In this series, Coach Carl demonstrates how to apply the concept of blocking movement to clean up positions and facilitate skill transfer. We've seen this demonstrated with the Push Up progression already where we do that movement with the elbows in, and now it's time to take this concept to other movemnts to clean up your form.
In this video, Coach Carl and Courtney work cleaning up the Burpee by forcing the feet to stay together throughout the whole movement. They accomplish this by tucking and holding a Slingshot between the athlete's feet while doing the Burpee. While this significantly slows down the movement and may feel more difficult and more work, it will help the athlete focus on better mechanics and greater efficiency in both the hop back to the Push Up position as well as the hip snap-up back on to their feet.

Check out their tutorial called "Burpee Skill Transfer" (5 part series). It doesn't matter if the legs are close or apart, it's all about the hip drive. Leg placement is a matter of function. i.e. gymnast land feet together for their sport, crossfitters tend to land legs apart for olympic lifting stance. If you are neither choose either, just remember legs together is harder but no better or worse.

Well, a burpee consists of a Push ups transfered to a jump. Seperating those two movements and you are right about the push up. Keep a stable midline and don't arc in your back. That's proper push up form. However, when it comes to crossfit, and in competition especially, many people, myself included choose to "wobble" off the ground, simply because it's a much faster burpee that way. But if you are going for good form, I'd stick with your kind of burpee :)

So it is okay to allow the thighs to hit the ground and allow the spine to bend a little while doing the push up? I was told to have to back straight and don't let the thighs touch the ground as I do the push up portion of the burpees. So it just looked awkward watching her do it and I wanted to know if I was doing them wrong. It seems the form that I use it tougher. It doesn't seem like she is getting an effective push-up. But what do I know I am not a trainer. Thanks for your help.

Touch ground with thighs and chest and jump in full extension, opening your hip. Of course, people tend to be more in a160 degree angle with their legs and upper body, simply because it's faster. But to your question, yes this would qualify as a proper burpee. As for myself, I do not have my feet that close together due to effeciency reasons.

That's it! I prefer to be efficient when i am competing against the clock or against my partners... But for training, i prefer to do a harder, more-transition, more effort version. So when i face them being able to use my "bag of tricks", i'm better conditioned.

Soo what do you do when you can’t put your feet together?? I ended up with my feet apart because I can’t keep them together
