The triathlete of motorcycles . Bought mine new in 1999. With the help of a very good mechanic to help keep it maintained it now has 176000 miles on it. Runs like a champ. Never had a need for anything else. Rotax engine is the heart and soul of this bike.

I have had my 99 Funduro for six years in Australia. Like you I am totally impressed by all aspects of it. With 90,000k and countless off road falls mine is an indestructible war horse now rather than a show pony. Easy to ride, comfortable, unbelievably reliable and the maintenance and repairs are easy for a non mechanic like me. I read somewhere that the Funduro has been BMW's most reliable model ever. Thanks for your great video.

What great video, I just inherited one from my nephew who wasn't a fan, me being a long time and many KLR650's owner was skeptical, but I have cleaned her up, changed oil and a few other things, and am ready to ride. Glad I found this vid. Give me hope for off road!

Awesome to hear. I think you'll find it's a pretty sweet bike. Doesn't handle as good as the KLR650 off-road though in my opinion. I use my xl600r if I'm going off-road usually. But this Funduro will certainly get it done!. Good luck and thanks for the comment

I bought mine when it was only one year old, still have it, have been doing some work on it to freshen it up. No significant modifications, pretty much a stock bike, 27,000 miles. Same year as yours, 1999, same color. I like your mods.

I bought my 1993 Funduro 2 years ago for £700 with starship mileage. After 30 years and over 50 bikes of all sizes, it is my 2nd favorite bike. It lives outdoors most of the year, yet always starts. Build quality seems amazing, the riding position is good. Living in Cornwall, this is almost the perfect bike for our tight twisting roads. Not for most of the States, but they are amazing for filtering (lane splitting.) Lots of low down power, well balanced, narrow and people notice the thump of the exhaust note. Perhaps one of the great bike bargains of all time.

Good review. I have the a '94, 44,000 miles still going strong. If your rectifier ever goes again I recommend upgrading git to the one form the f650gs as it can handle higher voltages, I did it on mine and now the voltage is rock solid at 14.5v.

I have a 2000 Funduro (it is possibly for sale by the way) When I bought it, it had offroad tyres, I reckoned I wouldn't be using it offroad so have recently replaced them with road tyres. Makes a world of difference if you commute. I was looking to buy a KTM 390 but my old 2000 Funduro does the same job and since she is old I can adjust her a bit. A fun and confidence building bike. Maybe a bit dull because it does everything you expect it to do. Sets off swiftly (I think it beats my Bandit 12) but doesn't go much over a ton. An ideal bike for a beginner or returner (or someone like me that hates riding a 1200 in heavy traffic)

Bought my 99 Funduro for 2k 3 maybe 4 years ago with 12k on it. It now has 38k only issues where a broken sprag clutch (it engages the starter) and regular rectifier which has gone bad at about the 15k mark twice, oddly enough the stock BMW part was no better than a generic chinese one for $15. This bike took me back and forth across the country 10k miles from upstate NY flawlessly (all except for a flat tire) I love it for that. Ergonomically very comfortable, fine off road, and good on the street. This motor is the same as the one in a bombardier ds650, so you could order parts for that at fraction of the bmw price. I have the same sleeping bag, awesome system and can't beat it for the price. I'm in the finger lakes, contact me if you want to ride.
@NoNonsenseKnowHow

Awesome to hear you've had a similar experience with the f650! And that's cool you have the same sleeping bag! LOL. Yeah that would be cool. Or hit me up if you ever in the Philly area and will ride. I recently picked up a 2009 f800gs. And I've been riding this bike more than anything. I actually put my F650 up for sale for $2,900. Which I doubt I'll get, but I'm torn on selling it to since it's been so reliable to me and I have so many memories on it
@WellRoundedWoodsman
@WellRoundedWoodsman 5 жыл бұрын
After selling my 98 F650, I've owned a R100GS Paris Dakar, R80G/S, and two early gen R1150GS'. I made many memories and did some amazing trips with them all. All have had every high end touring and off road upgrade known to man. They're all great bikes, but I've sold them all and have been lucky enough to buy back my original F650 after over 8 years. It's a TAT vet, done nearly 35k miles and is just a tank. I've been riding over a decade and I still went back to this as my single go-to motorcycle. Yeah there are faster bikes, yeah there are are more reliable bikes, but these are still (somehow) hidden gems. I'd say they're the jeep TJ of big bore singles.

Hi,Nice video, you are right this bike is great and cheap, 1200 pounds in Uk. I bought one two years ago with 35000 km and it has 62000 km today, did my all maintenance myself, cheap spares, easy and simple to work on and very comfortable to ride. I modified the VR that comes under the seat and moved it by the air intake, made a bracket for that, they overheat under the seat, you had the issue I think. thanks for the video and great choice. Gustavo Bongioanni good to hear you're enjoying this great little motorcycle as much as me! And yes you're correct I did have a problem with the regulator overheating. I ride one of these. I ride it miles and miles along with my mates who ride with me on 20-year-old bandits (which are also indestructible). Love the envious looks we get from people on 10 grand bikes who stay in hotels when we're parked up next to them with all our camping gear and stash of beer riding similarly long distances on our 'pieces of shit'. You can't wash an electronic injector system out in a hotel sink, or fix a fly by wire throttle with bailing string.

The last trip was 13000km, 18 countries. I tuned it to 57hp / 61nm, and it gets good mileage. I make alu skidplates for these bikes btw, send me a pm if you're interested.

My 2018 Indian Scout spends as much time in the shop for warranty work as it does at my house or on the road. I’ve been looking for a bike that doesn’t stress me out and I can ride where I want to go, that doesn’t require 91 octane gas, and won’t throw engine codes every other day. I live in Colorado, so I’m wondering if the carb needs to be re jetted for elevation and how hard it is to get parts for?

@NoNonsenseKnowHow

I agree with you that the bike doesn't sound too "cool"! But believe me she makes up for it in many other areas. Plus as you get older you're going to want a quieter bike. I'm starting to get to that point. Exhaust on it is made by Staintune. I don't know much about the company but I ran into it on eBay and purchased it. I think it was around 200 Maybe? It mounted right up no problems and is an awesome exhaust
@NoNonsenseKnowHow
@NoNonsenseKnowHow 5 жыл бұрын
Let me know what you end up with. There are not a lot of muffler options for this bike that's for sure. After looking it up, it seems that they are a handcrafted exhaust made in Australia. I guess I lucked out finding mine! Those Australians make some Top Notch stuff!
@MegaSnuffie
@MegaSnuffie 5 жыл бұрын
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow Thanks for your reply! I guess you hit the jackpot with the exhaust costing 200 bucks. I've found a couple of them over here in the Netherlands costing about €1000, and that is nearly half of what these bikes cost. So I'll keep my eye out to find some cheaper ones or a completely different exhaust. But I guess I have to get the bike first before worrying too much about the exhaust haha.
