BMW Airhead R65 gearbox problem

may be the gears that cracked or something like that. any update on the problem? i own a 82 r65 and the second gear makes a short but destinct scratching sound when i shift up or down unless its at a lower rpm.

Yes, one of the bearings that hold a rod on which some of the gears where on in the gearbox, was completely destroyed, so the rod with the gears on it was actually tilted around 20 degrees, causing the gears not to mesh properly, causing this sound.

​​@@P1WRAPS don't know if it helps but i just got all the bearing in my gearbox replaced, it cosg me about 650€
