To add more info, all new science shows that eating more healthy fats such as avocados helps your body burn more fat and not gain weight. However, like anything if you aren't watching your processed sugar intake or intake of other processed carbs you could gain weight. It's those sugars and processed carbs that lead to unwanted weight gain, not FAT!

Have you tried to substitute spinach with something else? Store-bought spinach is tainted with pesticides. I have homegrown swiss chard which tastes amazing but not sure how it will be in the smoothie.

I dont know that coconut water adds anything special. Its juice the juice strained from coconuts no coconut in it. Think the almond milk would work better.

@@yes350yes I couldn’t find coconut water, so I used unsweetened almond milk (no vanilla). It tasted good. By the way, I found veggies in it was terrible. So my adjusted recipe was blueberries, almond milk, avocado, banana, peach, golden kiwi, red grapes. The end result was awesome.

I do something similar. Chia is way too high in phytic acid and lectins. Spinach is way way way too high in oxalic acid. I use 1/2 or 2/3 of a frozen banana, one small frozen avocado a scoop of collagen powder, and some kind of low fructose fruit, like blueberries -- and maybe some stevia. It makes an amazing smooth, creamy soft ice cream. Freezing the avocado and the fruit first, changes the texture for the better. Adding the collagen helps. And, of course, it is quite cold like ice cream which is very pleasant during the day in the summer.

Whaynna Araugo I don’t suggest that only because the berries might not be enough to sweeten it to your liking. Maybe add in frozen pineapple if it’s not sweet enough with coconut milk.

Have you tried the frozen avocados? I use them and they have my smoothie so creamy. And I use flax seeds instead of the chia seeds. Great recipe

Due to the number of carbs/sugars in the Coconut Water will sub that out, also I use frozen avocado (doesn't go bad like fresh avocados do) other than that great smoothie. Thanks.

Actually you do not need organic chia seed but for sure, you should use organic blueberries and spinach. The get more nutritional benefit from spinach, cook it for 30 sec in the microwave and then toss it in the blender. I also recommend to squeeze a lime or half s lemon in the mix.

I make a similar shake with kale, blueberries, nutritional yeast, alternate between spiralina and wheatgrass Juice powder, fermented coconut water, plain water, nut or seed milk for the liquid, and liquid stevia to sweeten. Often times I’ll add some fermented nut or seed yogurt I make. I generally prefer not adding avocado to my shakes.

Chia seeds are high in lectins so avoid if you have any gut or autoimmune conditions. Raw spinach is high in oxilates that can cause kidney stones so lightly steam before adding to your smoothie.

Samanta Jimenez I wouldn’t use regular water unless you had more berries or maybe even cherries to sweeten it up. This is a relatively lower sugar smoothie compared to most so the coconut water makes is just sweet enough with its natural sugars.

earth angel yes but it’s loaded with so many electrolytes that are great for you the relatively little added sugar isn’t bad in my opinion.

Awesome video, awesome recipe, one quick question if you don't mind: wouldn't it be better if we had first soaked the chia seeds for about 10 minutes with some of the coconut (or water ) liquid used in this recipe before blending everything up ? That way we "unlock" the full potential of the chia seeds. Just a thought / question. Please let me know .. Thank you.

Charles Bovalis yes you could certainly soak them for a creamier consistency and to make them easier to digest. If you forget or don’t want to wait this is the faster option I guess!

It is recommended that you soak your Chia and not use them dry because it has a tendency to cause dehydration except you plan on taking a lot of water through out the day. Hope this helps after 3years. lol

Best in my opinion is a Vitamix but I've heard good things about BlendTec and Ninja as well. I bought a much less expensive refurbished Vitamix on Amazon for about $300 and it's still like new.

Autumn Mist I use it in this one because it adds good natural sweetness. So many smoothies are loaded with sweeter fruits you can get away with almond milk.

Autumn Mist also if you’re diabetic I recommend talking with your doctor to understand what amount of sugar is ok. This has about 20grams, and 35-40 per day is what’s recommended for healthy adults.

karlie torrey blueberries have a stronger taste in smoothies & combine well with avocados so you could add mixed berries but trust me blueberries will give it a better taste bc usually when you add mixed berries to smoothies the taste of the blueberries will be cancelled by the taste of the raspberries

Hi I usually soak my chia seeds (2t) with dried fruit, oats & almond/coconut milk adding cinnamon & turmeric & ginger and eat that in the morning. If I made this at night to allow chia seeds to soak, what ratio would I use to be able to drink it smoothly the next day? Is there a health benefit difference when you choose to not soak or soak your chia seeds? Thank you!!

Maryann Stahl soaking is a great way to digest the chia seeds more easily and get smoother smoothies. I usually soak 1/4 cup seeds to 2-3 cups water which makes quite a bit. Then use 4-5 tbsp. of the chia pudding in your morning smoothly. Cheers!

nicoll chen yes but likely only for one to ensure you’re getting more diversity in nutrients. This is surely loaded, but too much of a good thing could lead to deficiencies.

Hey Gorgeous, just tried your recipe, delicious. I live in a small market so the chia seeds were only in a large container. Had I known I already have flax seed which I use everyday, but it is what it is. Ive already been doing Keto for a while but had interest in finding a smoothie. @@elizabethkrenke hi I tried it with cocanut milk and it can out tasting like water..i like when it tast a little sweet and that didn't happen..What did i do wrong??? PLEASE HELP!

Joy Peters I’ve not made this with plant based milk as it would be much less sweet but you can always try it! And I would ask your child’s doctor if they recommend this for a toddler.
