So I know not about blood pythons, but I do know about water bowls...take one plastic tub put a couple of holes into the bottom of it and half bury it into the bedding, take a second tub and place it into the first tub then top it with water. The bedding stabilize the water "dish" , keeping the animal from tipping or moving/sloshing the water. Using two nested tubs allows you to remove fouled water tub without having to re dig it back into place....great vid, just subbed

Heat mats are based on convection. Ok for baby snakes. Not adult bloods. Use a front opening Viv or secure the ceramic/heat bulb. Heat mats are great for heating hatchlings/neonates. And breeder insects. That's absolutely it. Well good for plants in cold climates too.

So say your room temp is around 82- 85. Would I need a heat mat then? They will be in the same room as balls and retics? These will be my first bloods

I would use one as it will allow your blood to select its desired temperature. We like to allow the snake to thermoregulate to their desired temperature.

I just bought my first blood python and I'm pretty sure it has a neurological disorder. It flips his head upside down and just keeps flipping itself over and over. His head just keeps turning over like he's writhing in pain. I've only had him two days but I'm returning him. Are neurological disorders common in blood pythons?

Please put a thermostat on all heat mats/pads to not allow it to get too hot and burn the snake’s belly

Some videos I’ve watched they keep the enclosure wet. I’d assume the humidity is 90-100% how prone are they to respiratory infections?
@ColdBloodCreations6 жыл бұрын
I would never keep them wet. Way to easy to get skin blisters. Never had a RI with a Blood, but we never let em drop below 83 degrees and keep humidity up or use a humidity box like we suggested in the video.
@devinmathewson95646 жыл бұрын
Thanks my tube is 90% humidity I have tons of holes in it so the air doesn’t get stagnant. I’m using forest floor/ aspen. And I have a big water bowl in it.

65-75% humidity is plenty and can increase it a bit when they go into shed

I heard the heating pad is a no no. My blood python burrows. I put the heating pad on the side of the tank. I'm nervous of it being cooked if it sleeps on the heating pad at the bottom of the tank.

If you're worried about that, I'd suggest using a thermostat for the heat pad.

@@ColdBloodCreations awesome advice. I was going to do that. Any suggestion on what I should set the thermostat to? First snake so I just want to make sure it's safe and comfortable.

18:48 Minor correction, there ARE poisonous snake species. Rhabdophis tigrinus is one example. And yes, i know they dont start out poisonous. They become poisonous by eating toads. However, poisonous mothers can pass their poison to the offspring, thereby creating Rhabdophis tigrinus born poisonous. Also its a genetic trait that was evolved for their survival, so you cant say its just a byproduct of their diet. Its an inherent function of their species.

A heat pad isn’t going to do anything for ambient temps. So better have your room at about 80. Most people don’t so both heating is crucial
@ColdBloodCreations4 жыл бұрын
That's not true. Just ask anyone who has had a thermostat fail. The heat tape will raise the ambient temp. to deadly levels. Heat pads do in fact raise ambient temps, and especially if their is sufficient humidity in the terrarium.
@jessecrichton29434 жыл бұрын
@@ColdBloodCreations I have had them fail and the heat pad get up to 114. Which is insane but even that didn’t raise ambient temps much. I guess everyone’s situation is different
