Blind ONE PIECE 1x2 REACTION The Man In The Straw Hat
Luffy, Zoro, and Nami are captured by Buggy the Clown, a pirate who has imprisoned the people of Orange Town in his own personal circus. Luffy manages to swallow the map before capture and learns of Buggy's ties to Red-Haired Shanks, Luffy's idol. Flashback reveals that Shanks had rescued Luffy from a mountain bandit named Higuma, but lost his arm in the process. Shanks gave Luffy his straw hat so that he can achieve his dream of being King of the Pirates. Buggy attempts to drown Luffy in a tank of seawater, but Zoro and Nami, spurned by Luffy's optimism, escape and rescue him. Buggy, who ate the Chop Chop fruit and can split himself apart, has his body parts locked in boxes as Luffy launches him away, freeing the town. Meanwhile, Coby meets with Garp who deduces that he was with pirates prior to joining the Marines, but allows him to stay due to his honesty. In turn Morgan is punished for lying about the attack on the base. While sailing away, Nami contacts someone about having the map in her possession.

Not really a spoiler, but that glare that Shanks used to scare away the Seaking wasn’t a devil fruit. Also the people that eat devil fruits are rejected by the sea and drown like an anchor when in it.

Good job at wording it properly, I’ve seen fans that straight out spoil EVERYTHING to reactors which know nothing about one piece. The whole point of the live action is to bring in new fans, it’s their choice whether they want to continue the journey that is one piece thru the LA or check out the anime after the season finale

Just gonna say this, every connection you've realize in the show is connected to the story. Everything is interwoven, everything and every word that is spoken is connected in the broader story of one piece. It's only when you realize and look back and see all the breadcrumbs along the journey will you realized how much of an amazing story One Piece is.

Makino explains to kid Luffy in this episode the drawback of Devil Fruits. You lose the ability to swim and seawater drains your strength, which means no Shanks does not have a DF. While DF’s are a big part of how people have powers in One Piece it’s not the only way to have super like seeming powers. Also the Luffy/Garp thing you learned in episode 4 is something that is revealed over 300 episodes deep into the anime. Just a tidbit of info for you.

Also noteworthy that devil fruits are extremely rare. Luffy notably stole an immeasurably valuable treasure. A couple people show up later who eat one. There is a decent amount of animal devil fruits. but I don't think the Straw Hats come across one in the entire story.

Kind of a fun fact: Buggy mentioning that Shanks betrayed him was a part of his introduction in the manga in 1997, and we only learned what actually happened (no spoilers) either late last year or early this year. The author keeps EVERYTHING in mind when writing the story, and he literally hasn't left a single plot thread unaddressed, no matter how small.

We know Shanks doesn't have a devil fruit in this scene because in the manga, he didn't even bother to take a ship, he just swims to rescue Luffy. If he can swim that means he has no devil fruit. Essentially he just freaked the hell out of the sea king xD "what about setting bits of him on fire" That would work yeah. So does punching, they buffed Buggy a bit in this fight because normally Buggy can only escape blunt attacks if he separates his body parts in advance. If you take him by surprise, he doesn't automatically avoid the hit while on the other side, if you cut him from behind it wouldn't work on him at all. He's kind of Luffy's opposite. Luffy is basically immune to blunt trauma but vulnerable to cuts, Buggy is vulnerable to blunt attacks but immune to cuts. "and then can we set the boxes on fire" Jesus Pyromaniac Christ you really want to set him on fire xD Especially for someone who wants him to be a recurring character ^^

I think the Devil fruit is designed to answer a bunch of questions similar to the questions superhero comics also need to answer. Where did all these people with superpowers come from? Why do they need a crew if they have superpowers? If anyone can get superpowers, why doesn’t everyone? To pirates, the most constant and ever-present danger is the sea itself. If you can’t swim, it’s deadly. You need to always be near people who can rescue you if you do fall in.

Yes, Shanks did use a special power to chase away the Lord of the Coast (the sea monster), but it wasn't a Devil Fruit power. Unfortunately, what that power is won't be explained for a few hundred chapters worth of manga (or, to estimate based on the pacing of the live action, around season six if it gets that far). The snails are called denden mushi or "transponder snails." As you guessed, they are used as phones in the One Piece world.

Spoilers..... I Its not that kind of betrayal. Buggy hated shanks cuz he has an inferiority complex, but he truly treats him as a friend. He asked shanks to create their own crew after their old crew got abolished and asked shanks to lead him to the one piece, but shanks said ge doesnt want to go after the one piece and just live a life like a pirate., buggy was furious and felt betrayed he trusted shanks and let go of his pride but shanks is not a big dreamer, at that moment in time.

Downsides to eating a devil fruit 1) You can't swim anymore, even if you're a Fishman. Being even partially submerged in standing water weakens you. Seaprism stone also weakens you. 2) You can only eat one fruit. Eating two would kill you. Spoiler below 3) There are three types of Devil Fruits. Luffy ate a Paramecia fruit(for now). They just give you a weird power. Zoan fruits let you turn into different animals. The Logia fruits are considered the strongest and lets you turn into and control an element(like fire, ice, magma, lightning, smoke).People who eat Logia fruit tend to get cocky because ordinary people can't even touch them in their element form. But, most high ranking pirates and marines have a skill called that's a hard counter. So, arrogant Logia fruit eaters tend to cross the wrong people and die young. FYI - Shanks didn't eat a Devil Fruit. He's a Haki master. Garp is too. Haki is that skill that allows ordinary people to fight Devil Fruit eaters. Their are 3 types of Haki. Shanks used "Conqueror's" Haki on the Lord of the Coast (the big sea monster). Conquerors lets you overpower people and animals with your will. You can learn the other two types. You have to be born with Conquerors. FYI2 - Haki sounds like hockey.

Didn't he board the boat from the dock... Then row it out after the dude that took luffy. Then he saw the sea monster destroy the bad dudes boat, he saw luffy fly into the water then he rowed his boat over and pulled luffy out of the water.
