You don't have to fight in MMA to prove that you can fight. Michael Jai White fought in full-contact tournaments when he was young. You can tell from his display of his techniques that he has skills. No one is as good as they appear in the movies because movies are choreographed but White is a real Martial Artist with exceptional fighting ability.

It is just a shame this main actors movies never gets good funding when he is the main character. He is epic. Kimbo Slice was at the begining of this movie. :D He is a freaking tank. Takes a beating and deals a beating. He has to be the best legit street fighter. If not he still is a great one.

@MysticNinjaJay9 жыл бұрын
+David Carter Kimbo is tough and athletic but not a top fighter. Those street fights had rules. They were basically bare knuckle Boxing. MMA despite the rules is closer to a real fight. If you watch the Gannon fight Kimbo's people tried to interfere because they said he was breaking the rules. A world class MMA fighter beats a street fighter in a no rules fight easily because they know effective Martial Arts techniques and are exceptional athletes. It's hard to say who the best street fighter is because there are no rankings. Kimbo got famous through KZbin mostly because of his personality. He was intimidating and sounded cool. But he was was beating up untrained fighters. When he stepped up in competition in MMA he got destroyed because he did not have the skills to compete.

The art of fighting without fighting is a Bruce Lee line from Enter the Dragon. I know exactly what it means. Bruce was talking about using your mind to defeat your opponent. In the case of the movie he tricked a bully in to getting on a boat to fight him and left him stranded thus beating him without landing a single blow. I have been challenged on several occasions to a fight by guys who tried to intimidate me only to have them back down when I said yes. Same principle.

a strong and fast man vs a really strong man = strong and fast should win easily
@FabianR8732111 жыл бұрын
Merces Letifer I guess getting hit by a punch like that is pretty much a game over for anybody, your right. But you know the only thing is that the technical, fast guy who knows what hes doing, will never get hit by a 100%-strength haymaker right in the face. Also in real life people use jabs and light hooks more often, whereby the technical guy´s ones are often placed with far superior accuracy. If you search for "Pedro Sauer vs. Lance Batchelor" (Jiu-Jitsu vs. Bodybuilder) You´ll see a real life fight with relatively similar odds. The technical guy fights way better than the other guy. That video has a great narration btw. so its really interesting to watch. Jiu-Jitsu features a lot of ground fighting though, so don´t expect anything too fancy. :) Also, if you want, you can easily share your opinion with me on this matter because of the new comment system, which is why I just wanted to add that I´m starting to appreciate it.

I didn't see any capoeira inspired movements from Michael Jai White in this fight scene but I agree that the techniques on display are coming from a real Martial Arts master not just some guy who's skills were enhanced by movie effects. Now the camera angles, sound effects and choreography make White's fighting look even more spectacular but they supposed to! It's a movie. I don't see why anyone would insult the filmmakers for making the scene look too cinematic. That's their job.

Dear Haters: White was born in Brooklyn, New York and moved as a teen to Bridgeport, Connecticut, where he graduated from Central High School in 1985. He is an accomplished martial artist, holding seven different black belts: Shotokan, Tae Kwon Do, Kobudo, Goju Ryu with Master Eddie Morales, Tang Soo Do, Wushu and Kyokushin,with a specific focus in Kyokushin. White started martial arts training at the age of eight.

Michael Jai White is primarily a Karate practitioner. Jabbar is certainly not the only other Black man to showcase high level Martial Arts in movies.
@MysticNinjaJay12 жыл бұрын
True. And I think it's way off base to say that if you don't compete in a professional combat sport on TV that you are not a good fighter. Martial Artists including movie stars can be great fighters. Most of the top movie stars were discovered because they were exceptionally talented. Michael Jai White is a decent actor so he gets better roles than MMA fighters like Cung Le who are only good at fighting but he trains like a Pro himself and is an expert in various disciplines.
@MysticNinjaJay11 жыл бұрын
A kick to the nuts is a blow. Which interview are you referring to? I've never heard that. Bruce taught simplicity in movement but also that you should be prepared for any circumstances ready for whatever may come. So the fight could end in 1 sec or 10 minutes or more. You should be prepared for anything.

Just because you fight on TV for sport doesn't mean you are a superior fighter. Michael Jai White is not invincible. He could certainly lose to some of the top UFC fighters but he's not a chump just because he makes a living showcasing his skills in movies. Rampage Jackson actually consulted MJW to help him prepare for a fight with Lyoto Machida. White is in great physical condition and he's a serious Martial Artist who has mastered several disciplines.

Yes, he was in phenomenal shape. Keep in mind though that physical feats like doing one finger pushups, V-sits and demonstrations is not the same thing as having real fighting experience. Some people think Bruce Lee could beat modern MMA fighters. I don't think so. He might put up a decent fight but his fighting experience didn't compare to veterans of full-contact competition. I loved his movies but we have to acknowledge that he wasn't the characters he played on screen.
@shitmaister12313 жыл бұрын

@MysticNinjaJay12 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't be so sure of that. Michael Jai White is a high level Martial Artist who has been training all his life and continues to train with professional fighters. Bob Sapp was a football player who got involved in Kickboxing and MMA. He's got size and power but he lacks technique. White made his name as a Martial Arts movie star but he trained in full-contact competitions for years.
