I just bought the Coleman grill to replace an excessively large 25 year old gas grill that could barely reach 300 degrees F. I only grill for two, so I was looking for something compact and portable. I hooked up a 5 gal propane tank and have used the grill half a dozen times. My full size cast iron flat top will be arriving tomorrow. No need for a black stone in my opinion. My first impressions are that this grill is a winner. I am very happy with it.
@HowToRV2 жыл бұрын
That was my thought exactly. We did recently purchase a blackstone just to see if we would like it. As nice as it is, I think that there are other companys out there that can provide the same experience.

I’ve got both, 22” dual burner blackstone and the Colman grill. I bought the Colman first, and to be fully honest, I’ve not gotten it back out since I got the Blackstone. I’m actually not usually a fan of steaks and burgers on a flat top, but they are good on the BS. For me the Colman would continue to heat up as you cook, also the cleaning isn’t easy. All the grease catching in those trays, and always a mess cleaning them. Plus the little green bottles don’t last long. The stand is easy on the Colman and already being attached is nice. I agree the wheels help, have the same camper as you and with the wheels it’s easy to get it all the way to the back of storage. On the BS, clean up is super easy. All dripping go the the foil lined cup on the back. Comes with the hose to use a full size propane tank. I do have the legs/stand with mine. The legs can be tricky to get level because each one adjust individually, however each one adjust individually so if the ground isn’t level, no prob. Easier to control the temp. I cook everything on it, omelets, bacon, burgers, steak even hibachi style rice and whatever meat the family requested. Prob a highlight to me is being able to scoot a item to one side with the burner off to keep food warm while wrapping up other items. And the big one…less dishes to wash. I can cook any meal on it and my only clean up is the spatulas I used and the foil liner that I just toss away. The BS is heavy also. And my biggest complaint with it, mine came with an attachable side table, but it’s the same side the gas hooks up, so you have the hose crossing half the table. Otherwise, love it.

If you asked me a few years ago, I would have agreed with this video. After using this product for quite some time however, I've changed my mind on it. I've owned three of these since they first came out (even the first edition before your model). I have all the accessories - the griddle attachment, (the 2 piece AND 1 piece) - the stove attachment etc. I even have the propane attachment allowing me to use a full-size propane bottle (vs those little camping ones). Btw, if you don't already have that accessory.. get it. Game changer! I don't want to bash this coleman product because I DO like it and this is your channel/video, but, I've found clear differences/weaknesses in this product vs a purpose-built griddle. I've since swapped this grill out in my RV for the blackstone (and btw, you can now get blackstones that work exactly how the roadtrip does with the pop-up stand w/wheels.) Though I WILL say, the Blackstone portable/wheel model is higher profile (even when collapsed) vs the coleman. So if you have one of those older trailers/RV's with very short storage compartment doors, then this coleman might still be the ticket for you. Speaking of mobility.. wheeling the coleman around? Not a fun endeavor. If you're over 6ft (maybe even shorter) and try to wheel that around, the angle drags the handle on the other side. Plus the part you actually hold (basically the leg of it) is so short, you're slouched the entire time you wheel it around anyway. It's so uncomfortable to wheel for any distance at all that I usually just pick it completely up and carry it. And then there's the heat control (or lack thereof) with this coleman and the glorious like, 10 degrees (I'm making that up but you get the idea) of motion in the heat dials. "Low" isn't low enough and "High" is the surface of the sun. And the grease catch on this thing - UGHHH. If it's just you and the wifey and maybe 1-2 kids - sure. But if you're cooking for a large family or group - and heaven forbid you're cooking bacon - that grease catch is going to overflow. Been there doooooooone THAT (a lot) lol. And then of course on the grilling side - indirect cooking doesn't work well but even if it did, because of the short lid, you can't do things like a whole chicken (it hits the underside of the lid). Thick cuts of steak (tri-tip for instance) is also a challenge (for the previously mentioned indirect cooking issues). Doable? Yes. But plan for it to take awhile. Like I said I DO like the product here, but, on it being better, or even just as good as an actual griddle (for griddle purposes).. now that I have a lot of time on it (at least 100 cooks), I sadly can no longer agree. Is it worthless? NO! This grill is now my tent camping grill because, due to those accessories I mentioned above, it can be both a grill (though like I said it's not really that wonderful as an actual grill - it suffers in indirect heating), and a stove, and a griddle. It's like a swiss-army knife - excellent for tent camping where you really only want to bring one device! It does everything 'ok' but nothing really great. Actually, that's not fully true. If you're only looking to cook a few burgers (4-6) - then this thing is the jam with the griddle attachment. Most of the time though, in my RV, I'm either griddling (for more than 5 people) pancakes, bacon, burgers, potatoes, etc, OR BBQ (steaks, chicken, etc). Rather than the 'swiss army knife' I now just bring a purpose built griddle and a purpose built small charcoal BBQ (the Oklahoma Joe Rambler to be specific). I'm in cookin' paradise!!!! Before with the coleman - it always got the job DONE, but I was never a top-notch experience. It's still fun to have both though - I love having options!! And sometimes I still swap it out.. just for funsies. In fact, after writing all this that no one will probably ever read, I think I'm going to swap it back into my RV for the next trip, just for fun LOL.

