Engine reliability is irrelevant when the electronics are the weak link. My 2024 R12 made it to 2334 miles before it totally shut down and would only start for 1 second before dying again. Then no response to the power button for hours before it started powering back up on it's own. Dealership has it now.

I had the first model R9T from 2014-2018 and put 14,000 miles on it until it was totaled by a VW Beetle. I changed the handlebars to narrower bars from a Triumph Street Triple, modified the bar ends to maintain the original caps and added bar end mirrors, a bikini fairing, rearsets, and a tail hugger. I had the wheels converted to tubeless by Woody's. The battery as supplied by BMW is under powered and that is the reason for the short life. Aftermarket batteries have higher (correct) amperage and fit after removing the plastic filler that is factory installed to allow for the cheaper battery that comes installed. The battery cannot be charged or maintained through the BMW powerlet socket unless you use their special charger $$$. I just installed a connector directly to the battery and used my regular maintainer. When I got the bike, the speedometer read about 20% high but that was solved after I had to have the ECU reflashed after installing heated handgrips. For touring, I added a tankbag (which faded immediately) and the custom fitted tailbag. I had planned to install a mud guard as installed on the R1200GS,but never got around to it. There were recalls on the bike for defective handgrip switches, and directional signal spacing. I had a rear seal go out under warranty. Overall, it was an excellent bike and I would consider buying another. Biggest complaint- The bungee cord attached to my wallet by the dealer.

Ive done a few long trips and its great. One was 4,000 km and another 3,000 km. The tank has 300 km range which is handy. The suspension, with some patience, can be adjusted to work well. It took me 2 weeks of trial and error to set my suspension properly. The seat is not great, but Ive had worse. Easily fixed. You can stretch your legs out on the cylinder heads when if they get cramped. And the engine sounds like a WW2 fighter plane. Travel light, get on it and go for it.

@chadkline42683 жыл бұрын
No, not in my experience. Boxers should be very smooth. Maybe try another mechanic. I used to be a Bmw mechanic 40 years ago :) and we always did a test ride after every service, and I'd guess this is still standard practice to ensure customer satisfaction. Did you ask them to test ride it? If they did, what was their opinion?
@chadkline42683 жыл бұрын
Does it sound good? If it is vibrating so bad, there is probably something you can hear that may provide a clue. The engine should sound symmetrical. Do both sides of the engine sound the same? Do the wheels spin true?
@deebugs3 жыл бұрын
It sounds fine, I have had the bike shipped to BMW under warranty for this issue. They say, nothing wrong with it. Sadly, I will probably sell the bike!. If you search on line, there are many riders suffering from this issue.
@chadkline42683 жыл бұрын
@@deebugs well, if it so bad, there is a cause, and the cause should be equally as noticeable as the effect. A truly bad vibration should be traceable. Cause and effect. Is the engine shaking bad? You didn't even say what is shaking. You know, it is 1100cc, 550cc in each cylinder. That is HUGE. Of course it is going to shake at low RPMs. It's like a series of little bombs (to the left, then to the right). But at higher RPMs, they should balance each other and cancel each other out.
@chadkline42683 жыл бұрын
@@deebugs I wouldn't expect it to be smooth under 4-5000 RPMs. I wouldn't even ride it below that. Too much stress on the engine. Its not a Japanese bike. Boxers get smoother at higher RPMs.
