Charly Zimermann was such a great Pilot and had such a great helicopter! It's amazing that he had to test this machine step by step to finf out what he could do and what not (almost nothing). To be one of the first pilots testing the limits of helicopter needs some great skills combined with braveness.

Saw Captain Zimmerman in 1987 at Ramstein AFB. Awesome is an overused but completely accurate description of his performance. Off the ramp BO 105 with special cowlings. Not special oil system or pressurized fuel system. Only a very capable helicopter and his enormous testicles.

Well... I'm helicopter mechanic at this thing during my BW time. Although this is long time ago, I can tell you the following facts about this Helicopter type BO105M: It has two connected fuel tanks with 6 electric pumps and two mechanical pump at the engines (two Allison C20B). The oil system is closed! So it has always enough fuel even through loops or rolling. And oil is always under pressure.

Among the rest, the BO 105 has been also developed as an aerobatics helicopter and also has a licensing as such.

Amerggio1968 No it was developed as a small Utility Helicopter for SAR and Police. They built it very agile to have a unique product because other manufacturers had any type of helicopter, aber none with such a good performance. It was a great reason to buy it

Basically a stock 105 that is probably well maintained and I imagine they removed some of the un-necessary equipment to make it lighter but really any BO-105 with the right loadout could do most of this granted the pilot is up to it.

It's the hingeless, bearing-less rigid rotor system that allows these acrobatics to be performed ... Fibreglass blades were supposed to be indefinite life until one broke, then the whole fleet worldwide were grounded until new blades were designed and manufactured ... I think at least one year grounded ..

When he did that "English Bunt" I peed in my pants. I had a friend who tried a loop in a 269 Hughes. he made a hole in an asphalt runway. That BO-105 is infuckincredible. Why don't we see more of them?

The BO 105 can apply a little bit negative pitch but not enough to hover inverted. I wonder when the first non-RC heli is capable of this :) RC helis are set up to have same positive as negative pitch.

@@buskutscher81 Das war er meines Wissens nicht, er gehörte zum HFg.Reg. 16 in Celle. Ich war übrigens in der Zeit (1985-1989) in Fritzlar beim HFg.-Rgt.36 in Lfz.T.Abt. (Wartung) tätig! Und da wäre er mir vermutlich früher oder später über den Weg gelaufen. Ich habe ihn im Frühjahr 1986 in Faßberg beim üben gesehen (neben dem ganzen Fliegerhorst :D).
