Oh my god, I didn't expect such a good tutorial video for a mere rock! I usually follow tutorials slightly and do things my own way because I already know some stuff on 3d modeling for other programs, so because I didn't like the tons of polygons I tried to do it with less subdivision and it looked awful. I then remembered the "decimate" modifier and tried to use it before the displace, which also looked bad. I later noticed exactly what you did and it looks much better. In the end I realised I should follow exactly what you do, and it's surely the best way to make cute low poly rocks. I also LOVE the multiple decimate advice. It 100% works better.

So amazing, THANKS, in the displacement modifier, if you set the coordinates to global, every time you move the mesh, the rock takes shape in the same procedural way, or if you prefer, you can change the type of coordinates to object, and every time you move this same object used as a coordinate in the displacement modifier, the rock randomly takes shape, that's before you apply the modifier, it worked with me.
@nowherebrain
@nowherebrain 4 жыл бұрын
you can use two decimate modifiers, the first use the planar/planer?? option and set the angle tolerance to about 12 degrees. Apply it, then add another decimate modifier and adjust the slider according to you liking...

be carefull with dissolving vertices because when a single plane exist out of more then 4 points it gets a lot harder to calculate if you want to use it in anything that uses realtime processing.

idk why but when i subdivide the surface up to 4 the polycount doesn't augment at all ?? and after putting the texture and all it doesn't shape like a triangle when i touch the settings it stays hella round with some reliefs ? and after that when i press tab to change the mode it doesn't actualize? like it's in object mode and then the edit mode is just a sphere ???

I'm not certain how he got the white edges in the final render. BUT, one method for achieving the white edges in the viewport is to do the following: 1. In the top right corner of the viewport, click the solid white circle to switch the Viewport Shading to Solid. 2. In the top right corner of the viewport, to the right of the Viewport Shading options, click the down arrow. 3. Turn "Cavity" on by ticking the check box, and to its right, change the Type to "Both". 4. Just below that, in the World Space and Screen Space settings, adjust the values by dragging them left and right until you achieve the desired look. Happy Blending!
