Optometrist here--Peep sights have an advantage not present with V notch / Buck-horn sights. If you wear distance ophthalmic lenses ( eyeglasses) there is a significant advantage to peep sights. To learn if this applies to you and you wear distance eyeglasses, do this simple test. 1)Take a scrap piece of cardboard and poke 1 roofing nail hole in cardboard. 3) find a suitable target 9 (deer sized target) 100 yards away. 4) Remove your eyeglasses 5) view distant target with just naked eyes ( no eyeglasses) 6) view distant target through hole in cardboard---If your vision of distant target is better through hole in cardboard, you might just love your first peep sight.

I have the H001L carbine and I chose the 'non' drill/tap method and found I get perfect elevation (with room for adjustment) with this setup: Skinner Rimfire Peep Sight (12mm) attached to the rail HiViz Front Sight HHVS001, with .420” high dovetail insert. At 25 yards I'm bang on with some play either way. I had to measure and test this and I must say it was a PITA, but I hope this helps anyone else that wants an out of the box solution instead of drill/tap. Now to figure out my 336 ! Great vid Buffalo!

I agree with the praise for Skinner sights. I have them on my old Marlin 1894 CB L and also put them on my Henry H001T .22. I did the Marlin some time back and purchased the rear and suggested front sight, but found the factory front was spot on with the rear. With the Henry, I did not order the taller front sight and again the rear lined -up spot on. My Henry does appear to have the better front sight as compared to what is shown in video. My rear sight on the Henry is one full turn above bottom. Excellent product for sure!

Buffalo's Outdoors Well you couldn't go wrong there. I've had very positive experiences with Andy Larsson of Skinner sights. His company is as I'm sure you know is out in Montana. I put my sights from him on my big boy before Henry started selling I think , a couple of models with his sights on them. I congratulated him and he sounded very pleased to hear that. He's very helpful and honest. I would recommend his products and costumer service to anyone. Hey, could you do a review on the Ruger Blackhawk 357 convertible? I'd much appreciate it. Best to ya.

It sure seems the manufacturer is expecting gunsmiths to install these. I'm curious how you layed out where to drill the holes, got everything centered and all that now! Looks like you got it right.
@buffalosoutdoors7 жыл бұрын
I'm a sheet metal guy by day. So laying out and drilling holes is part of the job. The receiver cover has a row of small ridges running the length of the scope rail, the middle groove in between the odd number of ridges served as my center line. I just lined the sight up where I wanted it and used an automatic center punch in the center of each hole to mark where I wanted my holes and to serve as a drill start. I free handed the holes with a palm drill which is why I didn't do a "how to" video, most people should use a drill press, I didn't want to be blamed for someone jacking up their receiver cover. Once the holes were in it was just a matter of using a little cutting fluid on the tap and keeping it square and plum while cutting the threads. A word of caution though, that receiver material is soft!
@taofledermaus7 жыл бұрын
It's really hard to film doing something like and concentrating on the task while trying not to bump the camera or block the view. I bent a LOT of sheet metal in my days - ductwork mostly - but I still have the scars to prove it. lol

Ur steady hands r amazing in all ur videos. For drilling and tapping, using a vertical milling machine w a DRO would b the best way vs. a hand drill or even a drill press. But for the tap- ping operation, i must b very careful using the quill handle w my rt hand pushing dwnwrd n turning the chuck w my lft hnd. I back up the quill to free the tap entirely to remove the chips n coat the tap thread w tap cutting oil etc. The trick is u don't want to bend the tap or get the chip clogged up in the hole and twist break the tap inside the hole!!! At times, i rather use a special tap-press for smaller threads, like 00-90, 1mm tap, etc. since i can feel the tap better. A gunsmith probably does the same as above. A DRO on the mill w the indicator r important to center and locate the holes. These r just fundamental machining practice anyway! Yes, the peep sights r the best iron sights. Most accurate. But nowadays, the riffles doesn't come w any iron sights and i just feel short changed. Scopes r not for every occasions and for everybody and every guns!!!

Hello, I know this is an older video, but I’m just wondering if you’ve still got this, and how it is set up. I took the plunge and bought the Small Game Carbine with Skinners. Like you, the rear sight is bottomed out, and I’m still hitting high. Seems like Henry would have accounted for this better ( I have the octagon barrel and factory Skinners). I haven’t tried it any further than 25 yds, maybe it will be more on at 50. Anyone else out there have experience with the factory-installed Skinners?

I'm skeptical about the method they used for windage adjustment on the skinner sight. Seems like it wouldn't be very bump resistant. In my experience, bolting/screwing anything down with a square shoulder screw, the thing you're bolting down tends to wander from the rotation of the screw before it snugs. I ordered this sight for my H001 thinking it was fixed windage, so I guess I'll find out when it arrives.
