I never understood why these guys aren't better known. Seriously, listen to that voice - it's fantastic!

One of my favourite singers ever. His voice and Stephen Luscombes keys just made for something special..

It is also a voice that has a lot of range - from the darkly comic to the deeply emotional. One of the really good things about the lyrics to blancmange songs is that sometimes they have this really off beat dead pan humour to them. A classic example of this is "By the bus stop at Wollies" of the album Blancburn. Though the lyrics to "Making Aeroplanes" which is off a compilation called "The best of blancmange" is also great as well - especially the way they rhyme "off to the chippie" with "confess you're a hippie"

Check out Unfurnished Rooms and Wanderlust - both brilliant albums. More people need to be aware of the amazing Blancmange rennaisance there has been. I suspect their stuff is just too good to be in the charts (or at least the mainstream ones)

The coolest thing beside the music is just how grounded they have remained. Seriously, how many other artists openly encourage fans to approach and talk to them.

Cheers from America. I luckily stumbled upon this Garage show because I had a strong need to hear Blamcmange's wordy gem "See The Train" I have been a true fan since a young lad. Owning many imported 12 inch singles purchased with money earned by washing cars and mowing many lawns in my neighborhood. At 11 years young in the year of our lord ninteenthousand and eighty one, I just had to know what a "Blamcmange" was and why did this unique Tall & Short music duo decide on naming their band after a French pastry made from boiled milk.To this day, I have never received a fulfilling answer, So with that said, Mind gripping unanswered wonderment grips the back of my mind, which I can without a doubt hold responsible for the many times when I had drove thru a Red traffic light. Ahhhh, I am just being a bit cheeky there for a laugh,.But in all seriousness. What I did receive from Blamcmange was a magic connection to their music and it being a grand part and added to my life's musical soundtrack. To this very day it still excites me to hear it, breath it, and live it, just as it did so many years ago. So, if the word ageless is the cornerstone that defies something as "Classic".....then that is what I will call it, and just leave it at that. After viewing this little Garage gig, I was pleased to "hear" that that strong articulate voice has not rusted, cracked or become lost over the years, but has richly matured. As in the case with Leonard Cohen, by leaving his fans with his last and most well heeled and sexiest albums of his carreer at the very young age of 92 as if to say to his desiples , " Im just getting warmed up" Very glad to have seen this perfomance and witness new material. I would have been more pleased however if this perfomance had been presented by a Blamcmange film and sound crew. Finer sound, various quality camera angles I'm sure would have been strategically applied, resulting into a much more engaging gig for those of us unfortunate to be there. But instead, we got this.... garbled interuptions, hooting, hollering laughter, drunken babble all while a performance was undrway...removing all the distracting loudness from the crowd would have been priority one, resulting into a class act production, had my suggestion been applied. Maybe next time. If you care to see a beautiful example of how a well disciplined and respectful audience behaves, please take a look at Karl Hyde's live performance of "8 Ball" at London's Chapel theater. My gift to you. You can thank me later.

Emiliano Sanchez I usually skip long comments but I read through yours and wholeheartedly agree with your comments about Neil’s amazing current voice quality and the annoying noisy audience members. The distractions have not kept me from listening to this dozens of times though. I’ve had to learn to tune it out, even the comment from someone saying that he reckons “David Rhodes looks like a younger version of Lou Reed”... lol
