I'm not a gas fitter but backing the nut off 1/4 turn may make it easier to undo but nearly guarantee a gas leak. I think you should have tightened the nut then 1/4 turn extra PS. I would have used Gas safe PTFE Tape and some Fernox LS-X Jointing compound and leak sealer. Maybe someone with greater knowledge could advise better but a gas joint backed off 1/4 turn is a disaster waiting to happen in my humble opinion. Keep going your nearly there ❤❤❤❤

oh right thats interesting. That you so much ❤️

@@TheNomadicCrobot Late to the party, but the above advice is correct (with one exception). Never loosen off gas joints, they need to be tight, especially since the rubbber seals inside the fittings shrink over time, which will definitely cause a gas leak. Also, please do not use Fernox LS-X as that is for sealing water leaks only. You will find that the hose nuts will have rubber washers inside, which don't need any sealant, and the bayonette end has been designed in such a way that they will seal fine without any jointing compound, just ensure they are tight. To be extra sure your joints aren't leaking, buy some LDF (leak detection fluid) to spray on the joints after you have fitted them. If you see bubbles forming, then you have a gas leak. So you just fitted two new hoses which is four connections without cleaning the treads on the regulator so as you haven't bothered to fit a bubble tester you now don't know if you have a leak good work
@markwhiting43225 ай бұрын
bubble tester is a falsehood, BSS are not alway fully gas qualified, so the bubble tester is a loophole how the inspectors get around not being qualified gas people...................there are some BSS inspectors that are FULLY qualified and they really hate the bubble tester falsehood because it a job that does not need doing and costs money people don't need to spend.......

Unlike liquid fittings, the threads on gas hoses have nothing to do with making the fitting gas tight. It is the rounded relatively soft metal tip that gets compressed into a rounded socket that makes it seal and on the other end of the hose the gasket along with a partially rounded end that does the sealing. Still a good idea to spray soap/water mix on the connections and see if any bubbles form. If you do fit a "bubble tester" make sure it is right AFTER the regulator in the gas locker and DEFINITELY test the "bubble tester" with soapy water after installation. Ironically, maybe 15% of leaks in all new installations are the bubble testers.
@paulhutchins60195 ай бұрын
Your content always makes me laugh. Keep it up guys. Oh, with gas welding and brazing, the fuel gas is always left hand thread and oxygen is right, so they cannot be switched. You also only get 5 years out of regulators etc as they're date stamped. This would include shelf life as well!

Lol, no. That would not work. The two ends are the same gender, and reverse threading one side would make that impossible! As I understand it, it is to prevent people from using lines for non flammables (oxygen, co2, etc) on flammables (acetylene, propane, etc)

I definitely would contemplate sealing up those bolt holes under the solar panels. Squeezing in a bunch of sealant into the hole from an applicator gun should do the trick.

now thats not a bad shout at all...problem is weve now already screwed it
@Transit_Biker5 ай бұрын
@@TheNomadicCrobot I know you guys mentioned that the panels are just temporary and you’re looking to do a more permanent thing at some point. However… water is notorious for getting into places that don’t have a good drip edge. Since the grab rail is integrated into the roof, you may not be able to get in there to mitigate water damage, which could seep down through the screw threads. You’ll probably be fine for a couple of months, but I would definitely address that sooner rather than later or you may end up cutting a section of that grab rail off to repair the rust hidden within. The integrated rails are definitely better overall, but they do have some drawbacks. Not trying to steamroll the comment section or come off as some bossy boss, but having seen the nightmares unfold on other boats on other KZbin channels, any opportunity to protect the boat from corrosion (especially hidden from sight) should be grabbed with much vigor. You two know what you’re doing, but yeah, that definitely jumped out at me! There are various fashioners that you can use such as rivnuts which can be sealed against the surface they are fixed to and act as a plug keeping out rain etc. these are especially good for mounting solar panels.
