I just replaced my cv boot on driver side everything was fine now my car is sitting half of inch higher on the driver side. Could it be I tighten my bolts with out putting pressure on driver side and now everything is out of specs?
@motorcarnut14 күн бұрын
If you did it the way in the video I'd say no. Check your work and try putting level weight on the suspension then tighten the bolt. Normally that won't cause your problem something binding will.

Alright you can make this two hour job or you can make this four hour job if you do what I did. I did this job in my garage on jack. I made mistake when I was done I tighten bolts without putting pressure on the bottom of the knuckle. My suspension was off by half of the inch maybe little more. I had to take wheel off loosen bolts jack up suspension tighten the bolts button up all shield get wheel back on take car for drive give it couple hard brakes just to make sure suspension gets settled back in place. After all of this hight was almost identical. Best of luck I hope this helps someone. As much as this video helped me. Good luck be safe when working on jack stands 👍🏻

What is the torque spec for putting the axle shaft bolt back in place? Along with the control arm bolt that you removed?

I’m not at the shop now and don’t remember but I’m sure you can find it online.

@@motorcarnut turns out it was the big plastic cover that wasn’t screwed on all the way.. by doing this job I’ve noticed the previous owner had someone cut through the chassis to fix something from the engine instead of taking out the engine and doing it the right way…. I Will be selling the car soon.

Thanks, was looking for this for ages, it was very helpful. I need to change the seals in the supporting bracket. Have you got another advice about how you put in the shaft seal? Do you happen to know the torque spec on refitting?
@motorcarnut8 ай бұрын
Glad it helped, I don’t have the specs off hand , just look them up online. You need a seal puller if you can’t get it out and tap the new one in evenly not to distort the seal and then have it to leak.

I got some funny knocking sound from underneath my x3 when accelerating at low speed. Usually last like 1 seconds and happens more often when turn and accelerate. I replaced my front drive shaft and center support bearing not long time ago and. So, I am assuming it’s the CV joint here. Can I ask what do you think about it here? Before I go order the parts?
@motorcarnut2 жыл бұрын
The driveshaft and center support bearing wouldn’t make noise while turning. It’s the cv joints especially if they are leaking grease.

Hi, i have 270 000 km and vibration noise for few seconds , when the car is staying and I am trying to move away , but not always, could it be that the right shat is having vibration because of some bearing damage, no noise when driving available.

Can be, also something in the steering and suspension can be loose. Make sure tires are wearing evenly as well.

Love your channel!!! Any tips on installing the new axle? What should you tap on to make sure it’s seated properly at the differential and the wheel? Thanks!
@motorcarnut Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Just grab the end near the wheel after you slip the other end in the differential and yank it towards the diff and it should just slide in. The other end has no shaft and is held in with the axle bolt. Remember that bolt has to have a lot of torque so when the wheel is on the ground torque the bolt to 155 ft lbs or else you can destroy the axle and hub from coming loose and stripping it.
