to change out just the Xfer case bushing- di you need to drop the case too?

thanks for the posted keep coming. I got a stupid question 03 x5 3.0...the front differential took a went. The suv right now won't go forward or reverse. I can feel the front differential is holding it..I can't get the nuts on the drive shaft out...can I cut off the front driveshaft so I can move the car..since the front differential ain't good. Do I need to look at other things in the car that could have went bad cuz of this issue

The black pipe that is on top of the TC, does that attach to anything or does it hang free?

It a breather hose, it hang free

Can somebody confirm if its normal having the VTG supply servomotor error code and another one and its already 1 year and my 2009 bmw x5 3.0si its only running to the front super slow and to the back goes little more fast, somebody with more experience do i need to confirm if the actuator its bad inside the plastic gears or will be the complete transfer case unit ???

You don’t need to remove the exhaust. Just the remove the bracket. Saves a lot time, in case you don’t work as fast as these guys.

Kjeld Molvig how would you remove the shafts if you don't remove the exhaust to get to the heat sheild off too?! And also how would you get the transfer case out with out the space freed up!?

Dominique Hunt It can be done. I bought a rebuilt TC for my X3 from Stephen at www.tcbmwx5.com . He said he could install it in 3 hours for $300. I was shocked. I asked him how. He said you don’t need to remove the exhaust. Just unfasten a few hangers, then you can r/r the TC. He had my car ready in about 2 1/2 hours. Never had to mess with fragile exhaust bolts, which can become a very expensive project.

My ATC 450 went out. I just got a replacement and can't seem to get it onto the transmission. Any suggestions would help. Could it me the wrong ATC450?

E83 needs ATC400

Its a general unit: trans case, like any mechanical part or sensor. Its not a computer unto itself. Its plug and play people.

I just left the shop 2,900 for my transfer case replacement, but it's a bmw part!! Is that a decent/ good price??

What year is your bmw. Thats ridiculous , I had a shop do mine for $400.. I bought the oem used part with only 10k miles on it for $300. I only wasted $700

A friend of mine got his front diff shattered and damage his engine X3. I don't know the reason. It was serviced regularly in BMW dealership and as soon as it went out of warranty (about a year later) he had this major damage.
