In this video our Jeep JLU aka Project JLO gets a complete steering makeover. This kit from PSC replaces every part of the factory steering system on the Jeep JL from top to bottom.
The New Jeep JL is equipped with new computer controlled electro-hydraulic steering (EHPS), electronic stability control (ESC) electronic roll mitigation (ERM), and a weight saving aluminum housing steering gearbox. PSC has taken the Jeep JL steering system back to the drawing board and engineered our exclusive Big Bore XD-JL Steering Gearbox and a traditional belt-driven High Flow Mechanical Power Steering Pump Conversion, producing an essential upgrade to solve the original steering issues and efficiently handle the increased torque loads due to larger tire sizes and installing aftermarket axle assemblies.
Application:
2018 Jeep JL 2 Door/4 Door 3.6L Pentastar with OEM Dana 30 Axle
Features:
•Eliminates excessive on-center "play" at the steering wheel
•Eliminates electro-hydraulic pump overheating
•Increased Torque Output turns 37"- 44" tire sizes
•Improved turning capability when locking differentials are engaged
Includes:
•SG689R Big Bore XD-JL Cylinder Assist Steering Gear Box
•High Flow Mechanical Pump Conversion Kit
•Jeep JL Reservoir Kit
•Upgraded High Pressure Hose Assembly
•Upgraded Return Line Kit
•Fluid Cooler Kit
•SC2222 Steering Assist Cylinder Kit
•Tie Rod Clamp (available in 38MM or 40MM sizes)
•SWEPCO 715 Power Steering Fluid
Tech:
A Tazer JL Programmer (Tazer JL & Tazer JL MINI) will need to be purchased to override the OEM electro-hydraulic pump functions when installing the PSC High Flow Mechanical Pump Conversion Kit

You'll also need a JL Tazer: bit.ly/2ofz6Kt

I've been fighting with Jeep since June 2018 for the same dead spot in the steering wheel and all I get is, "nothing wrong, all Wranglers drive like this" even though the loaner I had steered better. When I mentioned the loaner steered normal Jeep then blamed my stock Rubicon KO2 tires. WTF? Anyway thanks for the install video Matt, I may end up doing the same thing!

Ya the dealerships are never gonna take responsibility for anything... before I bought it they were like, ohh the warranty is awesome, if you have any problems just bring it in and we'll take care of it no problem. After I bought it they were done with me and didn't want to help with even the simplest tasks and wanted to blame everything on aftermarket parts.

I've had and mentioned to the dealership since July 2018 on my JL Sahara about this. I searched youtube and found a couple of videos that mentioned a software issue. The dealership said they heard nothing about it so I've lived with it since then. As Gow mentioned, a recall was sent to fix a steering issue. I like your idea better but at 31 hundo, where's the lock tight? Great video. Subscribed.

FCA dealers are giving everyone the run around that has this issue. It's a massive cover up and hoping they lose their pants in a negligence or reckless endangerment lawsuit. Some of these vehicles, mine included, are unsafe to drive on the highway.

I heard that Jeep discovered that some of the early JLU’s had the incorrect steering code for the two door JL instead of the four door Unlimited code which compensates for the added vehicle length making the JLU squirrelly . When the electric power steering had the JLU code imputed it corrected the issue you were demonstrating. I had a 2018 JLUR that was impacted and totaled it which was under six month and with one oil change and one dealer car wash. A totally impatient foolish youngster trying to play race car on the freeway was culprit. It is now replaced by a 2019 JLUR which I also am very very pleased with, being my fifth Jeep. Thank you for the great presentation. .

Electric Fiat power steering pumps don't work that's why they are magic if they do and why this kit is needed. I'm thinking Fiat needs to sell DIY Jeeps in a box with the optional parts the buyer wants so you can actually end up with a functional Jeep the first time.

First of all, thank you so much for the vide! It is spot on and makes the installation very manageable in the garage. I finished it in under one day. I might suggest that you delete the electronic power steering with the TAZER before you start, because if you forget, the codes are exhausting to get rid of. Second, if you have trouble with your lifted jeep wrangler jlu feeling like it steers all over the place and constantly requires input, this modification will make it go away. The steering is so much better! Shame on you Jeep for not doing anything to make this right.

Incase you're wondering they do not offer this for the 2.0T what they do offer is a Fluid Cooler kit. So us 2.0T JL owners either have a superior steering system or the aftermarket is leaving us behind. which sucks because we make more TQ than the 3.6 and that TQ is more than enough to make the 15HP more in the 3.6 moot.

