The storytelling in this movie is so incredible! When Paco says “So what are you saying? It’s my fault the way everything turned out?!” And Cruz just responds with a look. No words, just stares at him and the whole audience has the same revelation at the same time Paco does. All the events of the film from the past 3 hours just come together back in one scene and all with a stare. This is brilliant filmmaking and should be studied

The whole main cast was good, but Jesse Borregos, Cruz, just shined in this movie. All of his scenes are so emotionally powerful. From his mannerisms to his words, whether yelling or stone silent, he really captures the essence of an artistic personality that had a tortured soul through his own reckless behavior with drugs. But in the end he comes full circle to realize the power of forgiveness and family and that even through their crazy lives the bond of family is what keeps them going. Borregos just knocked it out of the park in this movie. Wow!

Miklo forgave him because he realized it was destiny, destined to lead La Onda. He was the one who helped La Onda survive in prison so it was all meant for him to return. Cruz made Paco realize that his actions made things turn out the way they did. Think about it, Miklo stopped Paco from murdering Spider. If he didn't stop Paco then it would have been a different turn out. It was all destiny. That is one of the messages this movie sends out.

Sad that our brotherhood was lost as adulthood kicked in. All that remains is my other OG homie and our bond will never be broken. We are fighters like these guys sparring at the end too. I take it as...it was a pact from the beginning of the movie and as kids growing up in the gang lifestyle. Paco hated Miklo because he wanted everyone to get out (all three of them) after Paco had his wake up call...However Cruz makes Paco realize that it was actually a chain of events that led to Miklo becoming who he became. Yes it's Paco's "fault", but in turn it is actually the fault of gang life. You end up hating each other, especially after one sees a better route (Paco) and one continues down the same path (Miklo). This is also brotherhood. I grew up with older brothers and one who went down the drug and addiction route. I blamed him for it, however not knowing that it was our suffering and how we were raised that led him to that route. I thought I was better than him, but in fact just like Paco, I didn't see the more pain I was causing by not speaking with him. This scene is powerful. I'm a Mexican American who grew up in low-income poverty in NYC, and this (although different Mexican upbringing in states) still hits home because the mindset and cultural mentality of Mexican Americans is somewhat the same (when growing up in low-income neighborhoods).

As someone who is Black & White, extremely fair skin & raised around mainly Black folks & still live around mainly Black folks I know what Miklo felt. Miklo always felt that he wasn't Brown/Mexican enough because his folks were always using Miklo's skin color & his daddy's White blood in his veins to tease Miklo but his neighborhood had much love for him but Miklo took the teasing to heart & looked over the love. Miklo went to hard to prove to his folks & folks in prison how Brown/Mexican he was, so now Miklo being the head over 1000's Brown/Mexicans that make the body Miklo finally felt "truly 100%" Brown/Mexican and that no one would ever question it or tease him.

It’s crazy coming back 25 years later and watching this movie. This really was a classic. For hispanic community in the 80’s-90’s, this movie spoke to the culture so much. It was mom and dad, with traditional hispanic hardworking mentality. Working and saving, working and saving ( pulga on the weekends). Mom usually spoke no English, dads had broken English, but did alright. Kids with too much freedom running the streets reppin that gang life

Because Cruz was the artist he had the ability to see the deeper meaning in things. His analysis of Paco was spot on here. You never know how these characters end up after this and I know it’s fiction but hopefully Paco found a way to forgive himself and Miklo so he can look back more fondly on their upbringing. It was an amazing ride for all three. So much pain and triumph but it’s all a part of life. You gotta take it all and make peace with it. The good and the bad. No one controls everything and everybody and they all were just trying to survive in a fuckin warzone like Cruzito said, and they did.

This was a very powerful and underrated scene. I respect Paco for changing his life around, but at the same time he realized his mistake. Miklo idolized him and Paco goaded him into becoming a gangster. Unfortunately everything went bad for everyone, with Miklo going to prison disabled and Cruz's back being messed up and becoming addicted to heroin. Forgiveness is not for the other person, it is about you having peace for yourself. Also, forgiveness does not negate consequences; Miklo did some bad stuff, and even as head of La Onda, all the violence will come back to haunt him. Paco forgave Miklo, but that does not mean that he will continue to have a relationship with him, even though he is blood. Cruz really put it on Paco here.

When I’m feeling down and need a lift up I always come back to watch this scene. This scene has been one of my biggest lessons on guilt, resentment and forgiveness. When cruzito says “u need that guilt, it’s what keeps you going. Hey I know bro, I fed mine through a needle for 10 years” and paco breaks down in tears bc he realizes how much cruzito was suffering in silence and self destruction over the guilt of juanito’s death and he knows he wasn’t there for him, he abandoned his brother when he needed him the most. Cruzito forgives him and encourages paco to do the same with miklo. Because it is true what Cruz says: it’s (referring to guilt, and resentment) f***ing poison. Because sometimes the hardest person to forgive is yourself. ❤
