the wilderness (which most is now paved over today), and just hike out and live off the land? Probably a very small number. Farmers, hunters, and military are generally going to be the only ones with those skills for that. The rest in society are the ones in their cars with no spare tires, never being taught how to change a tire, waiting on AAA to come save them. That's what government today (within the last 20 years or so) has raised us all to be. Sheeple. And more and more of the government programs are being designed to directly benefit the sheeple, since that's what's going to keep them dependent, and keep the other people in power since they're the only ones that can take care of things. At least, that's what they want us to believe.

at most 30% rehab, which isn't great but better than nothing on the imprisonment and incarcerated rehab. the problem with that was, most states don't have a long term rehab POST incarceration that is REQUIRED. Rhode Island's MAT program has up to 60% recovery through long term rehab.

Too dispel a myth about jailhouse rehab, it’s not really a thing. Sure people might get some “help” with their addiction, but the only way an addict gets clean is if they WANT to get clean. You can’t sentence someone into kicking a drug addiction. Especially since it’s probably as easy, if not easier, to get drugs in the state penitentiary than it is on the street.
