Best instructions I've seen on BMW interior rear view mirror replacement. I sourced my mirror used from ebay BMW 328i 2008 E90 sedan. It's hit or miss though on used parts. But at $35-50 you can take a few risks.

Just replaced the same mirror shown (auto dim and emergency phone) with newer one that had built in compass and home-link. It is working! Needed to file the nubs off the base of the replacement to get it to fit the mount. The compass had to be reset by driving around and I used a hand garage opener to program the home-link. This was on a 2004 330XI.

I accidentally hit my mirror when changing my shirt and it came off. I knew id didn’t break it. I was so confused how to get it back on. Thanks for the help I got it back on easily. I might consider replacing it with a better one that i know how to remove it now.

Thank you so much for this video. It was so tricky to get the mirror back on the little mount. for my 2007 bmw 328i, I had to go the opposite direction (counterclockwise) to put it back on. so basically attach it at an angle from the left side, then turn it counterclockwise.

Great presentation! I didn’t realize how simple this was. I went to the junkyard and after all the years of rummaging found a good rear view mirror with the seldom seen compass. I installed it in about 20 minutes and she’s good to go! 😎🇩🇪🚙

Thank you, same as 2010 X3. I broke a window once pulling the mirror, mechanic explained the glass is 2 ply and the more brittle one is on the inside or something.

i ask my local garages if they could refit my mirror [with no luck] before seeing this video, took me 3 attempts and 3 minutes max to do it myself. mines a bmw 520. just have to get it level with the windscreen and edge it back on

Quoted 600 for a new mirror from the bmw dealer. Found one for 60 used on ebay and installed it with your help. Works perfect thanks again man.

Excellent video and most helpful indeed. MGZT saloon is the BMW make and mirror identical to your description so fairly straightforward to refit using a high quality resin bond adhesive for the metal bit. Thanks for this

Ok, so my mirror isn’t broken or like messed up in anyway. Just the thing it connects to isn’t gripping the mirror enough to keep it in place. So when I go over bumps, it kinda bounces up or down. Any solution to this? Or possibly a video you’ve made on this issue? It’s not something I need to replace I hope, I’m just hoping there something I can do to fix it without completely buying a new rearview lol or a rear view mount. That would be even worse aha

There should be a pressure clip that ultimately clamps down the mirror to the glass mounted portion. Make sure it's not broken or jammed up. It's a very simple mechanism so it should be fairly obvious if it's broken. I know you don't want a new mirror but it's not super expensive to get a used one on eBay

Should be the same. You can use a small thin flat head screwdriver if you don't have a pick

Can you comment on what the part number for the replacement mirror lens and your mirror part. Link is where? Is yours an SOS with Clown Nose or with A B C Homelink? Are they exchangeable if you know, with one another. Mine is the triangle with narrow crown vs an oval. Auto dimming and i believe similar to what you had initially? I’m assuming you replaced like mirror or leaky one. Appreciate your video.

I recommend replacing the electrochromatic mirror for one with manual dim. Manual dim for the mirror is a better idea than putting in another EC mirror that will fail later. This part still has the light sensor for automatic headlights and works with the rain sensor for automatic wipers. Part number is 51169218046. Don't sweat losing the SOS button since the cell spectrum the E46 used has been disbanded. Pressing the button now causes a radio error that can only be resolved by pulling fuse 39. Don't press it.

It's a simple locking clip, go to the 1:50 mark, a small flathead screwdriver should do the trick. Just be patient and walk it out slowly

Lefteris7 it seems you’re pressing on the top near the wires. Pushing in, I hear a click on the vid . But I don’t see any push click there , nor on the sides. Again I feel kinda silly but I can’t tell where the release is. I’ll keep messing with it thanks

There are clips on two opposing sides. Press in from both directions and it will release. If you can't make it work, shift 90 degrees and try again.

I have never heard of a Rear View Mirror that goes bad before. Did BMW designed it poorly on purpose to make money on parts? If so, I would never buy a BMW, that's something an American car manufacturer would do. That's why I buy Only Japanese.

Bruce Truong BMW doesn't make the mirror it's made by Magna Donnelly who supplies the mirror to a large majority of OEM's. There is a fluid that is between the two pieces of glass that functions as autodim that can possibly fail
