BMW Active Grill Delete Tips (not full tutorial)

Hi everyone, this is not a full step-by-step for removing the active grill shutters on your bmw. Instead this gives you a quick rundown of what is involved and some ways to circumnavigate an issue that I ran into.
The car would not open the shutters for me in diagnostic mode, but I was able to use a small drywall saw blade to cut right through them anyway.

What prevents the flaps from rotating beyond their intended spec? Is the resistance from the next flap when closed what signals the motor to stop or is is based on something else?

did you wrap that chrome trim in between the grills ?

Is there a reason you deleted the flaps apart from exposing the bracing? Flaps help the engine reach the operating temperature faster and protects the radiator from road debris.

i removed mine because it malfunctioned and stopped opening when needed therefore causing my engine to overheat

Was your car throwing errors on the shutter before you did this? And if so, did the error just go away afterwards?

no errors before, but i have no errors now either so im happy

Did you just unplug the motor and there is no code.

Will this work on a 2019 3 series?

do you not get error light with active shutter delete

Nope! If you cut off the arms that attach from the motor to the shutters, the motor will still function as normal, just won’t have anything to open or close. The system will think the shutters are still there and not give any errors

That’s not true, did this on a 21 x5 M50i and yes you do get check engine light.

@@BeamerTime354I was about to do that thanks for sharing. Did you completely detach the motor from the grill afterwards? I believe if you did and plug the cable back in, it will function as normal.
