@TheScotchaholic5 жыл бұрын
There is no other knife company founder that is unabashed about self defense and what certain blades are for. Lynn and Cold Steel doesn't pull no punches and tells it like it is, since the very beginning. Check online for some of his early catalog articles, penned by Lynn himself - his stances and philosophies have remained staunch about self defense. CS is a melee weapons company - more than just knives.
@anotherknafguy36795 жыл бұрын
@@TheScotchaholic Very true, and its awesome he's owning the space--but this is a polarizing issue and Lynn is a polarizing person. I'm sure a lot of people in the knife community would really like to see Cold Steel take a different direction as far as marketing and rhetoric are concerned. Perhaps a rebrand with their more practical EDC friendly options under one name and the Self Defense tools and larger folders under Cold Steel. The knives showcased in this video are great, but not even close to their top 7 offerings in my opinion.
@TheScotchaholic5 жыл бұрын
@@anotherknafguy3679 The saying goes: "Get woke, go broke." CS doesn't need rebranding or a different line marketed to PC pansies. Anyone with a bit of sense, will know that any PC looking blade, is still capable of being an emergency self defense tool/weapon. People that are turned off by Lynn's style and rhetoric, are not the types to use their blades heavily for training, defensive, or utility purposes. Everyone that I know that owns CS products, uses/carries them regularly. That is why CS has such a large and devout following - the more a person uses a certain brand or type of tool, they will know which brands/types are the "real deal".
@anotherknafguy36795 жыл бұрын
@@TheScotchaholic I admit, you bring up very valid points..but I don't agree completely that people turned off by Lynn's style would be precluded from using their knives in Self Defense or Hard Use roles. Im a proud owner and user of several Cold Steels, but also admit that sometimes Lynn comes off as a bit cringeworthy for my tastes..anyone willing to do a bit of research into their products will find years and years of abuse testing and marketing proving their point and products true. I just think they can chill now is all and avoid a lot of the hate they get from people who just don't understand. The rebrand could be done under cold steel's name, but you have to admit there is a distinct difference in some of their design philosophies..and the variety of products they carry is huge and could benefit from its own brand. Lynn Thompson is a legend in the Knife game, nobody can deny that, but I think they are big enough to let the products speak for themselves now.

I was referring to Jason's comment that suggested violent assaults are uncommon. Many people work or live in areas where these crimes are very common. Acting like self defense tools are a crackpot idea is simply insane. Usually liberals are the ones who push this idea, hence their push to make them illegal. You can't help but call out their own hypocrisy. The most democrat cities are the most dangerous. Also they love to say "rape culture is so bad women are afraid to go out side". The in that same breath "conservative women carry guns, paranoid much". I will always call out their bullshit, especially when referring to self defense as some irrational measure for scenarios that will never happen. That's how these tools become illegal.

I subscribed because of this video and Lynn Thompson and the amazing products from his company Cold Steel. I love the fact that he makes products that can be used in real-life dangerous situations when a firearm isn’t at hand. Unlike some others, he doesn’t live in a bubble and knows just how messed up and dangerous the real world can be. Much respect and thanks from me. Hope he stays around for a long time to come. Thanks for posting this. And yes, I’m already planning to buy a couple of the ones you featured. All the best to the both of you.

NateInTheSticks my first was a cheapy Kukri and dear lord did I underestimate what it was capable of. Made me go out to my property looking for stuff to cut down.

Same here first Cold Steel I got was the Rajah 3, not a full size kukri but I still have it 8 years later and it'll probably go another 8 just fine. For the price you can't ask for a better knife to do all the things you don't want to do with expensive ones.

I've replied before several years ago about being a 30 year full time LEO. I'm retired no, but while employed and after being retired I still carry the Cold Steel Recon 1 Tanto. It has never not once failed me. I am and will always be a Cold Steel Knife carrier. I have numerous ones I carry but my Recon 1 is always my first to use. It is truly a knife I personally trust every time to save my life in a bad situation. Thank you Cold Steel for taking the time to make a knife that meets the high demands and dependability Law Enforcement and our Military and First Responders can rely on when needed.

I've watched this video more than a dozen times. Every month or so, I've got to watch it again. Beautiful! I think they should bring back the Desperado (Vaquero Grande) boot knive. I have one but I want another!

I have a 4” Ti-Lite, and I have carried it every single day for the past two years. Best money I’ve ever spent, as I’ve used it nearly everyday, and it’s just as solid as the day I bought it. Cold steel makes some amazing stuff :)

My 4" Cold Steel Voyager was my favorite knife for nearly a decade, it lived on me, (yup, pretty much litterally!) And it never failed in any way.. I have yet to try one of their new tri-ad lock folders, but expect a Recon 1 will be my next knife.. If i can still order one into Australia.. We aren't free people in a free country anymore.

Wellcome to the club! At this verry moment: - a Vaquero Grande, about 30 years old. I have a second one, because I could not find it for some time, so my Brother thought that I may have lost it, and he bought me a new one. Short time later the old Vaquero Grande was found in my car. - a Luzon XL, great knife, a lot of knife for the buck - two Pro Lite, one with a clip point, one with a tanto blade, my latest acquisition. Two more "apropriate" blades that may not scare people when you draw it during a picknick. Ah, I forgot, I carry an old "the Spike" with tanto blade around my neck, this knife is maybe 25 years old as well. My verry first Cold Steel knife was a Trail Master in Carbon V steel. This one I may have bought in the 1980's. It is heavy used, but as sharp as from the factory. There is as good as no corrosion on the blade, as I maintain my knifes.

Have a Cold Steel Master Hunter. An amaziing knife I was given as a gift. Have field dressed most of the deer I have harvested. Came very sharp right out of the box. Holds an edge and sharpens easily. Have a Counter Tach 1 that I carry everyday. Removed the belt clip and carry in my front pocket. Indestructable ! I have abused this knife and it does not even have a blemish. I have thrown it a lot. Have chopped down a 4 inch tree with it when I was hunting. Will do whatever is asked of it. Will not ever let you down. Would support your weight if it had too. Thank you Lynn Thompson.

I'm a competitive axe thrower in two different organizations. I used to buy antique axes and modified them for throwing. Four doubles I wanted an inexpensive axe so I bought Cold Steel axe gang. The only modification I made was to shorten the handle. I was amazed at how great it was. I now exclusively throw cold steel axe gangs. Their products are amazing and the prices they sell them for is even more amazing. One of my favorite knives for work is the Tuff Light. The only drawback is that it's tip down carry only. I usually never carry a knife that is tip down carry but this knife is so good I really don't care. Cold Steel is an amazing company. When they found out how popular the axe gang is for competition throwing they decided to work with throwers to come up with a competition axe gang that is legal in both major throwing organizations. I only hope to get more involved with our sport.
