I'm a Coast Guard veteran and now live in northwest Montana, so I LOVE these videos. First, because I love some rough water and rescue opportunities (I was stationed on the Oregon coast for a time), and second, because this place (the Haulover Inlet) is so far removed from where I am now that it's like an escape just watching life there. These videos are of exceptional quality and very interesting to watch. Thanks!

Congrats to fire rescue on being the only people who know what to do. Go slow, let the bow rise and fall with the waves rather than nose diving or slamming through them. No damage, complete control.
@CountryBoyMakinNoise4 жыл бұрын
The dude in the SeaVee knew what he was doing. Put the nose of the boat up out of the water let the hull ride deep and just cruise. That’s how you do it on lakes anyways. But I would imagine the principle works the same here so the bow doesn’t go under.
@paratrooper73404 жыл бұрын
Not convinced you're right. My experience coming in and going out to Block Island in big waves says to get on top of the waves and stay there no matter how hard the wind is pushing and building waves. Of course I could be wrong but I've had some experience at the Columbia River Gorge and I'd say the same thing for there and watching these videos tells me that the slow guys are usually the ones filling their boats with water. The wave length here is very short, the waves are big and any boat going slow is bound to go over one wave and nose dive into the next wall of water. Now if you have a powerful boat and you have experience you should be able to time your movement from one top to the next and that's pretty obvious watching these captan's doing their thing.

@Sheila Morrison their rib should of been on the back of a wave not letting the waves go past them. If one broke on them as it came past it could flooded the engine. They have enough power to get on the back of a wave and ride it in.
