I was diagnosed with 170/105 by a life insurance blood and blood pressure check. Went to emergency and they put me on 10mg of medication once a day. My pressure would drop and rise to the same level at night while I slept. Started taking 5mg before bed time 10mg in the morning.Three weeks later I’m taking 5mg in the morning and 5 mg at night. Pressure going down gradually. Every morning I drink a frozen beats and fruit drink every morning and it fills me up and gives me tremendous energy. Way better than donuts and coffee. eat plain nuts, chicken breast, vegetables, water, and artery unclogging home remedies I found on KZbin. Lean beef once a week. Sliced thin and mixed with vegetables(fajitas). Now at 120/80. No sugar, no salt and non fat milk(nasty).Don’t eat any outside food due to the sodium. Using Potassium salt on my food and Splenda for sugar. This morning was 120/80 with no medication yet. I will monitor it until it crosses the the 80 and I’ll take 5mg. Listen to this doctor and eat healthy. Walk everyday at least 40 min. We can do it!!! Thanks doctor.

Dear Dr Joe this is Michael Hickman from Durban South Africa, what great advice. I have had atrial fibrillation since 2000. More recently I developed chronic high blood pressure for which I was taking more and more tablets with no effect. I am not over weight, I do not smoke, i drink close to no alcohol and keep reasonably fit. Last Christmas a friend of mine who is one of the pioneer heart transplant surgeons recommended some lifestyle changes and to slowly identify which tablets worked and which did not and to stop taking those that were not having a positive effect. immediately the blood pressure started to drop. I now make a daily drink of turmeric, ginger, milk,carrot and beetroot juice which has further lowered my blood pressure allowing me to once again reduce the number of tablets taken. A few days ago I read about breathing exercises which have immediately again drastically lowered my blood pressure. The pretty woman is not me she is my partner.

What can I say other than to shout Congratulations on your achievement, Hlengiwe. Very well done. You're also living proof that natural therapies do work. And please continue with the healthy lifestyle - the not smoking, not drinking, not gaining weight and keeping fit. They all help to keep your BP down. Well done again.

that's cool. do you have the other risk factors. one of my friends is combining a keto type diet with interment fasting but i'm so confused if thatsvall safe. Sounds it. in his case, his DNA comes from india and artery clogging is the risk factor he's worried about. Another co-worker, who is white is skinny fat and had a heart attack, reduced sodium and eats more fiber. no clue how that helps or what meds he takes.
@drjoetvMD5 жыл бұрын
@@gejost Yes, keto does seem to help some people overcome their insulin resistance. Intermittent fasting certainly does help. I do it and still do it. There are different approaches and some work for others but not the rest. I have friends doing keto but my advice to them is; even if it is working for you, please keep an eye on your blood lipids because keto is essentially a fatty diet and some people don't handle their lipids very well. He should check his blood lipids every 6 months, if keto is his thing. Your skinny fat friend is doing the right thing. She's skinny on the outside but fat on the inside. Upping her fiber intake is a great way to deal with her visceral fat. Ask her to eat more pulses too.

I've been in the health and fitness industry for nearly 30 years with an emphasis in functional medicine the last 5 years and I use to have an obsession of checking my blood pressure even though I don't even have high BP. I'm 54 and my morning BP averages about 95/60 and my evening BP averages about 110/70. I am 5'8" and weigh 160 pounds about 14% body fat. My clients ask me all the time what do I do to keep my BP so good and I tell them I grew up in sports, never been overweight, never smoked, never drank alcohol, and really never ate red meat. I just recently cut back on grilled chicken and started doing more greens, vegetables, and certain fruits as I am doing a liver detox and the less meat you eat the better it is. One thing I do recommend to my own clients is taking 2g of Nordic Natural Omega 3s per day along with 12mg Astaxanthin to prevent fat/cholesterol oxidation. I also recommend a mixed tocopherol/tocotrienol vitamin E (400IU), liposomal form of vitamin C (1000-2000mg) per day, and I strongly recommend two ounces of beetroot extract, 1 ounce of pomegranate extract, and 3500mg L-Citrulline to act as a natural vasodilator. Also, if you suffer from anxiety then YOU MUST take 100mg of Doctors Best Magnesium Glycinate 4X per day with meals and I almost guarantee it will work miracles for you when it comes to calming down the sympathetic nervous system. As a matter of fact if I start to feel anxious I can take 200mg with 8 ounces of water and feel completely calm within 30 minutes! This is my go-to miracle pill for anxiety and I recommend it to all my clients with magnificent results. And, like Dr. Joe said, STOP checking your BP. One time I checked it and it was what I thought was a little high at 130/80 and about freaked. I checked again and it was in the 150s. Checked again and it jumped to 172/95. This was just 2 years ago and I went to the ER because of a major panic attack. At the ER it was 180/100. Needless to say my hospital visit was over $20K because they ran so many tests on my brain, heart, etc. and all was fine. I basically freaked myself out. So, now if I start to feel anxious - especially after eating (which I contributed to mild constipation and a sluggish gallbladder), I take 200mg of my magnesium glycinate and I calm right down. I don't dare check my BP because I already know what will happen! After cutting back on meat of all kind and increasing my vegetable and fruit intake my anxiety has lessened dramatically. Goes to show you how your gut function has so much to do with the parasympathetic/sympathetic nervous system. Hope this helps someone and thank you for your video, Dr. Joe! Keep up the good work.

