Thanks for this series of cheap Jeep videos ! They helped me greatly with my own budget ZJ build.

Don't forget the $240.00 for the winch mount from Rough country. Originally you were going to include the price of a welder in your build if you did any welding since so many people don't have them. Aside from small things I have loved the project. In fact I just finished assembling all my parts to do the same to my ZJ, but I'm at a bit more than $1500.

Hey Matt, I just found your channel and love watching your vids especially love this series "Cheap Jeep". Why? Well I have been a Jeep owner for a long time. Had a '95 Jeep YJ Rio Grande Edition but had to sell it. Coz I needed a bigger and better family friendly vehicle. I am looking at a '98 Jeep ZJ for $1,600 and it is in my budget. But still would like to mod it without taking away money that I need for my family and for just everyday life. I think this series is more realistic to an everyday family man and what ever his everyday life is. I think building a rock crawler, even tho cool, is not realistic to an everyday family man and having a common suv like the ZJ, XJ or WJ or even the Wangler series is way more common. Let's not forget the mods tho. Most everyday family men don't have the budget to go out and buy a very expensive lift or wheels n tires. We just have to work with what we got. And that's what I loved about this "Cheap Jeep Series", you worked with what you have and bought what you needed. Would like to watch more vids like the "Cheap Jeep Series". Maybe WJ next?. Keep up the vids, but don't forget time with your family. Take care and God Bless Y'all.

Bought a $400 97 ZJ 5.2 in 2008 that needed a rear axle. Swapped in a d35/np242 tc for $200, front to rear coil spring swap for $200, and new 285 AT's for $400+free fender trim. Sunk it in a deep puddle/lake an blew a rod. Sold it all for $800. Best $400 I ever spent.

Lawrence Bury i bought a zj for $600 with a blown motor got a motor installed for 3,300 then after some other issues it was another $800 after about 3 months the transmission blew so another 2k in a transmission so I have like $6,000 into my Jeep but it had a lift and new tires when I bought it

My ZJ project -33inch tires and rims-$1200 -5.5 inch long arm lift-$2200 Price of ZJ-$850 Total cost to me-$4250 Really wish this video was out before I did my Jeep. 😔

Matt, I really enjoyed this series. Much more so than the scorpion crawler because it's "more accessible" to the masses. Don't get me wrong, the crawler was awesome, but seriously, how many of us have the time, tools, and ability to do all that? For your next project, how about a WJ Expedition Budget Build? It'd be great to see what you could come up with for say $5k!

So I just watched all videos on the cheap while I wrapped Christmas gifts. I really enjoyed the series and the approach on meeting your goal. I learned a lot of , well at least I think I did. I am looking to get a XJ, preferably cheap and 5 speed so your videos kind of prepped me on some of the aspects of making Jeeps (more) off road worthy. BTW, your intros had me rolling! No lie, they were my favorite part.

There are and have been a ton of "cheap builds" or "budget builds" on KZbin and even on TV. What I liked about the Cheap Jeep is it was realistic. All the other cheap builds I've seen they show how you can make this $10K rig for "$5k". but 90% of the NEW parts were given to them by sponsor or by someone they knew. But They never factored in the price if the freebies. The just added what they spent money on. You did a real life cheap build. You didn't buy 100% new stuff the whole time. You reused parts. Like the from springs. Deffinalty one if my favorites. Now how about a TJ cheap Jeep! 😁
@mimixownzall7 жыл бұрын
You're also adding the cost of the shift linkage that was broken while wheeling. Really don't think I would count that, since it's a repair after it was already built and a result of trail carnage.
@AllajchaSibir7 жыл бұрын
The winch is optional anyway, so basically you were below budget for the build itself! Great job and a great wheeler. Whoever wins it will have a lot of fun with it.

Okay Matt. Now that the cheap Jeep project is done.. and I really like the final product. What do you think the limitations are for this vehicle are for it? Where would you feel sure it would go, where would you be hesitant to take it, and where does it just not belong? I have a '92 XJ, am building it with just a 3" kit and lockers. I don't have any idea of the final abilities of it once finished so I am looking for some guidelines for it as a camping/hunting rig. Hope you can help.Thanks Bob-Okc

This is a little late but 1. They didn’t make zj’s in 2000. You might be thinking of a wj or an xj. 2. It’ll probably work though because they are all just Dana 30’s. Just make sure the gearing is the same.