Glad that you wrote this detailed comment. I would have to agree totally on all of it. Actually (Shhhhhh) we baught a blackstone and my wife will never return. She has the accessories too and loves every aspect of it. However like you, I diid not get rid of my coleman. My plan is to give to my daughters so they can use it when they go out camping. I agree on the fact that the colemant is a great addition for those who are tent campers. As far as others reading your comment. I can only hope that a bunch of others will respond and comment too. Happy camping and God Bless.

We dropped our Black Stone as well. Did not care for it. We went with the Weber grill and like it much more. When I cook a steak or burger I want stripes on it. lol For your grill you can also get a flat top for the breakfast stuff like eggs. So then you can have the best of both worlds. I agree with you the Coleman is better.

So you know what the solution is, buy both . . . lol. That's what we did. We have owned a 17" Blackstone Griddle for a while now, and I do like it. But I missed those grill marks for steaks and burgers, so we bought that exact grill you have a couple of months back. And I love it. If we got the cast iron flat surface for this grill, I might not need the griddle. But one thing is, I think it's a little easier to clean the griddle than the components of the grill. But still I like them both! Happy grilling. Debbie - BluWave Odyssey

Have you see the Weber or Napoleon travel grills with the scissor stands and wheels? They look A LOT like the Coleman but they're more expensive. They do look like they are made out of better quality materials tho and the Napoleon has a 10 yr warranty so maybe the higher price is worth it. I'm not sure tho. Anyways thanks for the experienced perspective!

@shanedenmark55366 ай бұрын
The biggest difference with the Weber is the grates are more similar to what your home grill might have, so you’re actually cooking with the flame instead of scorching your food on the Coleman half grill/half griddle.

Nice griddle, i own one but the thing that sucks about coleman griddle is grease trap. I wish they made inserts to keep bottom of burner tray clean. Other than that coleman is good little griddle, but i will be investing in some sort of blackstoone soon to replace coleman. Coleman clean up is horrible.

Right now, we travel with a foldable charcoal grill and a smoker. While we’ve thought about upgrading to the Blackstone, we’ve also heard people have issues cooking certain meats on them. I think upgrading to the Coleman would be a better option for us. I am curious, though, do you know what the price difference is between your grill and a black stone?

I totally agree with you on this Coleman. I have a flat griddle that will go on my Coleman stove that will do exactly the same thing I'm sure as these silly Blackstone grills which in my opinion are far too over rated! The only thing I would use a griddle for are: pancakes, bacon and eggs, yes! that would be it! I would not fry any meat on a griddle other than bacon, leave the steaks & hamburgers to a portable bbq to get that bbq flavour in your food. But to be honest, I use a portable weber bbq with stand (not this coleman in your video) for our meats and then use our Coleman stove for frying up those breakfasts, boiling things, etc.(they will hold a 10" and 12" fry pan) Our Coleman stove is the original slim line stove that takes up very little room to store away in your RV and the weber portable bbq which works the same, small and compact. Thanks for this video!
@HowToRV3 жыл бұрын
I was thinking about getting the flat griddle for ours. Where did you get yours?
@joynylen74883 жыл бұрын
@@HowToRV You can get them at any local hardware store or camping store, I'm sure Walmart carries them. I got ours at Canadian Tire here in Canada. They fit perfectly on top of a Coleman stove creating your own griddle and then also the 10" and 12" fry pans fit nicely on the stove side by side. The griddle even has a gutter around the outer edge that funnels to one end for grease catching. So, we operate a 'original Coleman stove'(sleek and compact design and very cheap) with the added grill you can buy separately and the weber portable bbq. for that bbq flavour. Thats it for all of our outdoor cooking needs and 2 great space savers as well..
@joynylen74883 жыл бұрын
I forgot to add, there is a flat griddle for your's and wherever you purchased your Coleman you should be able to get the flat griddle as a separate accessory. Mine for my Coleman stove is flat but is rectanguler in shape. But I am sure any shape would work for your Coleman to sit on top. Just make sure you get a cast iron one.

I’d love to see how you use this Coleman grill. I’ve had no luck with mine. I wanted one ever since I first saw one at a Buffalo Bills tailgate party. Finally scored a nice little deal on one, and have been completely disappointed. It’s either not hot enough or go to cook or hotter than Hades. And the solid cast iron grates gets even hotter still. Can’t even cook hot dogs; the grates burn the outside long before they cook inside. Most folks I’ve talked to at the campgrounds have had similar results. Great idea, poor execution, total bust. Womp womp womp (sad trombone).
