I grew some Black Sea Samsun and Small Stalk Black Mammoth in my garden and blended the two with only 1/3 of the mixture being Black Mammoth after the cure. I added some vanilla extract to the mixture and put in a closed container for a month. I then loaded my pipe and I was amazed at the outcome. I have (Never) tasted any store bought tobacco that good. No bite, smooth, and an extremely pleasant smoke. No moisture gathered inside my pipe like the way store bought tobacco's do a pipe. I only have to clean my pipe about once a month. Just for my own curiosity, this year I will add some burly that I will grow for myself. I also made my own pipes from cherry and hickory. I think I'm in smoking heaven. Any pipe tobacco that will gum up your pipe will also gum up your lungs.

I'm one of those potential pipe smokers. I'm 56 years old. always appreciated pipe smoking (the smells and the relaxing habit) and hated cigarettes. Had a professor in college who cut a piece of cigar and put it in his pipe bowl. Have you ever known anyone else to do that? Discovered your channel a few months ago. Didn't take long to join the club. Presently I'm making plans for my first pipe and tobacco purchase -perhaps in 2019. THANKS.

Great video! I agree with you, blending isn’t nearly as easy as it looks. But after a lot of trial and error (and wasted tobacco), I finally came up with something I really enjoy - 68% Bright Virginia (Sutliffe 507-C) 18% Turkish Izmir (C&D) 10% Latakia (C&D) 4% Perique (C&D) Not that it matters, but the Izmir, perique and the latakia were aged in mason jars for six years. The Virginia was aged a little over a year.

There's one tobacco that you forgot to mention, fire cured Kentucky! It immediatly struck my mind because it's one of the tobacco kinds that I know better, probably because I'm italian and here they make italian cigars only from kentucky (there's also a company that sells pure kentucky as pipe tobacco that is really strong, that I used to mix with some already existing blends); I think kentucky is a really good tobacco because it can be a base tobacco and also a condiment...

Hey MuttonChopPiper. Thanks for all the knowledge you share with us. I have learned a lot watching your videos and got plum pudding on your recommendation. You are right about the difference in palates. While I do like plum pudding, it is a good smoke, has some unique flavoring, it is not my go to for an every day smoke. I tend to find myself smoking it when I want to sit down with a dark strong flavored whiskey or even a really spicy flavored scotch. It tends to pair well. Again thanks for your content!

I am more of a hookah smoker but because I enjoy the natural taste of tobacco I have to make my own shisha tobacco for my hookah since they don't sell tobacco flavored shisha tobacco for hookahs anymore. But what I found tastes really good is a mixture of burley, sweet brightleaf virginia flue cured, oriental tobaccos, and a little bit of rustica tobacco for the nicotine kick here is the combination of tobaccos I use. 120 grams of Burley, 120 grams of sweet brightleaf virginia, 120 grams of Samsun oriental tobacco, 120 grams of Izmir oriental tobacco, and 120 grams of rustica tobacco. And this creates a 4:1 ratio of 1 part rustica tobacco to 4 parts of all the other tobaccos combined and totals 600 grams of tobacco.

Tobacco blending is a lot of fun. My favorite one is two parts 1Q, one part BCA, and one part finely ground tobacco from a Flor de Oliva Gold cigar. The 1Q ensures that the blend has a nice amount of sweetness to balance with the spiciness of the cigar tobacco. The BCA is mainly there so I don't use up too much 1Q, since that is my favorite tobacco of all time. I reserve this blend for my cob pipes, since the last thing I want is to ghost another briar.

Im not even using pipe tobacco but Mac Baren Choice Original rolling tobacco. I saw it in the same shop and i bought it as they all thought it was chocolate but it is actually caramel vanilla. I love it. Its not cut wide and short as pipe tobacco but thin and long like rolling. Doesnt matter to me i smoke it up well and its so good. I enjoy with beer or coffee. And i use that chinese cheap abs and metal bowl pipe for 7$ 😬 I clean up moisture with towel papers and plastic cable ties which are perfectly long and thin for that job. I usually do that after two smokes because moisture builds up after that.

