Departing Trenton at Trent Port Marina and cruising north. Although we had planned to get a bit farther along, the building winds and gusts led to a change of plans.
This video is part of our glorious 5-1/2 week long cruise that takes us from Lake Simcoe, through dozens of locks and right down to 'Mile Zero' of the Trent Severn Waterway. From there, we headed east to Kingston and onto the Rideau Canal for first ever visit there by water! For a look at the entire adventure, please check out the full Playlist here: • Summer 2022 Cruise
Location is at Lock #3, Glen Miller (goo.gl/maps/U4pwPBsRKRwkBv446) along Ontario, Canada's lovely 240 mile/386 km Trent Severn Waterway.

I second what Mr. Van Winkle had to say! My wife and I met at a labor day weekend dock party so boats and boating have been part of our life together from the very beginning. On an unrelated topic, have you had to reseal your windshield mounting screws/bolts on the 330 or 370? Mine are and my marina said there may be thru-bolts at the beginning and end of each windshield section with machine screws in between. They said if this is the case we would need to disassemble the cabin ceiling panels to access the nuts underneath and each section would need to be lifted and blocked in order to reseal the thru-bolts properly. I'm asking around to make sure I know what I'm getting myself into before I attempt this project on my own.
@BoatingWithBoogaboo
@BoatingWithBoogaboo Жыл бұрын
Luckily, I've never had to do that on either boat, but we did have to do something similar on the 330 Dancer. When we bought that boat, I discovered that water was coming in where the railing stanchions attached to the deck on the starboard side. As they were through bolted, getting to the nuts on the inside was a real b**ch and required removing most of the cabinetry on the starboard side=, as well as across the bow portion above the forward berth. No, I didn't make a video on that project as I was not in a happy mood that day, to say the least ;-) The water was coming in as a result of what appeared to be the railing bent inward on that side (more than likely due to coming into contact with a dock pile, etc.). The bases of two of the stanchions were slightly bent over, allowing water to infiltrate into the cabin. The main reason for my frustration that day was because someone had attempted to 'fix' the problem by using silicone - which would have come loose shortly after!! I can't say it enough, but silicone should NEVER be used on repairs like this, but folks keep doing it and I keep fixing their problems :--( Before you ask; Sikaflx or quality 3M sealer. NEVER silicone.
@Motorvader
@Motorvader Жыл бұрын
@@BoatingWithBoogaboo Silicone was banned from my boats since I sold my first boat in 1988. The stuff has no place in the marine environment (and very few places outside of it). My preference is 3M 4000 UV above the waterline and 3M 5200 below. I've heard good things about Sikaflex 291. My stanchions are leaking as well and I've decided to let my marina handle that project. They're doing the 4 on either side of the cabin (2 of which are leaking on either side of the v-berth) and I plan to circle back later to do the 2 in the anchor locker and the 2 in the engine room myself (easy peasey lemon squeezee as you say). Never ending projects!

He's right here with me now, so I'll be sure to say hi 😸. As for your wanting to take your own kitty cat along with you aboard the boat, I can only say that having my Little Tiny with us on Boogaboo is an absolute joy and we couldn't imagine not having him with us! That said, after 40 years of marriage and ten cats of our own in that time, Tiny would have been only one of two with the personality to go with the boating lifestyle. Anchor Girl and I have talked about that many times and came to the conclusion that we're very fortunate that he's so comfortable on the boat, whether sitting at a lock somewhere, or cruising along with those two noisy Mercruisers roaring in the background, he fits right in. Hopefully, if your entire crew are willing to give it a try that your own furry friend will be able to fit in as well as Tiny has. In case your first mate needs a little nudge, have a watch here - but no tears! kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5vTfYdjisyXa9k

I'm loving these new videos! Nice trip to get back into the Trent Severn system. I'm thinking a project for winter would be a bottle opener somewhere so you can open the Corona and Smirnoff with one hand while videoing with the other. Just sayin' Cheers!

I got one better - switched to regular Corona, as finding the Light version in these parts became really hit and miss since last summer. Also moved to cans, as they will be taking up a lot less room on the boat and they're easy to dispose of than hauling around clunky bottles. Yes, that means we're gonna have to have a good supply of ice and limes, but that's okay, as I'm consuming a lot fewer of the stronger 'Extras', so that's a good thing I suppose. . .

That probably works for you, but I'm gonna guess that you don't do much traveling to other marinas or go through locks. If so, you'd be well aware that your preferred, or most familiar with docking arrangements aren't always gonna work in many scenarios. . .

This is a really pleasant video to watch! So I have a question, have you considered putting a bow thruster in the front? My last boat didn't have one and the boat we have now does. I won't ever have another one without it. I run it often for close quarters, easy to use and surprisingly quick response. Now Sleipner even has variable speed ones and they can hold you to the docks for one person can easily operate a boat like ours and yours. Anyway, just curious about your thoughts on it. That's all.

Take a look, there are other videos but I'll just post the one. I think adding one or both ends would make your tighter quarters boating more enjoyable. And.... I have no connection with any thruster company, just providing an example. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqSXdZpprdCAbZo

No, never had a thruster and our current 370 handles very nicely, even in windy conditions - and believe me, I had lots of that this past summer when s=cruising through the locks! Happily, she goes right where I point her and don't want thrusters at all. But thanks for the suggestion. . .

@@BoatingWithBoogaboo Oh I absolutely have! 😅 i used to be right there with you until I heard someone explain it to me at the docks in Charlivoix mi; Me: (watching some 40-50 footers come in from lake michigan) Man these guys with these bow thrusters on these bigger boats are obnoxious. Why don't they just learn how to properly drive their boats? Guy: do you use a map? Me: No I have a gps now. But yeah I CAN use a map. Guy: bow thrusters are just like those gps. It doesn't mean you don't know how to do something it just a tool to make your life a little stress free. My next boat had one and Ill never not now. You don't always have to use them but in places like those locks it would lower both of your blood pressures. Not saying you need one, just wondering if you'd ever thought about having one.
