Started painting yet? It's great especially if you don't sweat it. Buy some cheap level canvases in a pack at Michaels and don't worry if you mess up or its not as gorgeous as Bob's. Practice, practice, practice. Don't give up. Take your time. I take an average 2-3 hours to finish a painting, and sometimes I go back and and a little more a day later. There's no time limit.

23 yrs after i saw my first bob ross show i started painting after i discovered him again on netflix. After 2 dozen paintings im getting pretty decent. Tip for you newbies, you can buy MDF 2x4' panels at home depot, cut them, paint them white and use them to practice on cheaply. One 2x4 sheet is about $4, cut them any size you want. Not as good as a canvas mind you, specially for a wet on wet painter but you can practice trees, mountains and do some neat stuff on them cheaply.

I'm really thinking about it. My birthday is coming up soon. Maybe I'll get me a starter kit. I've watched so much of Bob I think I could teach a class, but I've never actually done any of it. I find myself looking at skies and clouds and trees and thinking, "I know how to paint that."

@neosquirrel8 жыл бұрын
Well, not really free--he did get paid by PBS through donations to stations--each local station pays to put what shows they select on, and Bob and his staff got a decent cut overall from all the stations that subscribed. There was about a dozen plus on his production team. Plus his real income came from his paint supplies and paint kits which are still sold today. I recommend picking up one if only to have all the necessary starter tools you'd need to paint rather than buying the tools and the row of paints you'd need separately which can REALLY add up. A 16 oz bottle of Bob's black gesso costs a buck an ounce. That's not cheap. Each paint in a small tube can run $8-10 apiece, and you'll need about 10-12 colors. (My advice--use store coupons or shop Amazon.)

actually, he didn't improvise while he painted. He made 3 versions of the same painting. One before the show, (for a reference) one during the show, using the pre-show one as the reference, and one after the show (for auctions or something similar)

There seems to be a shift in Bob's MO in this ep in comparison to the last. Just as between the last ep of season 1 and the first ep of season 2, where he seemed to find his comfort zone in speaking through the camera to the viewer, this ep is where suddenly the effortless manner and unselfconsciousness he's renowned for *really* arrive.
