Just a reminder due to some confusion. If you have a diamond shaped key, only key #1 can use the OEM remote. Diamond shaped keys do not have a separate transponder, it is on the keyless remote. A valet key or the older keys have a separate transponder.

Thank you for your video. I have a 2002 BMW X5 and I want to order the second upgraded key fob you presented. I also possibly damaged my transponder or the bracket to hold the battery (don't know how to use my solder to melt it back together) and so ordering a new chip seems more logical. Which system or key fob do I need to order and from where do you suggest? Thanks.

Does the MHZ matter when choosing a key? I notice that there are some of the same keys with different mhz. I also have the older key before the diamond shape. One big bmw button (rubber) and the unlock and trunk button below it. I should be able tonuse any fob correct?

Hi, your videos are great!! thanks. I recently bought a Z4 too with 1 key and was told by the seller the battery of the remote needed replacing, I did that and reprogrammed in car but still nothing. Is there anyway I can check if the key chip is in fact linked to the Z4? or did the previous owner just get the blade cut (which im beginning to suspect...)

Make sure you're doing the right programming procedure. If the remote can't link then it can be the battery. The chip isn't locked to the vehicle, it can program to any similar vehicle. Try having the key on a toothbrush or wireless charger for 10 minutes to see if it wakes up.

I followed your other videos (random key programming) for the programming procedure and also some other methods which still not working. I charged the battery on the toothbrush charger and measured voltage at 2.7v and still nothing. I will try another key to see if it programs to my car. I have an 03, 530i with the diamond key. I would love to upgrade my fob I understand how the fob works and how to program it but how does the key work to start the car? Do I have to takeout someplace special to get a new blade cut?

Make sure your BMW does use an EWS key, not a CAS key. EWS keys can be programmed with an AK90+ programmer lots of videos on KZbin show the process. If you have a CAS key an automotive locksmith is needed.

StarSedz, I have these three questions since I have ordered an AK90 clone: 1. Can you change the VIN using AK90 or AK90+ iafter swapping EWS+DME+EGS ECUs? 2. How does one change the frequency if the aftermarket key has two frequencies? 3. When programming Lock/Unlock some videos say turn Key to "I" once or three times, others say turn to position ''II" and press three or four times....?

1. I haven't tried it so I can't comment about this 2. With a battery installed in the key, press and hold the unlock button and press the trunk button 5 times in 3 seconds to switch back and forth frequencies 3. Try turning to the first position once, if you're having issues try the other ways until it's programmed. You can reset the process by opening and closing the door

Yes that would work and skip the transponder programming. For the 2nd and 3rd key the back cover pops off and it's near the top where the ignition would read it. It is hard to open a valet key to extract the transponder

If it was sold in the European market, it will likely be a 433mhz key needed. You cannot program the ID44 chip without a programmer.

Hi Guys, I just cannot read out my EWS3 0D46J and i cannot find a solution anywhere. 0D46J seems unreadable with the cheap AliExpress AK90.... i tested two AK90 Units and i also tested two EWS3 0D46J units with those. No success at all. one MCU is scraped to the bare metal of the pins, not possible, that there still is no connection. The other EWS3 i actually even soldered directly to the wires of the adapter to the AK90, still "PIN no touch", this is actually impossible and it is driving me insane... Possible that i just received trash AK90s from china? Someone has a link to buy an AK90 which is confirmed to work with the EWS3 0D46J? Thank you so much folks

If you have the diamond styled key, the transponder is built into the remote. Only the 1st key can be used with this.

Hi, can someone please clarify something for me. So if I wanted to use an existing chip (transponder) I can only use the first flip style replacement key. But if I was to program a new transponder I could use any of the 3 upgrade replacement keys? So the question is can I upgrade a diamond style key to any of the above 3 as long as I plan on programming a new chip (transponder)? Thank you

Right, the other flip keys have their own remote inside only the first can use the OEM remote. Yes if programming a new chip any of these keys will work.

You can't transfer the blade on any of these, the blade has to be cut and yes an automotive locksmith should do it

Hello, the 3rd one has the trunk and unlock button in different places. Make sure the right buttons are being pressed when programming.

I see, are you sure the right button is pressed? The Bentley key has the lock button in the top, and the unlock in the bottom. You have to hold the bottom button, and press the top button 3 times.

Was the remote programmed in any way? If you did, there is a chance you might have a 433mhz key or a 315mhz key.

There is a part number behind your OEM diamond key. If it says LX8 FZV it's EWS. If you don't see this it will be CAS and you can also check the module location if you don't have a diamond key. If you have a 2003 or older you likely have EWS.

Yes, aftermarket keys in general do not have smart key features that an OEM key has. The remote will do just the basic lock/unlock and trunk opening
