You go through the "terminal" direction really quickly. For those of us who aren't familiar or have never used that, can you help out?? I have gone to terminal, pasted the command with the "macOS" at the end but have no idea what to do after that. I think it is important to remember with these instructions, that not everyone is as familiar with the commands and terminology as someone that has done it many times like yourself. Thanks

Have you read the update instructions at bluebus.dev? When using the app there is very little need for terminal commands.

@@E39Source What "app"?? I have read the instructions numerous times. I download the file, and than says safari can't open it since there is no application to do so. I am sorry, I know I am a partial idiot, and can figure most things out, but you guys go thru this and assume most people have a CS degree. Frustrating.

@@davesvarczkopf Visit this website: github.com/tedsalmon/BlueBus/wiki/Firmware-Upgrade Then, under "Firmware Upgrade" click the link for macOS. Safari will download the application to wherever you have it configured to do so (downloads folder, usually). Then launch terminal from macOS. Paste this: chmod +x ~/Downloads/BlueBus_Firmware_Tool_macos. Then follow the rest of the instructions.

I agree - perhaps the most crucial part of the process is glossed over very quickly. I had an issue in which I downloaded the software as directed, and copy&pasted the code in Terminal as directed. However, my Mac did not respond. After a bit of self-troubleshooting, I noticed that the code that we're supposed to copy&paste will direct (Mac users) the computer to specifically the "Downloads" folder and look for the specific file name of "BlueBus_Firmware_Tool_macos". My problem was that my Mac does not default downloads to the "Downloads" folder - mine go to the Desktop. Additionally, the file I downloaded came with a different name than "BlueBus_Firmware_Tool_macos". (it had that followed by '_v_v_v_3' or something like that.) Once you download the Firmware Tool, rename it if necessary to EXACTLY "BlueBus_Firmware_Tool_macos" and make sure it's in EXACTLY the "Downloads" folder. Your Mac still may not want to open it because it's from an unidentified developer. If this happens, go to your Mac's System Preferences, then Security & Privacy (the icon looks like a lock in the shape of a house), once you're there, then make sure you're in the "General" tab. Toward the bottom, there will be a notification that the BlueBus software is trying to open but is being prevented. There should be a button next to it that reads "Open Anyway." That will open it and you can proceed with the instructions from the video above/directions online. (You may need to press the orange lock in the bottom left corner to change settings - use the password you log into your Mac with.) Once the file is in the “Downloads” folder and the name of it is "BlueBus_Firmware_Tool_macos" (or whatever is on the end of that code that you copy from the website), Open the Terminal App. This is where Ryan is using the Spotlight Search 2:31 (more details on this below). Once Terminal is open, you’ll see a very plain text box. Paste the code in there and press enter. This will begin running the Program/“App”/System that will take the new software and put it on your BlueBus. From here on out, the video is clear and straight forward. I hope this helps! Additional notes: -For Mac users, you’re not supposed to press Command and Spacebar (that brings up Spotlight Search) and paste the code in there - not going to work. When he does that 2:31, he’s searching “Terminal” to bring up the Terminal App on your Mac. When you get to this part, search for Terminal and open it THEN paste the code into it and press enter. (The second time Ryan uses Spotlight Search 2:43 is to locate the BlueBus app that he ALREADY downloaded and installed. That part is not applicable to those of us who are doing this for the first time.) -I had to get a new MicroUSB - USB-A cord because the one I had was for power only and did not transmit data. If the Firmware Tool doesn't find your BlueBus device, try a new cord.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I have been struggeling with bugs for so long now :( I actually found the installer somehow, but i was never able to find new software versions and did not know how to use the installer!

@@tass2001 As far as i have seen now, a lot of them seem to have been fixed in new software versions, as i am still running the original version. I have a E39 with a Business CD Radio. Current bugs i can think of right now are: Metadata is displayed in Bordcomputer instead of the Bordcomputer. Bluetooth overlay is overwritten with CD-Changer overlay when using steering wheel buttons. Bluetooth overlay is displayed in CD mode from time to time. Clock gets removed from time to time. But as i said, i think some bugs seem to have been fixed according to the changelog. I'll update my unit soon. Also i would like to have the ability to adjust the bluetooth volume level, as my phones bluetooth is fairly quiet and i have to turn the volume very high. As soon as i switch modes again the other modes are way too loud.

@@DiRT3Xbox360 - Ah, yeah the MID UI was revamped in 1.1.15. What kind of phone do you use? It is not possible to change the BlueBus gain from the MID UI yet, you'd have to do it from the BlueBus terminal...

Thank you for the tutorial! Although bluebus provides an executable for Windows, my Win10 laptop couldn't recognize the device after several attempts. I ultimately used my Mac to get the update done in less than 5 minutes.

You might have needed to try to force windows to install the device via device manager.

What about the navigation system? Is there any chance to make it merge with smart phone data through bluebus?

I'd need to talk to the developer of the product, but I doubt it. The MKIV is reading the DVD for map data.

@@E39Source At less sir if it possible, a dedicated module with USB port enough saying it should run better than DVD disc. Don’t know what I should say man! To be frank. BMW digital version of navigation systems are considerably “ Top Notch “ my only concerns circles around the DVD unit… too much headache in such era.

@@E39Source my apology sir for the frivolity. I was referring to CD/DVD unit not to the MKIV computer. No doubt as you’ve mentioned in our nowadays smartphone superiorities. Once again sir, if there any chance to set such debate with the developer so he might figure out. How to modify or upgrade sort of a ports unit that probably communicate through BlueBus or at less allowing update navigation versions via USB flash without relying on CD/DVD hardware.🙏🏻

The CD/DVD unit is the MKIV computer, in the trunk. @@Second.Q The map data comes from DVDs/CDs put in the computer, so without re-writing all the navigation computer code the BlueBus is not going to be able to provide the map data. There also ins't enough storage space on the BlueBus to accommodate the map data.

The one you're getting will have 1.1.16 on it. 1.1.17 hasn't officially been released as there are still bugs with Internationalization.
