I like that his humor was never mean. A lot of it was based on sympathy for ordinary people in funny situations like this.
@NewYorkActingCoach19 күн бұрын
Well I've no wish to sound mean, but - seriously - this man shows no sympathy for the ape. Animals have feelings, and the distress he - one can only hope it was a male, right - must have felt, alone on West 34th street on a dark night, desperately trying to escape from some mob of humans (who to this day loiter around 5th avenue), is barely hinted at by the witness, whose testimony the audience itself of laughs at. We can only hope that some of the audience was crying. J.

One man. One phone handset. Comic genius... 💕

When he first started, comedy was just people being silly; he changed all that. I genuinely thought that professor Proton was a real kids tv show.

One time, as an actor, we were doing a tech rehearsal for a play. And while the lights were off, I started doing this bit. I got the lead actress laughing like mad before the stage lights came back up.

R.I.P. Bob Newhart. Your comedic genius will live on long after your final day of July 18, 2024. May your children and grandchildren be comforted in your loss, knowing how much laughter and joy you brought into the world.

Bob Newhart was the greatest. I first heard this routine way back when, and several times since, and it still works for me. He was just terrific!

How can one man calmly, with a slight hesitation in his voice, maintaining a serious non emotional demeanor turn everyday or common things into such classic humor. We see these things all the time but we don’t “look” at them. Bob looked and saw the illogical and the “what if “factor and turned them into comedic gold. Nothing nasty, insulting, degrading, no foul language, no picking on things to hurt people’s feelings or make them uncomfortable no political or special groups rants. Just humor. Gentle humor that almost comes out as a whisper and then has us laughing hysterically No matter how many times we heard him do these routines, we could ever look at things objects or situations the same way again. What a great legacy to be remembered. We will always miss you, Bob.

No profanity or ridicule just clean funny and talented humor something that’s lacking today and the reason comics and night shows are losing viewership.

@@timdowney6721 Well, I think the eyewitnesses, the news, and the damage to the property might help him out there. Still, a drug test or two might be prudent. If only to show the claims adjusters at whomever they get their insurance from that they weren't kidding on this one.

Similar to George Carlin, Bob Newhart at the amazing gift of taking the most simplest and obvious situations and finding the humor. He will be greatly missed.

Check Shelley Berman and his early comedy albums. I might be wrong but I think he's the first comedian to release records. He did a lot of phone comedy. His bit with a hungover guy calling his buddy asking what happened at the party the night before is hysterical.

@@stevengabbard930 I know we had some of his albums, too. Don't recall the phone humor. Of course we also had lots of Bill Crosby albums...
