Nice tutorial, learned some things about graph modifiers. The only thing which didn't really make sense (although it helped to show how to use custom properties and copy drivers) was that you animated the fluorescent lamps to flicker all the same. Normally this effect doesn't come from voltage fluctuations in the electric circuit (which might have an impact on all lamps at the same time) but instead indicates that the starter or other part of the lamp is slowly getting broke because of age or other reasons, and since all tubes have their own starter it would be highly unlikely they flicker exactly the same.

Great to hear there were some useful bits! And I almost added a section which was something of a disclaimer that this wasn't necessarily how they work in the real world, thanks for adding that info by the way! I actually set them all to have random unique light flicker at one point but it didn't really look as good, the few variations i tried anyway. The setup where some of them are synchronized seemed to be the nicer result, whatever 'nicer' means in this context anyway! I think in my minds eye I have a more supernatural ominous cause behind what's making the lights flicker and how they all fail at pretty much the same time. I don't know what that is, and maybe i don't want to know!! :D Aidy.
@gordonbrinkmann4 жыл бұрын
@@CreativeShrimp Yeah, in a setting like this I would always suspect some supernatural cause 😄 So I guess all flickering at the same time is okay. But the graph modifiers part was really interesting for me, I usually only use them for simple noise or cyclic animations.

Hahah funny how your outcome actually has an offset to all lights. But that could be easily done by adjusting each drive i believe. That looks much nicer that the synced lights

Does anyone else not know that the “home key” is? 5:38
@CreativeShrimp4 жыл бұрын
Ah, the Home and End keys on a windows keyboard would equate to Command-Left Arrow and Command-Right Arrow from what i hear, that may do the same thing for framing the view of whatever window your cursor is in to show any detail you might have in that window. Hope that helps! :) Aidy.

@@CreativeShrimp You can also use the scroll wheel to zoom in on where you placed the keyframe! :)

Anyone have any tips, I'm working on a short film And For one scene in particular it's 100% through blender, I can do all the assets and lighting but The scene involves a light source extremely far away from the camera and an entire city in-between, would I have to set a plane down and individually add in every building or could an HDR accomplish the effect while not making the Light source seem close up?

It's strange how tutorials can be inspiring and make you feel like you know nothing at the same time lol. I hope I can use this in the next.....ohhh idk, maybe 5-10 years? lol. I've always wanted to include a reference to AKIRA in something. And the light flicker, a very specific light flicker is the one I'd use. Cheers. I subbed.

I wonder wen and if Cycles or Eevee will get light cache. That is so nice to have. I got this in an old render engine i use now and then and so cool to play with light and relight the scene. Its super powerful, especially for Archviz. You can make multiple shots using different lighting from the same render.
@KodiSwandaOfficial10 ай бұрын
I am so mad. I spent over 3 hours perfecting a scene with lighting under the treads of a staircase. To make the modeling easier I duplicated the light to keep the right size and shape consistent. When I went to animate, I wanted the lights to turn on one by one going up the stairs like a sci fi scene, they all animated at the same time. Then I had to redo each light individually to get the animation to work

PS isnt copy as new driver / paste as driver easier? Though your method does learn people how to use it, which is good of course!
@jordanhenshaw Жыл бұрын
I don't know for sure, but I kind of think that half those steps, especially towards the end, could have been skipped and one could get the exact same result, but I may be wrong. Just seems like an overly complicated way to make a flicker.