i am at the point i refuse flat out to monitor my chronic hypertension as these monitors with THEIR automatic inflation...then stopping THEN MORE INFLATING action had me WILD and of course the readings were off the wall-searching for the traditional sphygmomanometer did get results but the cost is still out of reach-i am fortunate that at the moment a well seasoned/experienced doctor understands that the patient knows when the blood pressure skyrockets,i went to the office a couple of times/week to get it checked the "old way" to establish how good or bad the medications are working-am OK for now as long as there are NO spiking incidents -fortunately i do NOT get any rapid pulse response,chest pain etc what will happen IS BAD as vision literally gets cut off--i do juicing,etc and now returned to a water fast as that has proven to lower the pressure and some how I feel better without eating-LOL

Im so happy I found you today I want to cry. The doctor wanted to send me to the hospital today due to my BP 188/118. My BP always shoots up when I go to the doctor. Ive been in therapy for anxiety for 5 weeks now due to some things that have occured. My BP was going down really well then shot back up. When I say shot back up, I mean averaging 140s/90s. Ive been taking my BP at least 9 times a day, and although I had the numbers for the doctor, they still wanted me to go to the ER. That gave me more anxiety, and I started crying in the office. Smh. When i left and arrived home, my BP was down to 160/101 due to the anxiety at the office. I waited, took a deep breath....133/93. I could go on with this story, but God had you pop up in ny video feed. I was stressing so bad. I lost 12 lbs in the last 35 days just by changing my eating habits, exercising, sleeping, and going to therapy. Thanks for helping us! Oh yeah, I notice that when I go days or a week without checking my BP, it goes down. I can't keep obsessing about this. I take COQ10 in the form of Ubiquinol, krill oil, and I drink beet root powder at night.

Everything you say is true - anxiety attacks do raise the bp. It is just like when you go to the doctor, the bp reading is always high; I used to call it 'white coat syndrome'. People have to stop obsessing about hpb. I used to be very conscious of it but now I do not anymore. Instead as you said, focus on lowering the risk factors and all will fall in place. I wear a smart watch which checks the bp also so once a day I will check it and it is normal. Thanks for your detailed explanation Dr. Joe.

Thank you Dr. Joe, I was recently diagnosed as hypertensive and I went through that phase but now i've gone from that extreme to not checking at all for fear and frustration of not seeing the BP reading that I want...🙁
@drjoetvMD3 жыл бұрын
You don't need to check that frequently. Here is the thing. If you are doing all the right things, your BP will improve unless your BP has hit your kidneys badly where you are now CKD stage 3 or 4 or 5. Even if you are CKD stage 2, you'll still do very well. So long as you are on track, your BP will improve and you'll develop the confidence to check your BP. Your 1st reading may be somewhat high from anxiety but when you are confident, your 2nd check in the same BP check session will be better and your 3rd too

Great video! Although I was only checking it 3 times a day, I WAS worrying and thinking about it too much. Normally a little self-hypnosis and deep breathing gets to back to normal on the rare occasions it spikes high, but it got bad for a week after a trauma was triggered. After watching your video I feel MUCH better - I have NO risk factors and already quit smoking and heavy drinking decades ago. Time to stop worrying and go back to enjoying life and healing other issues like fibro pain. I wish more doctors had your attitude!

@drjoetvMD5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Glad you saw the logic and rationale behind what I am saying there.
@drjoetvMD5 жыл бұрын
@@kaye3543 The only way to equalize blood circulation to lower your blood pressure readings will be through exercise. There are some exercises that favour blood pressure reduction and I shall be talking about them sometime soon. As for Cayenne tea, there's a chance it could reduce blood pressure. I haven't tried it myself but because cayenne peppers have potassium, it should work in theory. Cayenne tea is just a little too spicy for me though, so it's not one of my favourites. Especially when there are non-spicy alternatives that should help with BP reduction.

The last time I checked it was 145/96 😥😥 it scared me so much I started exercising right away after checking it, and this was about a month ago. I haven't checked since then. I just changed my diet completely since that day. I stopped eating processed foods and increased my potassium intake, I exercise and try to get adequate sleep, although it's hard with small children. I do a lot of deep breathing when stressed and listen to guided meditation for stress and anxiety. I also take hawthorn berry as my blood pressure medication instead of the regular medication.
