I've been able to follow along for the most part, sometimes by switching keymaps to Blender 27x. I have cloth > physical properties > bending model set to linear too. right now, I'm in the last couple minutes of the tut and ran into an issue with how the flag reacts with the rope. still figuring out a fix, but the issue is the whole edge of the flag spazzes and clips into the rope edit, in case you or anyone else has that issue too: I saw one of Sardi's comments where he said try redoing it, so I went back to a safety file I had and retried connecting the flag. I cleared the cache and dissolved half of the edges I had cut (was 28 x 28 edges, now 14 x 14). by the time I made the safety file, I had already messed with the cloth sim settings and applied a subdivision modifier (and maybe one other mod, but idr what it was). it seems to work fine now

Hi thanks for the tut. A quick 911 question. I have a shot where I need to do a stretching effect, kinda like cloth but the fabric actually needs to stretch out. I am rendering this out in close up so I need to see the pattern stretch. I have done cloth in Blender before but I cant remember if you can get this stretching effect or how. Imagine spreading your fingers while holding pantyhose. With the gaps stretching further apart as you move your fingers apart. Any thoughts? Thank you!
@SardiPax8 жыл бұрын
I don't think the cloth simulation can do that. You can add tension up to the You may was to look at Shapekeys. If you Enable Dynamic Mesh in the Cloth sim then add shape keys to stretch the mesh, the cloth sim will still function where there is enough slack in the cloth for it to move.

Just an idea. What if you make a lower res rope and add hooks to couple verts. Then also add hooks to the linked to the other hooks. This way the high res curve will follow the lower res curve. I think that should work and takes less calculations, if im correct though

Oh good god I've been trying to make this work for the past five hours ... at least! Everything is great UNTIL I try to attach the flag to the rope and it just goes crazy, flapping about wildly. I've applied the scale ... I've made sure I'm clicking in the correct order ... I've made sure that the vertices selected rather than the objects ... it's driving me bonkers. Gaaaaaaaargh. I know this tutorial is almost eight years old, but it's the only one I can see that features an animated rope and I now have a bee in my bonnet and want to make it work for the sake of my sanity!!!
@SardiPax2 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick. Probably some defaults in Blender have changed since I made this one. Usually when cloth sims are causing problems, the best thing to do (sorry) is start again. Approach it by creating a less sub-divided 'flag' and rope at first, increasing as you narrow down on the settings. Without seeing the file it's hard to know what might be the problem. Sometimes the issues are related to the Cache file, so make sure you've completely deleted the bake and re-baked every time you alter any geometry.

Hi, nice tutorial very usefull but I got a question. Is it posible to parent diferent vertex of cloth to diferent objects?

Yes, you can do that, although I think there is a limit of 3 parented vertices.

Nice tutorials. I just want to know if I can parent entire stretch of vertices to the other moving object (in this case the rope)

Three vertices is the maximum other than the entire object. You could just have 3 vertices along one edge of course.

@@SardiPax I am looking for a solution for a parachute with the edge of canopy (the entire edge) to be child of the struts of the parachute. I don't want the gap between two like inshore a gap between the flag and rope ( between the pinned vertice)
@SardiPax5 жыл бұрын
@@lazylizarts You could animate the edge of the parachute with shapekeys, so just simulating the movement of the cloth. Alternatively, you can add multiple pinning pints for the cloth without actually parenting the vertices. You would need to animate the movement of the cords to follow any movement of the pinning points (again done with shapekeys).

HI SARDI This video is amazing!!! Is there a possibility to make it seamlessly looping?
@SardiPax8 жыл бұрын
Hi, in animation terms that would be quit tricky but a quick way is to find a point some way in that roughly matches some frames near the beginning then quickly fade between the two.
@Confuseddave7 жыл бұрын
Greg Zaal did a video on this for CG Cookie, but it is unfortunately behind their paywall: cgcookie.com/tutorial/creating-a-looping-cloth-simulation/ The technique outlined is pretty technical - if I remember it involved baking out and saving the simulated animation as a point cache, (.mdd file), meaning you can reload it as a series of shape keys (a large number of keys- one per frame!). Then you find two points in the animation where the model looks pretty similar, and join the loop together there. Since they're shape keys rather than frames in a rendered animation, you can blend the shapes together pretty well and it should look better than crossfading two rendered frames, but it might still look a bit weird if you can't find a closely matching keyframe.
@Confuseddave7 жыл бұрын
Rather than simulating the rope using a tube, I'd be inclined to simulate it as a string of vertices with no faces, and then use the solidify modifier to turn them into a volume. Also, if you want to go the overkill perfectionist route, rather than vertex parenting the flag to the rope, you could vertex parent two empties at the points you want the flag to connect to, and then use hooks to move the pinning vertices with the empties (which should match them to the rope).

Whenever I animate a character with a cape in Blender and when I make him move too fast, the cape literally stretches and even rips. Does the "bending" option for the cloth physics prevent that?
@SardiPax8 жыл бұрын
There are a great many settings for cloth but usually the problem is trying to move it fast. There should be a subframes option so try increasing that which will make Blender do more calculations per frame.