Nope they ( Chrysler/FIAT ) have not got it correct. Just as bad on an March 2019 JLUR. Upgraded suspension from Metal cloak and am looking to do steersmart drag link and tie rod with PSC ram assist to correct and Rusty's track bar brace. Now i bought my Jeep knowing I will be upgrading components, but did not realize I had to do it due to faulty engineering.Their is a recall now to correct steering stabilizer, but will not correct the issue. Along with a service bulletin to check welds, but most jeep mechanics do not know what they are looking for. Basically the welds are not full nor sufficient. The track bar bracket is weak. The bushings for the track bar, drag link, and tie rod are super weak and as you gain speed on a road between 35 and 50 and hit a bump you get death wobble. Otherwise you are always having to adjust the steering input every few seconds to correct for inequality in steering equipment.

I have a Nov. 2018 build JLUR and even though mine is eligible for the steering damper recall, I haven't done it... mostly because our Rubicon drives/tracks great. I plan to leave everything as is until my factory warranty is up, then go Fox all the way around (including the damper). Personally, if I'm dropping my brand-new vehicle off for a warranty issue... I'm not taking possession of it until I am satisfied that the problem is fixed. If I'm not satisfied, the vehicle is going to sit there until I am and the Service Manager/District Manager/Dealership Owner and Ma Mopar is going to hear about it. But for FFS, don't spend $2300 to fix a problem that should be covered under warranty. I mean, if EVERY JL had this issue then you could say it is something inherent to the design... but that's not the case.

Hey Matt; so, the story as I read about it, is that the early JL's have defective frame-side track bar brackets. The metal is so weak, it flexes, causing the whole front axle to wander. When Jeep started making Gladiators, frame side track bar brackets were breaking. Jeep put a stop sale on a lot of Gladiators and they started producing stronger frame side brackets on both the JT's and the JL's. Put your camera down there and take a look, as you're going down the road.

Now that I've had a chance to watch the whole video, I have to say, comparing your new steering with my JL's steering (built in late May 2019) your new steering is still not as steady as mine. Check your frame side Track Bar Bracket. From what little I've seen of it in this video, it looks rather flimsy. just stepped outside for a quick peek and on mine, you can see how the factory welded an exterior plate to the frame and an exterior plate to the Track Bar Bracket. Can you shoot some photos or video of your bracket to compare with mine?
@301steady
@301steady 4 жыл бұрын
OK Matt; so, I've posted a quick video of my frame side track bar bracket. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mF6vgJhjaZKGedU I've spotted your bracket at 3:07 , 4:32 , 7:36 , 8:12 , 9:05 , 15:12 ; but, the real smoking gun is at 11:35 .... Your JL's bracket is weak compared to mine. If you can get Jeep to fix it, do it. If you can't, time to get some metal and reinforce that bracket in your famous BleepinJeep fashion.
@bleepinjeep
@bleepinjeep 4 жыл бұрын
Cool thanks man! I'll have to go look but it does look like they reinforced it a lot more in the later models. I did take it to the dealer to have them check for that and it wasn't under recall for the track bar bracket bad weld issue but I still think they messed up somehow.

@@bleepinjeep The dealerships are pretty much reiterating what is said by corporate. You may want to get your own lawsuit going. It's probably going class-action; but, you won't get much out of that ~ years later. You're in a unique position compared to all other lawsuits. You now know what the real problem is. You can mount a camera under the vehicle and record the track bar bracket as you're going down the road. No amount of aftermarket parts is going to affect that or should affect that. FCA engineers screwed up. That thin metal would never hold up to bigger tires, much less smashing up against a curb or rocks. Track bar brackets should be at least 1/4" thick. Yours looks like 10 gage metal. Mine looks like doubled-up 8 gage; but, really, now I'm thinking I shouldn't go with bigger tires until this bracket is reinforced, even if it's an external bolt on reinforcement. www.autonews.com/regulation-safety/fca-sued-over-alleged-jeep-wrangler-steering-issues

A solid front axle with pitman arm/draglink type steering is always going to perform worse than independent suspension with rack/pinion steering. Combine that with a short wheelbase, and you're almost guaranteed some jankiness... but it's a good tradeoff for the off-road capability.

Had recall done. It still sucks big time. BIG dead zone on mine. Its left a sour taste in my mouth. It takes a lot out of me on long drives. It really takes a lot of exaggerated movement of the steering wheel just to keep it straight at highway speeds. Working as intended my ass. My 01' XJ shitbox rides straight as an arrow at 75mph all day.
