Watch me build my new computer studio monitors. Over four months with what little spare time I have I managed to use some scrap Tasmanian black wood from my previous project and some reclaimed drivers from another previous project to build these studio monitors. A video on the sub woofer I make to pair with these will come.
On a side note, the sound test at the end is not an accurate representation of real life sound quality. My audio equipment is not nearly good enough to capture true to life sounds and I doubt your audio play back device (Most likely a phone) is of high enough quality to accurately play back what I have recorded.
Lots of inspiration taken from Kirby meets audio.
Crossover design also by Kirby in his Elder bluetooth speaker. You'll have to buy his plans for info on that.

Those look great! Can't wait to see the sub build for the 2.1 system, I also have the Dta 2.1 amp and it really works well for the price point and its size/footprint is perfect for a desktop scenario.

Right away you can hear the effect of mounting the drivers that way. Sounds like when you cup your hand over your mouth to yell louder.

My personal choice would of been the dayton nd 105 and a ribbon tweeter but thats just because it suits my personal taste in sound signature. Well done man.
@Blober112
@Blober112 6 жыл бұрын
Atergia having them set up now in my room I would agree with the tweeter. However these components are all reclaimed from a previous project where I failed building a battery powered portable boom box, so driver choice was a little out of the question hahah!

Reusing components is cost effective.Ive rebuilt cabinets using the existing drivers just because I wanted a different sound from the original build.

I haven't really heard anything besides the DA drivers I use but they sound rather good if you know what you're doing with them. I'm not audio purest or anything like that though

Since Dayton provides all the frequency/impedance tables it's very easy to simulate the build first. A lot of manufacturers don't provide FRD or ZMA files.

Nice process of building. Looks good. But can't understand this angle. And final testing means nothing without actual fr graphs. I've heard just overloading middle and highs. No bass. Do you use them with additional sub?
@Blober112
@Blober112 4 жыл бұрын
I'm only a beginner at this. I don't have any way to get graphs nor would I bother. These are average speakers and were meant to be paired with a sub that I was going to build but never got around to it because I used a sub that I had laying around and it didn't really fix it's low end issues
@khanoff13
@khanoff13 4 жыл бұрын
@@Blober112, it's not an issue at all. You can use REW for that. Room EQ wizard. Just reference condenser microphone. Or any other with wide sensitivity on full range.

Nice video man! One question: what is the size/diameter of the wire connnection that you used on the wire that connects to the binding posts on the inside of the cabinets?
@Blober112
@Blober112 3 жыл бұрын
I can't remember exactly, they don't pull many amps so anything over 20 gauge/0.50mm2 should do it. Better to go bigger than smaller

I can't take you seriously as a speaker builder. Recessed-mounting your drivers can look nice, but sounds awful, unless you actually implement certain horn profiles for the tweeter. This is one of the stupidest trends in audio that prioritizes looks over function.
