Welcome to my back yard on the CT River. I spend most of my Summers driving my boat starting an hour North of where you filmed this all the way to the Ocean. I trailer my boat so I get to experience all the lakes and rivers New England has to offer. I hope you come back again to experience more of what this location has to offer along with it's stunning beauty both on the water and off the water.

Great review (as usual) maybe to improve pack a decent flag. Great boat for Perth because there is nowhere to go. You just go out and come back. I don't like inboards too many holes in the hull to leak. Aussie classification, how many beer cans can be stored on board. That fridge under the helm, get a few cartons in there.
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
Oh I was happy with that flag Pete haha! You have space for multiple slabs in that storage lazarette under the floow and I reckon a whole slab would pack into the fridge/freezer below allowing you to re-stock the top fridges and the under seak eski on the aft deck so nobody will be going thirsty on this boat.

Really enjoy your channel. I know you tend to review bigger boats worth big $$ but it would nice show a few bow riders for middle class families especially since they are now $150k AUD. Not that cheap imo anymore. Loved the Sydney boat show chat about deals and value buys.

Absolutely I can. I've got heaps of experience with the smaller boats so happy to film more. I just keep getting asked to do the bigger and faster stuff so haven't had as many opportunities to film boats for the mass market yet. I'll try to make this happen at some point.

So I didn't have full instrumentation available to read that out for you but he way I see it is as follows. A) don't compare with diesel shafts because yes they will be much more B) I think the idea is for the busy guys who want to do 20 - 50M runs at a healthy speed to maximise their time enjoying a location. If you are doing long distance cruising then this is not the boat for you. But for high speed mid distance day boating and long weekends this is a super valuable asset to a lot of people I think. Also not having to lift the thing for engine service will be beneficial to a lot of people and yes I agree this design is simply beautiful and it won't go out of fashion.
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
So yes you can see the REV's on the motor go down when the gear changes and the motor is doing less work. It's very interesting technology and I trust Mercury to get this right. I remember after the crash in 08 they were the only manufacturer who doubled down on research and technology spending and I think we are benefiting from that investment now.
@DDekkon
@DDekkon Жыл бұрын
They are actually quite fuel efficient (considering their size) due to the use of oxygen sensors. The engine itself is a cool idea and designed to push the larger boats around, but the difficulty to gain access for troubleshooting/maintenance is the major pitfall of these engines. I think with all their innovation, Mercury Marine could have done a much better job in that department. A small hood that flips up to expose an oil filter is a marketing gimmick. Mercury needs to do a better job than making engine cowlings that need to be removed with a forklift, as this is just not a practical way to do things. Mercury Marine could learn a lot from Yamaha in making their products more maintenance friendly.

The use of 110v power requires thicker cabling than 240v power. What we want from the supply is the equivalent energy in watts. Since watts is created from voltage x amperage and we have half the voltage in 110v, the amperage for equivalent power or watts needs to be double. Because we have to transport more power along the wiring, that wiring needs to increase in thickness. So to light up say a microwave oven with 2880 watts on 240v we need 14 gauge wire. To transport the same energy on 110v supply, we need thicker and heavier 10 gauge wire. This is why overhead power cables out in your street can carry many thousands of volts on what appears to be thinner cable. Probably important to say wire thickness of increasing gauge has a lesser number.
@salty-pete

Really like your videos, but please take this a constructive criticism. The camera work is poor in relation to your descriptions. The viewer needs to see what exactly you're looking at, I think production value would be better if you held the camera, instead of being on camera. It's frustrating to hear your description of features and not actually see them. "We will have to cut to a shot of that"...rarely happens. Thanks for reading, just trying to help.
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
Point taken. At this point in time I don't have a cameraman or crew which is why you see me directing the camera as i'm presenting to you guys. When I say i'm going to cut to a shot it's because I can see the cameraman isn't capturing it while i'm talking and I go and film it at the end of the presentation. What often happens however is we run out of time for whatever reason and I'm not always able to get the final shots after i've finished presenting. I know you guys are here to see the boat and not me so maybe i'll just grab the camera off whoever is filming and show you that way in future.

Its concerning to see a complete disregard for the effect that the wash from the high speed has on the river banks. 20-30 miles travelled in 1/2hr? It needs to be a very powerful hydrofoil to perform like that.
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
So it would actually make annoying wash at more of a mid range speed which is why you saw me accelerate up to higher speeds because the wash flattens out at the higher speeds. But yes at times during the making of my videos there is going to be some negative impacts to the environment. I do try to minimise this but it's literally impossible to eliminate it all together unfortunately.
