Custom Corner: this is a terrific video that is helpful in so many ways. Of course, the beauty of your painting is displayed and encouraging. The crystal clear video images highlight your efforts, but also provide reference material for viewers. For example, one specific image helped me understand how an original part is formed. This is a specific benefit because I'm hunting down engine oil leaks on a 1988 K bike engine. There's also very helpful benefit derived from your notes related to applications for small amounts of Drei bond and oil and torque specifications during re-assembly. Thank you very much for investing your time to produce and share a valuable resource.

Great job, you haven't been saving on cost, BMW has no cheap parts.

This build has bankrupted me twice haha. Parts aren't cheap indeed, but you'll know that from the start and I want to have it a 100% when finished

Did you have to get the block sand blasted prior to painting? And if so, did you leave all the internals intact? Thanks.

Various brushes on a drill, scotch brite and a lot of elbow crease! In the R100 engine rebuild video I'll go deeper into the cleaning of an engine and more tips & tricks

do you use 2 different color brands? once the cerakote h 190 and for the motor selamix DTM. is that right? how many liters of paint did you use approx.? excellent work!!
@corner.custom10 ай бұрын
Yes correct, a mix of Cerakote and 2k paint (selamix). A little goes a long way to be honest. I don't exactly know anymore how much I used for the engine, but I believe it wasn't more than 0,75L all mixed up

Nice. I would have also done the raw metal look on the left cover (crank cover). Those straight channels are raw aluminium on the valve cover, why not for the opposite side?
@corner.custom7 ай бұрын
I think that's just an matter of taste. Maybe on the new build I'll go for that look
@petebuttons2107 ай бұрын
@@corner.custom Agreed it is a matter of taste. Looking forward to seeing the complete bike.

This is my second time watching this video, last time was a year ago, great work. Now that I got into car and motorcycle a bit more I just want to ask, during the engine rebuild process, after you strip it down, did you have the engine block machined and resurfaced? Thanks!
@corner.custom Жыл бұрын
Great seeing you come back to the channel! I didn't took out the internals of the engine, but did change the clutch. This was a low mileage bike so wasn't necessary to go that route
@benjamincai156 Жыл бұрын
@@corner.custom thanks for the reply! I have a 75,000 mileage RT sitting in my garage and not sure if that’s considered “high” or not😅 I’m also wondering if I should have the bike start before I strip everything down
@corner.custom Жыл бұрын
@@benjamincai156 They can handle the mileage pretty good, but that's also dependant on the maintanence. I would definitely start the bike before stripping it down. Then you know how the bike runs and it will give you also a good insight on the parts you'll probably need to replace to get in the right condition

what painting process are you using on the engine and tranny? is that powder coat? do you use the same process on the engine covers?
@corner.custom Жыл бұрын
The paint I've used is a 2K paint called Selamix direct to metal. Work perfectly!

Hey, leuke video's man! Welke verf gebruik je om motorblokken te spuiten?
@corner.custom2 жыл бұрын
Bedankt, mooi om te horen 👍🏼 De verf die ik gebruik is een 2k verf van Selamix met 10% glans. Heet DTM, direct to metal

Forgive the silly question: is this paint equivalent to powder coating, in terms of protection, or is it better? And would you recommend doing the same for the frame?
@corner.custom9 ай бұрын
Not a silly questions at all man, no worries. Everything has it's pro's and con's. If you want to powder coat the engine itself it will need a full strip down and even then I'm in doubt if it would hold up to the temperatures. I like to use paint to keep the underlying structure of the metal. I did painted a frame with this paint and was very satisfied with the result!