It's funny I just stumbled across this. I'm fairly new to pipe smoking (~1 yr) and I made my first blend yesterday. I'm not exactly sure if I'll like it but it's a 1:1 ratio of 2 aromatics. C+D Espresso and Mark Twain Memoir. I'm blending a small amount because I just wasn't a big fan of either blend. Their smells are kinda similar so I figured I'd mix them to see if it's more enjoyable for me, rather than maybe getting rid of them. I'll try it in a month or so, and hopefully I remember to give the update here. Part of the reason I blended them was that I've found I'm not a big fan of mostly Cavendish aromatics, and I figure the other leaves in the memoir might balance out the goopy espresso Cavendish leaves. I guess we'll see!

Hey Muttnchop I just wanted to know if you could recommend a good briar pipe from Savinelli, suitable for entry or beginners? I would maybe like to go with one of the thicker bowl and a bit curved stem Been smoking for a month now and it has been a great experience, other than a few tongue bites from Mac Barens. But with your breathe method video changed the smoking experience drastically! Keep up the good work!

Ari Senpai - I would recommend the one I smoke it’s a Savinelli Porto Cervo Rusticated 121 Pot. It has a slight bend and thick walls and it’s a beautiful pipe. 👍👍👍

Hi, I checked it out, seems the Shortcut to Mushrooms is a blend of Black Cavendish and Latakia. No idea what ratios. Thanks for the video.

Do you know anything about casing or topping? I like aromatics and would like to try making one from base components. If not do you know where I might look for information? Thank you.

James Long one company sold a blend your own kit. They included food grade flavors in the kit, so I’m guessing the topping is mostly that. Don’t quote me on that, I’m not sure if that’s all. I also heard of honey and molasses

I tried to make a blend with some Latikia once lol..............shame on me lol, with music I insist on learning and getting good at every aspect as a musician.........some of my hobbies I need to just leave some aspects to the pros, like blending lol.

Hey Muttonchop, I'm going to be in Clarksville TN the third week of May for my 40th birthday and am planning on going on into Kentucky to tour a distillery or few. As a pipe smoker I'd like to know what tobacconist or tobacconists I need to visit while I'm there as well. Thanks!

Hey muttnchop, I was wondering what you thought of brands like prince albert and captain black. Im new to pipe smoking and thats whats locally available.
@MuttnchopPiper
@MuttnchopPiper 5 жыл бұрын
Misty Ice - They are OK, they are considered dime store tobacco’s, or pharmacy tobacco’s, both blends are inexpensive, but not cheap tobacco, they used to be, but the quality of these blends has improved in the last 10 years, so if it’s readily available you should be good to go. 👍👍👍

Misty Ice - it's amazing how good Prince Albert is for the money...it lights well, burns well, and tastes good. There's a reason it's been around for 100 years. There is a KZbinr I found with a massive tobacco cellar (it seems like he has everything to choose from), and he said the tobacco he smoked the most in 2018 was Prince Albert. That says a lot. I have several tobaccos now and Prince Albert is still in my rotation.

Sir. First of all i would like to thank you for sharing your experience. I'm a beginner and I want ask you about specific flavour. I tried amphora full aromatic. And I like it too much. But unfortunately it's not coming again to my resident country. So I'm asking which flavour exactly can I mix to get same flavour of amphora? TIA

Chris Hall - Ok, so here is how it goes, you smoke the January blend whenever you want during the month of January, about the 10th of February I will do a review, now you can smoke along with the video if you like, but you don’t have to, after you watch the video, leave a comment with your rating, and a short synopsis of what you thought of the blend. Continue this routine each month. 👍👍👍

By the by, how does one submit a recommendation for Blend Club Review?
@MuttnchopPiper
@MuttnchopPiper 3 жыл бұрын
Well here is the thing. I try to put together blends that are in bulk so people can purchase 1 oz. of, this is to be considerate of some people’s financial situation. Plus more and more often a lot of our club members are from over seas, so I try to include some blends that these people can get. Just leave a comment on any video and I should get it.

Mohamed Alannawy - That’s a personal situation you will have to work out on your own, my advice is this, if you still depend on your family for support, ( Housing, Food, Transportation) and if you think they may pull that support if they found out, then think long and hard if smoking a pipe is worth loosing that support. 👍👍👍

You didn't mention anything about enhancing the flavor of tobacco by pressing. I have seen several videos where people have created their own tobacco press. Whether stainless steel components and a large C-clamp, or 2" to 3" section of PVC, wood plugs and C-clamp. I have been told that even pressing an existing mixture of Virginia blends, the flavor would be enhanced. Comments appreciated.
