Is there a way to combine this effect with a blurred version of the HDRI? Im thinking kind of similar to the controls in Substance painter. Where you can blur the HDRI background and also diminish it.

What about the reflection on the sphere?

If we hide the reflections on the sphere, there's no point in using a hdri as we are better of using manual lighting.

somehow the shader nodes didnt work? The tiles keep showing in final blender even thought i pretty much copy pasted what was on screen. any solutions?

I'm not sure if you still need it. But you have to uncheck transparent in scene>film. I made the same mistake :p
